Because it’s a hybrid mattress, the DreamCloud meets many of our standards for what a quality mattress must have. With 8 unique layers of support and comfort, the DreamCloud utilizes all the proper materials in its construction. Tomorrow Sleep vs Dreamcloud
From the tufted cashmere cover that provides good airflow, to the gel memory foam in the uppermost comfort layer, the DreamCloud is designed to deliver a cooler night’s sleep. Below that are a mix of polyurethane foam and latex layers, meaning this bed includes better quality relaxation materials than most other hybrid mattresses.

Even though it uses multiple memory foam layers, there’s not any hug or significant contouring to the bed. If you’re searching to sink into a mattress, then move on from the DreamCloud.

A pocketed coil support center keeps you aligned all night long, especially for all you back sleepers out there.

Construction Tomorrow Sleep vs Dreamcloud

The DreamCloud has a tall profile for a mattress at a humongous 15 inches. The eight-layer structure is broken down to foam and wrapped coil parts, which operate in tandem to provide the sleeper with a firm innerspring lift and lots of comfortable pressure relief.

Given all of the distinct materials at play , I’m stoked to dive into these layers to understand how well they interact together. Tomorrow Sleep vs Dreamcloud

construction-1

Cover – The cover is composed of a cashmere and polyester blend for a soft feel up top. Additionally, it is quilted with memory foam, which provides the sleeper with immediate pressure relief.

Foam Layers – Under the cover, you’ll find three thin layers of foam. While these sections are soft to the touch and supply some pleasing sinkage, they also respond quickly to pressure, so that you won’t feel stuck in the bed. The center of the three layers is particularly important because of the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it’s comprised of perforated latex foam. Latex generally is great at releasing heat, so the inclusion of those small ventilations encourages even more cooling.

Pocketed Coils – The bottom layer of foam transitions to the firmer support section of the mattress, which is made up of a pocketed coil system. These individually wrapped springs provide the mattress excellent rebound and assist disperse motion throughout the mattress. The coils also assist in moderating temperature as the spaces between them allow for steady air flow.

Foundation Layer – A thin layer of high-density polyfoam lies in the base of the mattress, with the main use of cradling the pocketed coils and offering a sound foundation for the whole mattress.

Firmness

After having a peek at the construction of the DreamCloud, let’s chat about the firmness and feel. I started off by applying mild hand pressure into the bed and instantly felt the soft foam of the quilted cover and top layers. My hand flowed into the material and I could sense some instant pressure relief. Pushing in farther, I began to interact with the pocketed coils beneath and experienced a pleasant lift from these springs.

At this point I want to let you know that individuals of different body shapes and types will feel firmness differently. Rather than giving only my opinion on the general firmness level of the DreamCloud, I enlisted three other people to give their opinion too. This will provide you with a better feeling of the firmness range you may expect from the mattress.

firmness test-1

As you can find in the graph above, the testers were in agreement about the stability of this DreamCloud, giving it a mean rating of 7.75. Compared to the industry standard of 6.5 for moderate firmness and it’s clear that this bed is pretty firm.

Personally, I gave the bed a 7.5 and agree with the rest of the testers that it is definitely a good mattress. While you’ll feel some slight sinking because of the plush foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils in the center will lift you from the mattress and make you feel as though you’re sleeping on top of this mattress.

Pressure Map

As opposed to just describing the feel of this mattress to you, I wanted to provide a visual representation of where someone may feel pressure points shape while lying on it. To do so, I placed a pressure map above the mattress and lied on my back, side, and tummy. You can see the outcomes on the image below where pressure is denoted from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).

pressure map-1

Back – Once on my backside, my weight was evenly distributed throughout the mattress, so I did not feel as though I was sinking into the bed in any way. The quilted cover gave quality relief at my lumbar area and also the pocketed coils helped lift me out of the bed and keep my spine in alignment.

Side – As you can see in the graph above, after I rolled onto my side, I started to feel pressure forming at my shoulders and hips. However, I felt supported while the top foam layers relieved what discomfort I felt in this position.

Stomach – Switching over to my belly, I thought the DreamCloud did a great job of lifting my hips upward and from the mattress, which can be crucial for stomach sleepers. I should mention that I was able to transition across these positions with relative ease.

Motion Transfer

If you plan on sharing your bed with a partner, you’ll want to find out what it will feel like when the other individual crawls out of bed in the morning or tosses around at night. This next test is intended to demonstrate the high level of movement that’s detectable from 1 side of the mattress from the other. Tomorrow Sleep vs Dreamcloud

To show you this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 pound steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and then quantified the disturbance it caused: the larger the lines, the bigger the disturbance.

The DreamCloud shows a small amount of disturbance for the four inch drop, which simulates somebody rolling around and adjusting their position on the opposite side of the bed. While the 8 and 12 inch drops reveal slightly bigger spikes, I’d still consider the mattress to be pretty good at isolating movement, as a result of its individually wrapped coils. This means you’re unlikely to be too disturbed by your bed mate’s midnight shimmies, which makes this a great solution for couples.

Sinkage Test

When purchasing a new bed, most men and women want to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking”into” the bed or lying “on top” of it. To picture this sinkage, I placed 4 balls of different sizes and densities (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 pound steel ball, a 50 pound medicine ball, and a 100 pound medicine ball) on the mattress and quantified how much they compressed the surface.

The variations in size, density and weight are supposed to mimic distinct body parts and different sized sleepers. Tomorrow Sleep vs Dreamcloud

6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.

10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.

50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.

100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.

Even though you’re likely to experience some immediate sinkage in the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through these layers, you’ll find the wrapped coils and feel fantastic support. This combo will appeal to a wide range of sleepers, but will suit back and stomach sleepers in particular.

Edge Support

If you are going to share your mattress with a partner and will need to use the entire surface area of the mattress, it is going to be crucial for you to consider the amount of edge support it will provide.

I am particularly interested to determine if the DreamCloud will endure the same fate as other compressed bed-in-a-box mattresses which fail to live up to the edge support of more traditional innerspring models.

Laying on my back, I felt as supported at the edge of the mattress as I did in the middle. Going closer to the side, I experienced a bit of compression because of the top foam layers, but nothing too dramatic.

Shifting to my side, I noticed compression in the foam layers, but it didn’t carry over to the coil system beneath. This system, along with the polyfoam edge support round the mattress, did a great job of supporting my body.

In this position, I wished to simulate what it would feel like to be sitting on top of the mattress in the morning when you are tying your shoes and getting ready for the day. A lot of foam mattresses undergo a lot of compression in this position, but the DreamCloud really held up fairly well.
