From the tufted cashmere cover that gives good airflow, to the gel memory foam at the uppermost comfort layer, the DreamCloud was made to promote a cooler night’s sleep. Resting below are a mix of memory foam and latex layers, meaning this mattress includes better quality relaxation materials than most other hybrid beds.

Construction Nectar vs Dreamcloud Mattress
The DreamCloud has a tall profile for a mattress at a humongous 15 inches. The eight-layer structure is broken down into foam and wrapped coil components, which operate in tandem to provide the sleeper with a firm innerspring lift and plenty of comfy pressure relief.
Given all of the distinct materials at play , I’m stoked to get into these layers to understand how well they interact together. Nectar vs Dreamcloud Mattress
Cover – The cover is composed of a cashmere and polyester blend for a luxuriously soft feel up top. It’s also quilted with memory foam, which supplies the sleeper with immediate relaxation.
Foam Layers – Below the cover, you’ll find three thin layers of foam. While these segments are soft to the touch and provide some satisfying sinkage, they also react quickly to pressure, so that you won’t feel stuck in the mattress. The center of the three layers is particularly essential for the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it’s comprised of perforated latex foam. Latex generally is great at releasing heat, so the addition of those tiny ventilations promotes more cooling.
Pocketed Coils – The base layer of foam transitions into the firmer support section of the mattress, which is made up of a pocketed coil system. These individually wrapped springs give the bed excellent rebound and assist to disperse motion throughout the mattress. The coils also aid in moderating temperature as the distances between them permit continuous air flow.
Foundation Layer – A thin layer of high-density polyfoam is found in the base of the mattress, with the main function of cradling the pocketed coils and providing a sound foundation for the whole mattress.
After having a look at the construction of the DreamCloud, let us talk about the firmness and feel. I started off by putting light hand pressure into the mattress and immediately felt the soft foam of the quilted cover and first layers. My hands sunk into the material and I could feel some instant pressure relief. Pushing in farther, I started to interact with the pocketed coils below and experienced a pleasant lift from these springs.
Now I’d like to note that individuals of different body types and shapes will feel firmness differently. Rather than giving just my opinion on the general firmness level of the DreamCloud, I invited three additional individuals to present their opinion as well. This will give you a better sense of the firmness range you can see from the bed.
As you can find in the chart above, the testers were pretty much in agreement about the stability of the mattress, giving it a mean rating of 7.75. Compared to the market norm of 6.5 for moderate firmness and it’s clear that this mattress is really firm.
I personally gave the bed a 7.5 and agree with the rest of the testers that it’s definitely a solid bed. At the same time you’ll feel some small sinking from the plush foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils at the center will lift you out of this bed and make you feel like you’re sleeping on top of this mattress.
Rather than just describing the feel of this mattress for you, I chose to give a visual representation of where someone may feel pressure points form while lying on the mattress. To do this, I put a pressure map above the mattress and lied on my back, side, and stomach. You can see the results on the picture below where pressure is denoted from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back – Once on my backside, my weight was equally distributed throughout the mattress, so I did not feel like I was sinking into the bed in any way. The quilted cover gave quality relief in my lumbar area and also the pocketed coils helped lift me out of the bed and keep my back in alignment.
Side – As you can see in the graph above, once I rolled onto my side, I started to feel pressure forming at my shoulders and hips. But, I still felt supported while the top foam layers relieved what distress I felt in this position.
Stomach – Switching over to my stomach, I thought the DreamCloud did a great job of lifting my hips up and out of the mattress, which is crucial for stomach sleepers. I should mention that I was able to transition across these positions with relative ease.
If you intend on sharing your mattress with a partner, you will want to find out what it’ll feel like if another person crawls out of bed in the break of dawn or tosses around during the nighttime. This next test is meant to demonstrate the high level of movement that is detectable from 1 side of the mattress to another. Nectar vs Dreamcloud Mattress
To illustrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 lb steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and then quantified the disturbance it caused: the bigger the lines, the bigger the disturbance.
The DreamCloud shows a little bit of disturbance for the four inch drop, which simulates somebody rolling around and adjusting their position on the opposite side of the bed. While the 8 and 12 inch drops reveal slightly larger spikes, I would still regard the mattress to be pretty good at isolating movement, thanks to its individually wrapped coils. This indicates that you’re unlikely to be too disturbed by your bed partner’s midnight shimmies, making this an awesome solution for couples.
When purchasing a new bed, the majority of people wish to know whether they’ll feel as though they’re sinking”into” the bed or lying “on top” of it. To visualize this sinkage, I placed four balls of varying sizes and densities (a 6 pound medicine ball, a 10 lb steel ball, a 50 lb medicine ball, along with a 100 lb medicine ball) on the mattress then quantified how much they compressed the surface.
The variations in size, density and weight are meant to simulate different body parts and different sized sleepers. Nectar vs Dreamcloud Mattress
– 6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.
– 10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
– 50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
– 100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.
While you’re going to encounter some instant sinkage in the soft foam at the top, by the time you sink through these layers, you’ll hit the wrapped coils and experience fantastic support. This combo will interest a vast assortment of sleepers, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers the most.
If you’re going to share your bed with a spouse and need to use the whole surface area of the mattress, then it is likely to be crucial that you consider the amount of edge support it’ll provide.
I’m particularly interested to see whether the DreamCloud will suffer the same fate as other compressed bed-in-a-box mattresses which fail to live up to the edge support of more traditional innerspring versions.
Lying on my back, I felt just as supported in the edge of the mattress as I did at the middle. Pressing closer to the side, I felt a little compression due to the highest foam layers, but nothing overly dramatic.
Shifting to my side, I once again noticed compression in the foam layers, but it didn’t carry over into the wrapped coil system beneath. This system, along with the polyfoam edge support around the mattress, did a good job of supporting my weight.
In this position, I wished to simulate what it would feel like to be sitting on the bed in the morning when you’re tying your shoes and getting ready for work. A lot of foam mattresses undergo a lot of compression in this position, but the DreamCloud really held up fairly well.
