As a hybrid mattress, the DreamCloud meets a number of our standards for what a quality bed must have. With eight unique layers of comfort and support, the DreamCloud uses all of the proper materials in its construction. Dreamcloud Images
From the tufted cashmere cover that gives great airflow, to the gel memory foam at the uppermost comfort layer, the DreamCloud is designed to promote a cooler night’s sleep. Below that are a mix of memory foam and latex layers, meaning this mattress contains better quality relaxation materials than most other hybrid mattresses.
Even though it uses multiple memory foam layers, there’s no hug or significant shaping to the bed. If you are looking to sink into a mattress, move on from the DreamCloud.
A pocketed coil support center keeps you aligned all night long, particularly so for all you back sleepers on the market.

Construction Dreamcloud Images
The DreamCloud features an astoundingly tall profile for a mattress at a humongous 15 inches. The eight-layer construction is broken down to foam and wrapped coil parts, which operate in tandem to supply the sleeper with a strong innerspring lift and plenty of comfortable pressure relief.
Given all the different materials at play here, I’m stoked to get into these layers to see how well they interact together. Dreamcloud Images
Cover – The cover is made up of a cashmere and polyester blend for a soft texture up top. It’s also built with memory foam, which provides the sleeper with instant relaxation.
Foam Layers – Below the cover, you’ll discover three thin layers of foam. While these sections are soft to the touch and provide some pleasing sinkage, they also respond quickly to pressure, so you won’t feel trapped in the bed. The center of the three layers is particularly essential because of the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it’s made up of perforated latex foam. Latex in general is good at dissipating heat, so the inclusion of these small ventilations promotes even more cooling.
Pocketed Coils – The bottom layer of polyurethane transitions to the firmer support segment of the mattress, which is composed of a pocketed coil system. These individually wrapped springs provide the mattress excellent bounce and help disperse motion throughout the mattress. The coils also assist in regulating temperature as the spaces between them allow for continuous air flow.
Foundation Layer – A thin layer of high-density polyfoam lies at the base of the mattress, with the main function of cradling the pocketed coils and providing a sound foundation for the entire mattress.
After taking a look at the construction of the DreamCloud, let us talk about the firmness and feel. I started off by applying mild hand pressure to the mattress and immediately felt the soft foam of the quilted cover and first layers. My hand flowed into the material and I could sense some instant pressure relief. Pushing in further, I started to interact with all the pocketed coils beneath and experienced a pleasant lift from the springs.
At this point I want to let you know that people of different body types and shapes will feel firmness differently. Rather than giving just my view on the overall firmness level of this DreamCloud, I enlisted three other individuals to present their opinion too. This will provide you with a better feeling of the firmness range you can see from the bed.
As you can find in the chart above, the testers were in agreement about the firmness of this DreamCloud, giving it a mean score of 7.75. Compare this to the industry norm of 6.5 for medium firmness and it is clear that this mattress is really firm.
Personally, I gave the bed a 7.5 and concur with the other testers that it’s definitely a good bed. While you’ll feel some slight sinking because of the plush foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils in the center will lift you from the mattress and make you feel as though you’re sleeping on top of the mattress.
As opposed to just describing the feel of the DreamCloud for you, I chose to give a visual representation of where someone may feel pressure points form while lying on it. To do this, I placed a pressure map on top of the bed and lied on my backside, and tummy. You can see the results on the picture below where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back – Once on my back, my weight was equally distributed throughout the mattress, so I didn’t feel as though I was sinking into the mattress in any way. The quilted cover gave quality relief in my lumbar region and also the pocketed coils helped lift me from the bed and keep my back in alignment.
Side – As you can see in the chart above, once I rolled onto my side, I started to feel pressure forming at my hips and shoulders. However, I still felt supported and the top foam layers relieved what distress I felt in this position.
Stomach – Shifting over to my stomach, I believed that the DreamCloud did a fantastic job of lifting my hips up and from the bed, which is key for stomach sleepers. I should mention that I managed to shift across these positions with comparative ease.
If you plan on sharing your mattress with a partner, you will want to know what it’ll feel like when the other individual crawls out of bed in the morning or tosses around at nighttime. This next test is intended to demonstrate the high level of motion that is detectable from 1 side of the mattress to another. Dreamcloud Images
To show you this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 pound steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and measured the disturbance it generated: the larger the lines, the bigger the disturbance.
The DreamCloud shows a small amount of disturbance for the four inch drop, which simulates someone rolling around and adjusting their position on the opposite side of the mattress. While the 8 and 12 inch drops reveal slightly bigger spikes, I’d still consider the mattress to be pretty good at isolating motion, thanks to its individually wrapped coils. This means you’re unlikely to be too disturbed by your bed mate’s midnight shimmies, which makes this an awesome solution for couples.
When purchasing a new mattress, the majority of men and women want to know whether they will feel like they’re sinking”into” the bed or lying “on top” of it. To picture this sinkage, I put 4 balls of different sizes and densities (a 6 pound medicine ball, a 10 lb steel ball, a 50 lb medicine ball, and a 100 lb medicine ball) on the mattress and quantified how much they compressed the surface.
The variations in size, weight and density are meant to simulate different body parts and different sized sleepers. Dreamcloud Images
– 6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.
– 10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
– 50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
– 100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.
While you’re likely to encounter some immediate sinkage in the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through those layers, you are going to find the wrapped coils and experience fantastic support. This combo will interest a wide range of sleepers, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers the most.
If you’re going to share your mattress with a spouse and need to utilize the entire surface area of the mattress, it is likely to be crucial for you to consider the amount of edge support it’ll give you.
I am particularly interested to see if the DreamCloud will endure the exact same fate as other compressed bed-in-a-box mattresses that fail to live up to the edge support of more traditional innerspring versions.
Laying on my back, I felt just as supported in the edge of the bed as I did at the middle. Going closer to the side, I felt a bit of compression due to the highest foam layers, but nothing overly dramatic.
Shifting to my side, I noticed compression in the foam layers, but it did not carry over into the coil system under. This system, along with the polyfoam edge support round the mattress, did a great job of supporting my body.
In this position, I wanted to simulate what it would feel like to be sitting on the bed in the morning when you’re tying your shoes and getting ready for work. A lot of foam mattresses undergo severe compression in this position, but the DreamCloud really held up fairly good.
