Because it’s a hybrid mattress, the DreamCloud meets many of our standards for what a quality mattress must have. With 8 exceptional layers of support and comfort, the DreamCloud uses all of the proper materials in its construction. Setting Up Your Dreamcloud Mattress
From the tufted cashmere cover that provides good airflow, to the gel memory foam at the uppermost comfort layer, the DreamCloud was made to promote a cooler night’s sleep. Resting below are a mixture of polyurethane foam and latex layers, meaning this mattress contains better quality relaxation materials than most other hybrid beds.
Even though it uses multiple memory foam layers, there is not any hug or significant shaping to the bed. If you are looking to sink into a mattress, then move on from the DreamCloud.

Construction Setting Up Your Dreamcloud Mattress
The DreamCloud has an astoundingly tall profile for a mattress at a humongous 15 inches. The eight-layer structure is broken down to foam and wrapped coil components, which work in tandem to provide the sleeper with a strong innerspring lift and plenty of comfortable pressure relief.
Given all of the different materials at play , I’m stoked to get into these layers to see how well they interact together. Setting Up Your Dreamcloud Mattress
Cover – The cover is composed of a cashmere and polyester blend for a luxuriously soft feel up top. Additionally, it is built with memory foam, which supplies the sleeper with instant pressure relief.
Foam Layers – Under the cover, you’ll discover three thin layers of polyurethane. While these segments are soft to the touch and supply some satisfying sinkage, they also respond quickly to pressure, so that you won’t feel trapped in the mattress. The center of the three layers is especially important because of the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it is made up of perforated latex foam. Latex generally is great at releasing heat, so the inclusion of those tiny ventilations promotes more cooling.
Pocketed Coils – The bottom layer of foam transitions to the firmer support segment of the mattress, which is made up of a pocketed coil system. These individually wrapped springs give the bed excellent bounce and help disperse motion throughout the structure. The coils also aid in moderating temperature as the distances between them allow for continuous air flow.
Foundation Layer – A thin layer of high-density polyfoam is found in the base of the mattress, with the major function of cradling the pocketed coils and offering a solid foundation for the whole mattress.
After taking a peek at the construction of the DreamCloud, let’s chat about the firmness and texture. I started off by putting light hand pressure into the bed and immediately felt the soft foam of the quilted cover and top layers. My hands flowed into the material and I could feel some instantaneous pressure relief. Pushing in farther, I began to interact with the pocketed coils beneath and experienced a pleasant lift from the springs.
Now I’d like to let you know that people of different body types and shapes will feel firmness differently. Rather than giving just my opinion on the overall firmness level of the DreamCloud, I enlisted three other individuals to give their opinion too. This will give you a better feeling of the firmness range you may expect from the bed.
As you can see in the graph above, the testers were pretty much in agreement about the firmness of this mattress, giving it a mean rating of 7.75. Compare this to the market standard of 6.5 for moderate firmness and it’s apparent that this bed is pretty firm.
I personally gave the mattress a 7.5 and agree with the other testers that it’s definitely a solid bed. While you’ll feel some slight sinking because of the lavish foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils in the center will lift you from this bed and make you feel like you’re sleeping on top of the mattress.
As opposed to simply describing the feel of the DreamCloud to you, I wanted to provide a visual representation of where someone may feel pressure points form while lying on it. To do this, I placed a pressure map above the bed and lied on my back, side, and tummy. You can see the results on the picture below where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back – When on my backside, my weight was evenly distributed throughout the mattress, so I didn’t feel as though I was sinking into the bed at all. The quilted cover gave quality relief at my lumbar region and also the pocketed coils helped lift me from the bed and keep my spine in alignment.
Side – As you can see in the graph above, after I rolled onto my side, I started to feel pressure forming in my shoulders and hips. However, I still felt supported while the top foam layers alleviated what distress I felt in this position.
Stomach – Switching over to my stomach, I believed that the DreamCloud did a great job of lifting my hips up and out of the bed, which can be key for stomach sleepers. I must mention that I managed to shift across these positions with relative ease.
If you intend on sharing your bed with a partner, you’ll want to find out what it’ll feel like if the other individual crawls out of bed in the break of dawn or tosses around at nighttime. This next test is meant to demonstrate the high level of movement that’s detectable from one side of the mattress to the other. Setting Up Your Dreamcloud Mattress
To illustrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 pound steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and then measured the disturbance it generated: the bigger the lines, the bigger the disturbance.
The DreamCloud shows a small amount of disturbance for the four inch drop, which simulates someone rolling around and adjusting their position on the other side of the mattress. While the 8 and 12 inch drops reveal slightly bigger spikes, I’d still regard the mattress to be pretty good at isolating motion, as a result of the individually wrapped coils. This means you’re not likely to be overly disturbed by your bed partner’s midnight shimmies, which makes this a great option for couples.
While purchasing a new mattress, the majority of men and women wish to know whether they will feel as though they’re sinking”into” the bed or lying “on top” of it. To visualize this sinkage, I put 4 balls of varying sizes and densities (a 6 pound medicine ball, a 10 pound steel ball, a 50 lb medicine ball, along with a 100 pound medicine ball) on the mattress and quantified how much they compressed the surface.
The variations in size, density and weight are supposed to simulate different body parts and different sized sleepers. Setting Up Your Dreamcloud Mattress
– 6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.
– 10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
– 50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
– 100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.
Even though you’re going to encounter some immediate sinkage from the soft foam at the top, by the time you sink through those layers, you’ll find the wrapped coils and experience amazing support. This combo will interest a vast range of sleepers, but will suit back and stomach sleepers in particular.
If you’re going to share your mattress with a spouse and will need to utilize the whole surface area of the mattress, it’s likely to be crucial for you to think about the amount of edge support it will give you.
I am especially interested to see whether the DreamCloud will suffer the same fate as other compacted bed-in-a-box mattresses that fail to fulfill the edge support of more traditional innerspring models.
Laying on my back, I felt as supported in the edge of the bed as I did at the center. Going closer to the side, I felt a bit of compression because of the highest foam layers, but nothing too dramatic.
Shifting to my side, I once again noticed compression in the foam layers, but it did not carry over to the coil system beneath. This system, along with the polyfoam edge support around the mattress, did a great job of supporting my weight.
In this position, I wanted to simulate what it would feel like to be sitting on top of the mattress in the morning when you’re lacing up your shoes and getting ready for the day. A lot of foam mattresses experience severe compression in this position, but the DreamCloud actually held up fairly good.
