As a hybrid mattress, the DreamCloud fulfills a number of our criteria for what a quality mattress should provide. With 8 unique layers of support and comfort, the DreamCloud utilizes all the proper materials in its construction. Unwrapping A Dreamcloud
From the tufted cashmere cover that provides good airflow, to the gel memory foam at the uppermost comfort layer, the DreamCloud was made to promote a cooler night’s sleep. Resting below are a mixture of memory foam and latex layers, meaning this mattress contains better quality relaxation materials than most other hybrid beds.
Even though it utilizes multiple memory foam layers, there is not any hug or significant shaping to the mattress. If you’re searching to sink into a mattress, then move on from the DreamCloud.
A pocketed coil support center keeps you aligned all night long, particularly so for all you back sleepers out there.

Construction Unwrapping A Dreamcloud
The DreamCloud has a tall profile for a mattress at a humongous 15 inches. The eight-layer structure is broken down to foam and wrapped coil parts, which work in tandem to supply the sleeper with a firm innerspring lift and lots of comfy pressure relief.
Given all the different materials at play , I’m stoked to dive into these layers to see how well they interact with one another. Unwrapping A Dreamcloud
Cover – The cover is composed of a cashmere and polyester blend for a soft texture up top. Additionally, it is quilted with memory foam, which provides the sleeper with instant relaxation.
Foam Layers – Below the cover, you’ll find three thin layers of foam. While these sections are soft to the touch and supply some pleasing sinkage, they also respond quickly to pressure, so that you won’t feel stuck in the mattress. The center of these three layers is especially important for the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it’s comprised of perforated latex foam. Latex in general is good at releasing heat, so the addition of those tiny ventilations promotes even more cooling.
Pocketed Coils – The base layer of foam transitions into the firmer support segment of this mattress, which is made up of a pocketed coil system. These individually wrapped springs provide the mattress excellent bounce and help disperse motion throughout the mattress. The coils also assist in regulating temperatures as the spaces between them allow for steady air flow.
Foundation Layer – A thin layer of high-density polyfoam lies in the base of the mattress, with the main function of cradling the pocketed coils and offering a solid foundation for the whole mattress.
After having a peek at the construction of the DreamCloud, let’s chat about the firmness and texture. I started off by putting light hand pressure to the mattress and immediately felt the soft foam of the quilted cover and first layers. My hands flowed into the material and I could feel some instantaneous pressure relief. Pushing in further, I began to interact with all the pocketed coils below and experienced a nice lift from the springs.
At this point I want to note that people of different body shapes and types will feel firmness differently. As opposed to giving only my opinion on the overall firmness level of the mattress, I invited three additional people to present their opinion too. This will give you a much better feeling of the firmness range you may expect from the mattress.
As you can see in the chart above, the testers were in agreement about the firmness of the DreamCloud, giving it a mean rating of 7.75. Compared to the industry standard of 6.5 for medium firmness and it is clear that this bed is really firm.
Personally, I gave the bed a 7.5 and agree with the rest of the testers that it’s definitely a good bed. While you’ll feel some small sinking from the lavish foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils at the core will lift you out of the bed and make you feel as though you’re sleeping on top of this mattress.
As opposed to simply describing the feel of this mattress to you, I chose to give a visual representation of where somebody may feel pressure points form while lying on the mattress. To do this, I placed a pressure map on top of the bed and lied on my back, side, and tummy. You can find the outcomes on the image below where pressure is denoted from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back – Once on my back, my weight was evenly dispersed across the mattress, therefore I did not feel like I was sinking into the bed in any way. The quilted cover gave quality relief in my lumbar area and also the pocketed coils helped to lift me out of the bed and keep my spine in alignment.
Side – As you can see in the chart above, after I rolled onto my side, I started to feel pressure forming in my shoulders and hips. However, I still felt supported and the top foam layers alleviated what discomfort I felt in this position.
Stomach – Switching over to my belly, I thought that the DreamCloud did a fantastic job of lifting my hips upward and out of the mattress, which can be key for stomach sleepers. I should mention that I managed to shift across these positions with relative ease.
If you intend on sharing your mattress with a spouse, you’ll want to find out what it’ll feel like when another person crawls out of bed in the morning or tosses around during the night. This next test is intended to demonstrate the intensity of motion that is detectable from one side of the mattress from another. Unwrapping A Dreamcloud
To show you this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 lb steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and measured the disturbance it caused: the larger the lines, the bigger the disturbance.
The DreamCloud demonstrates a little bit of disturbance for the 4 inch drop, which simulates someone rolling around and adjusting their position on the other side of the bed. While the 8 and 12 inch drops show slightly bigger spikes, I would still regard the mattress to be quite good at isolating movement, as a result of the individually wrapped coils. This means you’re unlikely to be overly disturbed by your mattress partner’s midnight shimmies, making this a great option for couples.
When purchasing a new mattress, the majority of men and women wish to know whether they will feel as though they’re sinking”into” the mattress or lying “on top” of it. To picture this sinkage, I placed four balls of varying sizes and densities (a 6 pound medicine ball, a 10 pound steel ball, a 50 lb medicine ball, and a 100 lb medicine ball) on the mattress then measured how much they compacted the top.
The variations in size, weight and density are meant to mimic different body parts and different sized sleepers. Unwrapping A Dreamcloud
– 6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.
– 10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
– 50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
– 100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.
Even though you’re likely to encounter some immediate sinkage in the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through those layers, you’ll hit the wrapped coils and feel amazing support. This combo will appeal to a vast range of sleepers, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers the most.
If you’re going to share your mattress with a partner and will need to use the whole surface area of the mattress, it is likely to be crucial that you consider the amount of edge support it will provide.
I’m particularly interested to see if the DreamCloud will endure the exact same fate as other compressed bed-in-a-box mattresses that fail to fulfill the edge support of more conventional innerspring versions.
Laying on my back, I felt as supported at the edge of the bed as I did at the middle. Pressing closer to the side, I experienced a bit of compression due to the top foam layers, but nothing too dramatic.
Shifting to my side, I noticed compression in the foam layers, but it didn’t carry over into the wrapped coil system beneath. This system, along with the polyfoam edge support around the mattress, did a great job of supporting my weight.
In this position, I wished to simulate what it would feel like to be sitting on the mattress in the morning when you’re tying your shoes and getting ready for work. A good deal of foam mattresses undergo a lot of compression in this position, but the DreamCloud really held up fairly good.
