As a hybrid mattress, the DreamCloud fulfills many of our standards for what a excellent bed should have. With eight unique layers of support and comfort, the DreamCloud uses all the right materials in its construction. Dreamcloud vs Icomfort
From the tufted cashmere cover that gives great airflow, to the gel memory foam at the uppermost comfort layer, the DreamCloud was made to promote a cooler night’s sleep. Resting below are a mixture of memory foam and latex layers, meaning this mattress contains better quality comfort materials than most other hybrid beds.

Despite the fact that it utilizes multiple memory foam layers, there’s not any hug or significant contouring to the bed. If you are looking to sink into a mattress, then move on from the DreamCloud.

A pocketed coil support core keeps you aligned all night long, especially for all you back sleepers on the market.

Construction Dreamcloud vs Icomfort

The DreamCloud features an astoundingly tall profile for a mattress at a whopping 15 inches. The eight-layer structure is broken down into foam and wrapped coil components, which work in tandem to provide the sleeper with a firm innerspring lift and plenty of comfy pressure relief.

Given all of the distinct materials at play , I am stoked to get into these layers to understand how well they interact with one another. Dreamcloud vs Icomfort

construction-1

Cover – The cover is made up of a cashmere and polyester blend for a soft texture up top. Additionally, it is quilted with memory foam, which provides the sleeper with instant relaxation.

Foam Layers – Below the cover, you will find three thin layers of foam. While these sections are soft to the touch and provide some satisfying sinkage, they also react quickly to pressure, so you won’t feel trapped in the mattress. The middle of the three layers is especially essential for the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it’s comprised of perforated latex foam. Latex in general is good at dissipating heat, so the inclusion of those tiny ventilations encourages more cooling.

Pocketed Coils – The bottom layer of foam transitions to the firmer support segment of the mattress, which is made up of a pocketed coil system. These individually wrapped springs provide the mattress excellent rebound and assist disperse motion throughout the mattress. The coils also assist in moderating temperatures as the distances between them permit steady air flow.

Foundation Layer – A thin layer of high-density polyfoam lies at the base of the mattress, with the main use of cradling the pocketed coils and providing a solid foundation for the whole mattress.

Firmness

After taking a peek at the construction of the DreamCloud, let us talk about the firmness and texture. I started off by applying mild hand pressure to the bed and instantly felt the soft foam of the quilted cover and first layers. My hands flowed into the material and I could feel some instant pressure relief. Pushing in further, I began to interact with the pocketed coils below and experienced a pleasant lift from the springs.

Now I want to let you know that people of different body shapes and types will sense firmness differently. Rather than giving only my view on the general firmness level of this mattress, I enlisted three other people to give their view too. This will give you a much better feeling of the firmness range you can see from the bed.

firmness test-1

As you can find in the graph above, the testers were pretty much in agreement about the firmness of this mattress, giving it a mean score of 7.75. Compare this to the market norm of 6.5 for medium firmness and it is apparent that this bed is pretty firm.

I personally gave the bed a 7.5 and agree with the rest of the testers that it’s definitely a good mattress. At the same time you’ll feel some slight sinking from the lavish foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils at the core will lift you from this bed and make you feel as though you’re sleeping on top of this mattress.

Pressure Map

Rather than simply explaining the feel of this DreamCloud to you, I wanted to provide a visual representation of where somebody may feel pressure points form while lying on it. To do so, I put a pressure map on top of the bed and lied on my back, side, and stomach. You can find the results on the picture below where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).

pressure map-1

Back – When on my backside, my weight was evenly dispersed throughout the mattress, so I did not feel as though I was sinking into the bed at all. The quilted cover provided quality relief at my lumbar region and the pocketed coils helped lift me from the bed and keep my spine in alignment.

Side – As you can see in the graph above, after I rolled onto my side, I started to feel pressure forming in my hips and shoulders. But, I still felt supported and the top foam layers relieved what discomfort I felt in this position.

Stomach – Shifting over to my belly, I thought that the DreamCloud did a fantastic job of lifting my hips upward and out of the mattress, which is key for stomach sleepers. I must mention that I managed to shift across these positions with relative ease.

Motion Transfer

If you intend on sharing your bed with a spouse, you’ll want to know what it will feel like if the other person crawls out of bed in the morning or tosses around at nighttime. This next test is meant to demonstrate the high level of movement that is detectable from one side of the mattress from the other. Dreamcloud vs Icomfort

To show you this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 pound steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and then quantified the disturbance it caused: the larger the lines, the bigger the disturbance.

The DreamCloud demonstrates a little bit of disturbance for the 4 inch drop, which simulates somebody tossing around and adjusting their position on the other side of the bed. While the 8 and 12 inch drops show slightly bigger spikes, I would still consider the mattress to be pretty good at isolating motion, thanks to its individually wrapped coils. This indicates you’re unlikely to be too disturbed by your bed partner’s midnight shimmies, which makes this a great option for couples.

Sinkage Test

While purchasing a new mattress, the majority of people want to know whether they’ll feel as though they’re sinking”into” the mattress or lying “on top” of it. To picture this sinkage, I put 4 balls of different sizes and densities (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 pound steel ball, a 50 lb medicine ball, along with a 100 lb medicine ball) on the mattress and quantified how much they compacted the top.

The variations in size, density and weight are supposed to mimic distinct body parts and different sized sleepers. Dreamcloud vs Icomfort

6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.

10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.

50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.

100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.

While you’re going to experience some instant sinkage from the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through those layers, you are going to find the wrapped coils and feel fantastic support. This combination will interest a wide range of sleepers, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers the most.

Edge Support

If you are going to share your mattress with a spouse and will need to utilize the whole surface area of the mattress, then it is likely to be crucial for you to think about the amount of edge support it will provide.

I am especially interested to determine whether the DreamCloud will suffer the same fate as other compacted bed-in-a-box mattresses which fail to fulfill the edge support of more conventional innerspring models.

Laying on my back, I felt as supported at the edge of the mattress as I did at the center. Going closer to the side, I felt a little compression because of the highest foam layers, but nothing too dramatic.

Shifting to my side, I once again noticed compression in the foam layers, but it did not carry over to the wrapped coil system under. This system, along with the polyfoam edge support around the mattress, did a great job of supporting my weight.

In this position, I wanted to simulate what it’d feel like to be sitting on top of the bed in the morning when you’re tying your shoes and getting ready for work. A good deal of foam mattresses undergo a lot of compression in this position, but the DreamCloud actually held up fairly well.
