Because it’s a hybrid mattress, the DreamCloud meets a number of our standards for what a excellent mattress must have. With eight exceptional layers of support and comfort, the DreamCloud uses all the right materials in its construction. Dreamcloud Mattress Customer Review
From the tufted cashmere cover that gives great airflow, to the gel memory foam at the uppermost comfort layer, the DreamCloud is designed to deliver a cooler night’s sleep. Resting below are a mixture of polyurethane foam and latex layers, meaning this bed includes better quality relaxation materials than most other hybrid beds.

Even though it uses multiple memory foam layers, there’s not any hug or significant contouring to the bed. If you’re looking to sink into a mattress, then move on from the DreamCloud.

A pocketed coil support core keeps you aligned all night long, particularly so for all you back sleepers on the market.

Construction Dreamcloud Mattress Customer Review

The DreamCloud features an astoundingly tall profile for a mattress at a whopping 15 inches. The eight-layer structure is broken down to foam and wrapped coil components, which work in tandem to supply the sleeper with a firm innerspring lift and plenty of comfortable pressure relief.

Given all of the distinct materials at play here, I am stoked to get into these layers to see how well they interact with one another. Dreamcloud Mattress Customer Review

construction-1

Cover – The cover is composed of a cashmere and polyester blend for a luxuriously soft texture up top. It’s also built with memory foam, which provides the sleeper with immediate pressure relief.

Foam Layers – Under the cover, you’ll find three thin layers of foam. While these sections are soft to the touch and supply some pleasing sinkage, they also respond quickly to pressure, so you won’t feel stuck in the bed. The middle of these three layers is especially important because of the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it is made up of perforated latex foam. Latex in general is great at dissipating heat, so the addition of these tiny ventilations promotes even more cooling.

Pocketed Coils – The base layer of foam transitions into the firmer support section of this mattress, which is composed of a pocketed coil system. These individually wrapped springs provide the bed excellent rebound and assist disperse motion throughout the structure. The coils also aid in moderating temperatures as the spaces between them allow for continuous air flow.

Foundation Layer – A thin layer of high-density polyfoam is found at the bottom of the mattress, with the major function of cradling the pocketed coils and offering a solid foundation for the whole mattress.

Firmness

After taking a peek at the construction of the DreamCloud, let us talk about the firmness and feel. I started off by applying light hand pressure to the mattress and instantly felt the soft foam of the quilted cover and top layers. My hands flowed into the material and I could sense some instantaneous pressure relief. Pushing in farther, I started to interact with the pocketed coils beneath and experienced a pleasant lift from the springs.

Now I want to note that people of different body shapes and types will sense firmness differently. Rather than giving just my opinion on the general firmness level of this mattress, I invited three additional individuals to give their view too. This will provide you with a much better feeling of the firmness range you can expect from the bed.

firmness test-1

As you can see in the chart above, the testers were pretty much in agreement about the firmness of this DreamCloud, giving it a mean score of 7.75. Compared to the market norm of 6.5 for medium firmness and it’s clear that this bed is pretty firm.

Personally, I gave the bed a 7.5 and agree with the other testers that it is definitely a good bed. At the same time you’ll feel some slight sinking from the plush foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils at the center will lift you out of this mattress and make you feel like you’re sleeping on top of this mattress.

Pressure Map

As opposed to just explaining the feel of this DreamCloud for you, I chose to provide a visual representation of where someone may feel pressure points shape while lying on the mattress. To do so, I put a pressure map on top of the mattress and lied on my back, side, and tummy. You can find the outcomes on the picture below where pressure is denoted from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).

pressure map-1

Back – When on my backside, my weight was evenly dispersed across the mattress, therefore I did not feel like I was sinking into the bed in any way. The quilted cover provided quality relief at my lumbar region and also the pocketed coils helped to lift me out of the mattress and keep my spine in alignment.

Side – As you can see in the graph above, once I rolled onto my side, I began to feel pressure forming in my shoulders and hips. However, I still felt supported and the top foam layers relieved what distress I felt in this position.

Stomach – Switching over to my stomach, I believed that the DreamCloud did a fantastic job of lifting my hips up and out of the bed, which is crucial for stomach sleepers. I should mention that I managed to shift across these positions with comparative ease.

Motion Transfer

If you intend on sharing your mattress with a partner, you will want to know what it will feel like when another individual crawls out of bed in the morning or tosses around at night. This next test is intended to demonstrate the high level of movement that’s detectable from one side of the mattress from the other. Dreamcloud Mattress Customer Review

To illustrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 lb steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and quantified the disturbance it generated: the bigger the lines, the larger the disturbance.

The DreamCloud demonstrates a little bit of disturbance for the four inch drop, which simulates somebody rolling around and adjusting their position on the opposite side of the mattress. While the 8 and 12 inch drops reveal slightly bigger spikes, I would still consider the mattress to be quite good at isolating motion, as a result of its individually wrapped coils. This indicates that you’re not likely to be too disturbed by your bed partner’s midnight shimmies, which makes this a great option for couples.

Sinkage Test

While buying a new bed, the majority of people want to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking”into” the bed or lying “on top” of it. To visualize this sinkage, I put 4 balls of different sizes and densities (a 6 pound medicine ball, a 10 pound steel ball, a 50 pound medicine ball, and a 100 pound medicine ball) on the mattress then quantified how much they compressed the surface.

The variations in size, weight and density are supposed to mimic distinct body parts and different sized sleepers. Dreamcloud Mattress Customer Review

6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.

10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.

50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.

100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.

While you’re likely to encounter some instant sinkage from the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through these layers, you are going to hit the wrapped coils and feel fantastic support. This combination will appeal to a vast range of sleepers, but will suit back and stomach sleepers in particular.

Edge Support

If you’re going to share your bed with a spouse and need to use the whole surface area of the mattress, it’s going to be crucial for you to think about the amount of edge support it will give you.

I’m especially interested to determine if the DreamCloud will endure the exact same fate as other compressed bed-in-a-box mattresses that fail to fulfill the edge support of more conventional innerspring models.

Laying on my back, I felt just as supported in the edge of the mattress as I did in the center. Pressing closer to the side, I felt a little compression because of the top foam layers, but nothing too dramatic.

Shifting to my side, I noticed compression in the foam layers, but it did not carry over to the coil system under. This system, along with the polyfoam edge support around the mattress, did a great job of supporting my weight.

In this position, I wanted to simulate what it’d feel like to be sitting on top of the bed in the morning when you’re tying your shoes and getting ready for work. A good deal of foam mattresses experience severe compression in this position, but the DreamCloud really held up fairly well.
