As a hybrid mattress, the DreamCloud fulfills many of our criteria for what a quality mattress should provide. With eight exceptional layers of support and comfort, the DreamCloud utilizes all of the right materials in its construction. Nectar vs Lull vs Dreamcloud
From the tufted cashmere cover that provides great airflow, to the gel memory foam at the uppermost comfort layer, the DreamCloud was made to deliver a cooler night’s sleep. Below that are a mix of polyurethane foam and latex layers, meaning this bed contains better quality comfort materials than most other hybrid mattresses.

Despite the fact that it utilizes multiple memory foam layers, there’s not any hug or significant contouring to the mattress. If you are searching to sink into a mattress, then move on from the DreamCloud.

A pocketed coil support center keeps you aligned all night long, especially for all you back sleepers out there.

Construction Nectar vs Lull vs Dreamcloud

The DreamCloud has a tall profile for a mattress at a whopping 15 inches. The eight-layer structure is broken down into foam and wrapped coil parts, which operate in tandem to provide the sleeper with a firm innerspring lift and plenty of comfortable pressure relief.

Given all the different materials at play here, I’m stoked to dive into these layers to understand how well they interact together. Nectar vs Lull vs Dreamcloud

construction-1

Cover – The cover is made up of a cashmere and polyester blend for a luxuriously soft feel up top. It’s also built with memory foam, which provides the sleeper with immediate relaxation.

Foam Layers – Below the cover, you will find three thin layers of foam. While these segments are soft to the touch and supply some satisfying sinkage, they also react quickly to pressure, so you won’t feel stuck in the bed. The center of the three layers is especially essential for the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it is comprised of perforated latex foam. Latex generally is good at dissipating heat, so the addition of those small ventilations promotes more cooling.

Pocketed Coils – The base layer of polyurethane transitions into the firmer support segment of this mattress, which is made up of a pocketed coil system. These individually wrapped springs give the bed excellent rebound and assist disperse motion throughout the structure. The coils also aid in regulating temperatures as the spaces between them allow for continuous air flow.

Foundation Layer – A thin layer of high-density polyfoam is found at the base of the mattress, with the major use of cradling the pocketed coils and providing a solid foundation for the entire mattress.

Firmness

After having a look at the construction of the DreamCloud, let us talk about the firmness and texture. I started off by putting light hand pressure into the bed and instantly felt the soft foam of the quilted cover and first layers. My hands sunk into the material and I could feel some instantaneous pressure relief. Pushing in further, I started to interact with all the pocketed coils beneath and experienced a pleasant lift from these springs.

At this point I’d like to note that individuals of different body types and shapes will feel firmness differently. As opposed to giving only my view on the general firmness level of this mattress, I enlisted three additional individuals to present their view too. This will provide you with a better sense of the firmness range you may see from the bed.

firmness test-1

As you can see in the chart above, the testers were pretty much in agreement about the stability of the DreamCloud, giving it a mean rating of 7.75. Compare this to the market norm of 6.5 for moderate firmness and it is apparent that this bed is really firm.

I personally gave the mattress a 7.5 and concur with the rest of the testers that it’s definitely a solid mattress. At the same time you’ll feel some slight sinking from the plush foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils in the center will lift you from the mattress and make you feel like you’re sleeping on top of this mattress.

Pressure Map

As opposed to simply describing the feel of the DreamCloud for you, I chose to give a visual representation of where somebody may feel pressure points shape while lying on the mattress. To do so, I placed a pressure map above the bed and lied on my backside, and tummy. You can find the outcomes on the picture below where pressure is denoted from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).

pressure map-1

Back – When on my back, my weight was equally distributed across the mattress, so I didn’t feel like I was sinking into the mattress in any way. The quilted cover provided quality relief in my lumbar region and the pocketed coils helped lift me from the bed and keep my spine in alignment.

Side – As you can see in the chart above, once I rolled onto my side, I started to feel pressure forming at my shoulders and hips. However, I felt supported and the top foam layers alleviated what discomfort I felt in this position.

Stomach – Switching over to my belly, I believed that the DreamCloud did a great job of lifting my hips up and from the bed, which is key for stomach sleepers. I should mention that I managed to transition across these positions with relative ease.

Motion Transfer

If you plan on sharing your bed with a spouse, you’ll want to find out what it will feel like if the other individual crawls out of bed in the morning or tosses around during the nighttime. This next test is intended to demonstrate the intensity of motion that’s detectable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. Nectar vs Lull vs Dreamcloud

To illustrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 pound steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and quantified the disturbance it caused: the larger the lines, the larger the disturbance.

The DreamCloud demonstrates a little bit of disturbance for the 4 inch drop, which simulates somebody tossing around and adjusting their position on the opposite side of the mattress. While the 8 and 12 inch drops show slightly larger spikes, I’d still consider the mattress to be pretty good at isolating movement, thanks to its individually wrapped coils. This means that you’re not likely to be too disturbed by your bed partner’s midnight shimmies, which makes this a great option for couples.

Sinkage Test

When buying a new bed, the majority of people wish to know whether they will feel as though they’re sinking”into” the mattress or lying “on top” of it. To picture this sinkage, I put 4 balls of different sizes and densities (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 pound steel ball, a 50 pound medicine ball, and a 100 pound medicine ball) on the mattress then measured how much they compressed the surface.

The variations in size, density and weight are meant to mimic distinct body parts and different sized sleepers. Nectar vs Lull vs Dreamcloud

6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.

10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.

50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.

100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.

While you’re likely to encounter some instant sinkage in the soft foam at the top, by the time you sink through those layers, you’ll find the wrapped coils and experience amazing support. This combination will interest a wide range of sleepers, but will suit back and stomach sleepers in particular.

Edge Support

If you are going to share your mattress with a spouse and will need to use the whole surface area of the mattress, then it is going to be crucial that you think about the amount of edge support it’ll give you.

I am especially interested to determine whether the DreamCloud will suffer the same fate as other compacted bed-in-a-box mattresses which fail to fulfill the edge support of more traditional innerspring versions.

Laying on my back, I felt as supported at the edge of the mattress as I did in the middle. Pressing closer to the side, I felt a little compression due to the top foam layers, but nothing overly dramatic.

Shifting to my side, I noticed compression in the foam layers, but it did not carry over to the coil system beneath. This system, together with the polyfoam edge support round the mattress, did a great job of supporting my weight.

In this position, I wished to simulate what it’d feel like to be sitting on top of the mattress in the morning when you’re tying your shoes and getting ready for the day. A lot of foam mattresses undergo severe compression in this position, but the DreamCloud actually held up fairly good.
