As a hybrid mattress, the DreamCloud meets a number of our criteria for what a excellent bed must have. With 8 exceptional layers of comfort and support, the DreamCloud uses all the proper materials in its construction. Dreamcloud Coils
From the tufted cashmere cover that gives great airflow, to the gel memory foam at the uppermost comfort layer, the DreamCloud was made to deliver a cooler night’s sleep. Below that are a mix of polyurethane foam and latex layers, meaning this bed includes better quality comfort materials than most other hybrid mattresses.
Even though it uses multiple memory foam layers, there’s not any hug or significant contouring to the bed. If you’re looking to sink into a mattress, move on from the DreamCloud.
A pocketed coil support core keeps you aligned all night long, particularly for all you back sleepers on the market.

Construction Dreamcloud Coils
The DreamCloud has an astoundingly tall profile for a mattress at a whopping 15 inches. The eight-layer structure is broken down into foam and wrapped coil parts, which operate in tandem to supply the sleeper with a strong innerspring lift and plenty of comfy pressure relief.
Given all the different materials at play , I am stoked to get into these layers to understand how well they interact with one another. Dreamcloud Coils
Cover – The cover is made up of a cashmere and polyester blend for a soft texture up top. Additionally, it is quilted with memory foam, which provides the sleeper with instant relaxation.
Foam Layers – Below the cover, you will find three thin layers of foam. While these segments are soft to the touch and supply some pleasing sinkage, they also react quickly to pressure, so you won’t feel stuck in the mattress. The middle of these three layers is particularly essential because of the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it is comprised of perforated latex foam. Latex generally is great at dissipating heat, so the addition of these small ventilations promotes more cooling.
Pocketed Coils – The base layer of foam transitions into the firmer support segment of this mattress, which is made up of a pocketed coil system. These individually wrapped springs provide the bed excellent rebound and assist to disperse motion throughout the structure. The coils also assist in moderating temperature as the distances between them allow for steady air flow.
Foundation Layer – A thin layer of high-density polyfoam is found in the bottom of the mattress, with the main function of cradling the pocketed coils and providing a solid foundation for the entire mattress.
After having a look at the construction of the DreamCloud, let us talk about the firmness and feel. I started off by putting light hand pressure to the bed and immediately felt the soft foam of the quilted cover and first layers. My hands sunk into the material and I could sense some instantaneous pressure relief. Pushing in further, I started to interact with all the pocketed coils beneath and experienced a nice lift from the springs.
Now I’d like to let you know that people of different body types and shapes will sense firmness differently. Rather than giving just my opinion on the general firmness level of the mattress, I invited three other people to give their opinion as well. This will give you a better feeling of the firmness range you may see from the mattress.
As you can find in the graph above, the testers were in agreement about the firmness of the mattress, giving it a mean rating of 7.75. Compare this to the industry norm of 6.5 for moderate firmness and it’s clear that this bed is pretty firm.
I personally gave the bed a 7.5 and concur with the other testers that it is definitely a solid mattress. While you’ll feel some slight sinking because of the lavish foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils in the core will lift you from the bed and make you feel as though you’re sleeping on top of this mattress.
As opposed to just describing the feel of the DreamCloud to you, I chose to give a visual representation of where somebody may feel pressure points shape while lying on the mattress. To do this, I placed a pressure map on top of the bed and lied on my back, side, and stomach. You can see the results on the picture below where pressure is denoted from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back – When on my backside, my weight was evenly dispersed throughout the mattress, so I didn’t feel like I was sinking into the mattress at all. The quilted cover gave quality relief in my lumbar area and the pocketed coils helped lift me out of the mattress and keep my spine in alignment.
Side – As you can see in the chart above, after I rolled onto my side, I began to feel pressure forming at my hips and shoulders. However, I still felt supported and the top foam layers relieved what distress I felt in this position.
Stomach – Switching over to my belly, I thought that the DreamCloud did a fantastic job of lifting my hips up and from the bed, which is key for stomach sleepers. I should mention that I managed to shift across these positions with comparative ease.
If you intend on sharing your mattress with a partner, you will want to know what it’ll feel like when the other person crawls out of bed in the break of dawn or tosses around at nighttime. This next test is intended to demonstrate the intensity of motion that’s detectable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. Dreamcloud Coils
To illustrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 lb steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and then quantified the disturbance it caused: the bigger the lines, the bigger the disturbance.
The DreamCloud demonstrates a little bit of disturbance for the four inch drop, which simulates somebody tossing around and adjusting their position on the other side of the bed. While the 8 and 12 inch drops show slightly bigger spikes, I’d still regard the mattress to be quite good at isolating motion, thanks to the individually wrapped coils. This means you’re unlikely to be too disturbed by your bed partner’s midnight shimmies, making this a great solution for couples.
When purchasing a new mattress, the majority of people want to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking”into” the bed or laying “on top” of it. To picture this sinkage, I placed 4 balls of different sizes and densities (a 6 pound medicine ball, a 10 lb steel ball, a 50 pound medicine ball, and a 100 lb medicine ball) on the mattress then measured how much they compacted the top.
The variations in size, weight and density are meant to mimic different body parts and different sized sleepers. Dreamcloud Coils
– 6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.
– 10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
– 50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
– 100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.
Even though you’re likely to experience some instant sinkage from the soft foam at the top, by the time you sink through these layers, you’ll find the wrapped coils and feel fantastic support. This combo will interest a vast range of sleepers, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers the most.
If you’re going to share your mattress with a spouse and need to use the whole surface area of the mattress, it is likely to be crucial for you to think about the amount of edge support it’ll give you.
I am especially interested to determine whether the DreamCloud will suffer the exact same fate as other compressed bed-in-a-box mattresses which fail to fulfill the edge support of more traditional innerspring models.
Laying on my back, I felt just as supported in the edge of the mattress as I did in the middle. Going closer to the side, I experienced a bit of compression because of the top foam layers, but nothing overly dramatic.
Changing to my side, I noticed compression in the foam layers, but it didn’t carry over to the wrapped coil system under. This system, along with the polyfoam edge support around the mattress, did a great job of supporting my body.
In this position, I wished to simulate what it would feel like to be sitting on top of the bed in the morning when you are tying your shoes and getting ready for the day. A good deal of foam mattresses experience a lot of compression in this position, but the DreamCloud really held up fairly well.
