Because it’s a hybrid mattress, the DreamCloud fulfills many of our standards for what a quality mattress should provide. With eight exceptional layers of support and comfort, the DreamCloud utilizes all the right materials in its construction. Tornado Dream Cloud
From the tufted cashmere cover that provides good airflow, to the gel memory foam at the uppermost comfort layer, the DreamCloud is designed to deliver a cooler night’s sleep. Below that are a mixture of polyurethane foam and latex layers, meaning this mattress contains better quality comfort materials than most other hybrid mattresses.

Despite the fact that it uses multiple memory foam layers, there is not any hug or significant contouring to the mattress. If you are looking to sink into a mattress, proceed from the DreamCloud.

A pocketed coil support center keeps you aligned all night long, especially for all you back sleepers out there.

Construction Tornado Dream Cloud

The DreamCloud has an astoundingly tall profile for a mattress at a humongous 15 inches. The eight-layer structure is broken down to foam and wrapped coil components, which work in tandem to supply the sleeper with a firm innerspring lift and lots of comfortable pressure relief.

Given all of the distinct materials at play here, I am stoked to get into these layers to see how well they interact together. Tornado Dream Cloud

construction-1

Cover – The cover is composed of a cashmere and polyester blend for a luxuriously soft texture up top. Additionally, it is quilted with memory foam, which supplies the sleeper with immediate pressure relief.

Foam Layers – Below the cover, you’ll discover three thin layers of foam. While these sections are soft to the touch and supply some pleasing sinkage, they also react quickly to pressure, so you won’t feel stuck in the mattress. The middle of these three layers is particularly essential for the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it’s comprised of perforated latex foam. Latex generally is great at dissipating heat, so the inclusion of those small ventilations promotes even more cooling.

Pocketed Coils – The base layer of polyurethane transitions into the firmer support section of the mattress, which is composed of a pocketed coil system. These individually wrapped springs provide the bed excellent rebound and assist to disperse motion throughout the mattress. The coils also aid in moderating temperature as the distances between them permit steady air flow.

Foundation Layer – A thin layer of high-density polyfoam is found at the base of the mattress, with the major function of cradling the pocketed coils and offering a solid foundation for the entire mattress.

Firmness

After taking a peek at the construction of the DreamCloud, let’s chat about the firmness and texture. I started off by applying light hand pressure to the bed and instantly felt the soft foam of the quilted cover and first layers. My hand sunk into the material and I could feel some instantaneous pressure relief. Pushing in farther, I started to interact with all the pocketed coils beneath and experienced a nice lift from the springs.

Now I want to note that people of different body types and shapes will sense firmness differently. As opposed to giving only my view on the overall firmness level of the DreamCloud, I invited three other people to give their view as well. This will provide you with a much better sense of the firmness range you may see from the bed.

firmness test-1

As you can find in the chart above, the testers were in agreement about the firmness of this DreamCloud, giving it a mean rating of 7.75. Compared to the industry standard of 6.5 for medium firmness and it is apparent that this mattress is really firm.

Personally, I gave the mattress a 7.5 and agree with the rest of the testers that it is definitely a solid bed. While you’ll feel some slight sinking because of the plush foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils in the core will lift you out of the bed and make you feel as though you’re sleeping on top of the mattress.

Pressure Map

Rather than simply explaining the feel of the DreamCloud for you, I wanted to provide a visual representation of where somebody may feel pressure points form while lying on the mattress. To do so, I placed a pressure map on top of the mattress and lied on my backside, and stomach. You can see the outcomes on the picture below where pressure is denoted from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).

pressure map-1

Back – When on my backside, my weight was evenly distributed across the mattress, therefore I didn’t feel as though I was sinking into the mattress in any way. The quilted cover gave quality relief at my lumbar area and also the pocketed coils helped to lift me from the bed and keep my spine in alignment.

Side – As you can see in the graph above, after I rolled onto my side, I began to feel pressure forming at my hips and shoulders. However, I felt supported and the top foam layers relieved what distress I felt in this position.

Stomach – Shifting over to my stomach, I believed the DreamCloud did a fantastic job of lifting my hips up and out of the bed, which is crucial for stomach sleepers. I should mention that I managed to shift across these positions with relative ease.

Motion Transfer

If you plan on sharing your bed with a partner, you will want to find out what it’ll feel like when another individual crawls out of bed in the break of dawn or tosses around at nighttime. This next test is intended to demonstrate the high level of movement that is detectable from 1 side of the mattress to another. Tornado Dream Cloud

To illustrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 lb steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and then quantified the disturbance it generated: the bigger the lines, the larger the disturbance.

The DreamCloud shows a little bit of disturbance for the four inch drop, which simulates someone rolling around and adjusting their position on the opposite side of the bed. While the 8 and 12 inch drops reveal slightly bigger spikes, I’d still regard the mattress to be quite good at isolating movement, thanks to its individually wrapped coils. This indicates you’re unlikely to be too disturbed by your mattress partner’s midnight shimmies, making this a great solution for couples.

Sinkage Test

When purchasing a new mattress, the majority of people wish to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking”into” the mattress or lying “on top” of it. To visualize this sinkage, I placed four balls of different sizes and densities (a 6 pound medicine ball, a 10 pound steel ball, a 50 pound medicine ball, along with a 100 pound medicine ball) on the mattress then measured how much they compressed the surface.

The variations in size, weight and density are supposed to mimic distinct body parts and different sized sleepers. Tornado Dream Cloud

6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.

10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.

50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.

100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.

Even though you’re likely to encounter some immediate sinkage from the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through these layers, you are going to find the wrapped coils and feel fantastic support. This combination will interest a vast assortment of sleepers, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers the most.

Edge Support

If you’re going to share your bed with a spouse and will need to utilize the entire surface area of the mattress, it is likely to be crucial that you consider the amount of edge support it’ll provide.

I’m especially interested to determine whether the DreamCloud will suffer the same fate as other compressed bed-in-a-box mattresses that fail to live up to the edge support of more traditional innerspring models.

Laying on my back, I felt as supported at the edge of the mattress as I did at the middle. Going closer to the side, I felt a little compression because of the highest foam layers, but nothing overly dramatic.

Changing to my side, I once again noticed compression in the foam layers, but it didn’t carry over to the wrapped coil system under. This system, along with the polyfoam edge support round the mattress, did a great job of supporting my weight.

In this position, I wished to simulate what it’d feel like to be sitting on top of the bed in the morning when you’re lacing up your shoes and getting ready for work. A good deal of foam mattresses undergo severe compression in this position, but the DreamCloud actually held up fairly good.
