Because it’s a hybrid mattress, the DreamCloud meets many of our criteria for what a quality mattress must provide. With eight exceptional layers of comfort and support, the DreamCloud uses all of the proper materials in its construction. Nest Hybrid vs Dreamcloud
From the tufted cashmere cover that gives great airflow, to the gel memory foam in the uppermost comfort layer, the DreamCloud is designed to deliver a cooler night’s sleep. Resting below are a mixture of polyurethane foam and latex layers, meaning this bed includes better quality relaxation materials than most other hybrid beds.

Despite the fact that it utilizes multiple memory foam layers, there’s no hug or significant contouring to the mattress. If you’re searching to sink into a mattress, then move on from the DreamCloud.

A pocketed coil support core keeps you aligned all night long, particularly for all you back sleepers out there.

Construction Nest Hybrid vs Dreamcloud

The DreamCloud has a tall profile for a mattress at a whopping 15 inches. The eight-layer structure is broken down into foam and wrapped coil parts, which work in tandem to supply the sleeper with a firm innerspring lift and plenty of comfortable pressure relief.

Given all of the distinct materials at play here, I am stoked to get into these layers to understand how well they interact with one another. Nest Hybrid vs Dreamcloud

construction-1

Cover – The cover is made up of a cashmere and polyester blend for a soft feel up top. It’s also quilted with memory foam, which supplies the sleeper with instant relaxation.

Foam Layers – Under the cover, you’ll find three thin layers of foam. While these segments are soft to the touch and provide some satisfying sinkage, they also respond quickly to pressure, so that you won’t feel trapped in the bed. The middle of the three layers is particularly important because of the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it’s made up of perforated latex foam. Latex generally is good at dissipating heat, so the addition of those tiny ventilations promotes even more cooling.

Pocketed Coils – The base layer of polyurethane transitions into the firmer support segment of this mattress, which is composed of a pocketed coil system. These individually wrapped springs provide the bed excellent bounce and help to disperse motion throughout the mattress. The coils also aid in moderating temperatures as the distances between them allow for continuous air flow.

Foundation Layer – A thin layer of high-density polyfoam is found at the bottom of the mattress, with the main use of cradling the pocketed coils and offering a sound foundation for the whole mattress.

Firmness

After taking a look at the construction of the DreamCloud, let us talk about the firmness and feel. I started off by applying mild hand pressure into the bed and instantly felt the soft foam of the quilted cover and top layers. My hands sunk into the material and I could feel some instantaneous pressure relief. Pushing in farther, I started to interact with the pocketed coils beneath and experienced a nice lift from the springs.

At this point I’d like to note that people of different body types and shapes will feel firmness differently. Rather than giving only my view on the general firmness level of this DreamCloud, I invited three additional people to present their view as well. This will provide you with a much better feeling of the firmness range you can expect from the bed.

firmness test-1

As you can find in the chart above, the testers were pretty much in agreement about the stability of the DreamCloud, giving it a mean score of 7.75. Compare this to the industry standard of 6.5 for medium firmness and it is clear that this mattress is really firm.

I personally gave the mattress a 7.5 and concur with the rest of the testers that it’s definitely a good bed. While you’ll feel some small sinking from the lavish foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils at the core will lift you out of the mattress and make you feel as though you’re sleeping on top of this mattress.

Pressure Map

Rather than just describing the feel of this DreamCloud to you, I chose to provide a visual representation of where someone may feel pressure points form while lying on the mattress. To do so, I put a pressure map above the mattress and lied on my back, side, and tummy. You can see the outcomes on the image below where pressure is denoted from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).

pressure map-1

Back – When on my backside, my weight was equally dispersed throughout the mattress, therefore I did not feel as though I was sinking into the bed in any way. The quilted cover provided quality relief at my lumbar region and also the pocketed coils helped lift me from the bed and keep my spine in alignment.

Side – As you can see in the chart above, once I rolled onto my side, I started to feel pressure forming in my shoulders and hips. But, I still felt supported while the top foam layers alleviated what distress I felt in this position.

Stomach – Shifting over to my stomach, I believed that the DreamCloud did a fantastic job of lifting my hips up and out of the bed, which is key for stomach sleepers. I should mention that I managed to shift across these positions with comparative ease.

Motion Transfer

If you intend on sharing your mattress with a spouse, you will want to find out what it’ll feel like if the other person crawls out of bed in the morning or tosses around during the nighttime. This next test is intended to demonstrate the high level of motion that’s detectable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. Nest Hybrid vs Dreamcloud

To show you this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 lb steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and quantified the disturbance it caused: the larger the lines, the larger the disturbance.

The DreamCloud shows a little bit of disturbance for the 4 inch drop, which simulates somebody rolling around and adjusting their position on the opposite side of the bed. While the 8 and 12 inch drops reveal slightly bigger spikes, I’d still consider the mattress to be pretty good at isolating movement, thanks to the individually wrapped coils. This indicates you’re not likely to be overly disturbed by your bed mate’s midnight shimmies, making this an awesome solution for couples.

Sinkage Test

When purchasing a new mattress, most men and women wish to know whether they’ll feel as though they’re sinking”into” the bed or laying “on top” of it. To picture this sinkage, I placed 4 balls of different sizes and densities (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 pound steel ball, a 50 pound medicine ball, along with a 100 pound medicine ball) on the mattress and quantified how much they compressed the surface.

The variations in size, density and weight are meant to mimic distinct body parts and different sized sleepers. Nest Hybrid vs Dreamcloud

6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.

10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.

50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.

100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.

While you’re going to experience some immediate sinkage from the soft foam at the top, by the time you sink through those layers, you are going to hit the wrapped coils and experience amazing support. This combination will appeal to a vast range of sleepers, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers the most.

Edge Support

If you are going to share your bed with a spouse and need to utilize the entire surface area of the mattress, it is going to be crucial that you consider the amount of edge support it will give you.

I am particularly interested to see whether the DreamCloud will suffer the same fate as other compressed bed-in-a-box mattresses that fail to live up to the edge support of more conventional innerspring models.

Lying on my back, I felt as supported at the edge of the bed as I did in the middle. Going closer to the side, I felt a little compression because of the top foam layers, but nothing too dramatic.

Shifting to my side, I noticed compression in the foam layers, but it didn’t carry over to the wrapped coil system below. This system, together with the polyfoam edge support around the mattress, did a good job of supporting my body.

In this position, I wanted to simulate what it would feel like to be sitting on the mattress in the morning when you’re lacing up your shoes and getting ready for the day. A good deal of foam mattresses undergo a lot of compression in this position, but the DreamCloud really held up fairly good.
