Because it’s a hybrid mattress, the DreamCloud fulfills many of our criteria for what a quality mattress must provide. With 8 unique layers of comfort and support, the DreamCloud utilizes all the proper materials in its construction. Mattress Review Dreamcloud
From the tufted cashmere cover that provides good airflow, to the gel memory foam in the uppermost comfort layer, the DreamCloud was made to deliver a cooler night’s sleep. Below that are a mixture of polyurethane foam and latex layers, meaning this bed includes better quality comfort materials than most other hybrid beds.
Even though it uses multiple memory foam layers, there is no hug or significant shaping to the mattress. If you are looking to sink into a mattress, move on from the DreamCloud.
A pocketed coil support core keeps you aligned all night long, especially for all you back sleepers on the market.

Construction Mattress Review Dreamcloud
The DreamCloud features a tall profile for a mattress at a whopping 15 inches. The eight-layer structure is broken down into foam and wrapped coil parts, which operate in tandem to supply the sleeper with a firm innerspring lift and lots of comfortable pressure relief.
Given all the different materials at play , I am stoked to get into these layers to see how well they interact together. Mattress Review Dreamcloud
Cover – The cover is made up of a cashmere and polyester blend for a soft texture up top. Additionally, it is built with memory foam, which supplies the sleeper with immediate relaxation.
Foam Layers – Below the cover, you’ll discover three thin layers of polyurethane. While these segments are soft to the touch and provide some satisfying sinkage, they also respond quickly to pressure, so you won’t feel trapped in the mattress. The center of the three layers is especially essential because of the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it is comprised of perforated latex foam. Latex generally is great at releasing heat, so the inclusion of those tiny ventilations encourages even more cooling.
Pocketed Coils – The base layer of foam transitions to the firmer support segment of the mattress, which is made up of a pocketed coil system. These individually wrapped springs give the mattress excellent bounce and help to disperse motion throughout the structure. The coils also assist in regulating temperatures as the distances between them permit steady air flow.
Foundation Layer – A thin layer of high-density polyfoam lies at the bottom of the mattress, with the main use of cradling the pocketed coils and offering a sound foundation for the entire mattress.
After taking a peek at the construction of the DreamCloud, let’s chat about the firmness and feel. I started off by applying light hand pressure to the mattress and instantly felt the soft foam of the quilted cover and top layers. My hand flowed into the material and I could feel some instant pressure relief. Pushing in further, I started to interact with all the pocketed coils beneath and experienced a nice lift from the springs.
At this point I want to note that people of different body shapes and types will feel firmness differently. As opposed to giving just my opinion on the overall firmness level of this mattress, I invited three additional people to present their view too. This will provide you with a much better sense of the firmness range you can expect from the bed.
As you can see in the graph above, the testers were in agreement about the firmness of this mattress, giving it a mean score of 7.75. Compare this to the industry standard of 6.5 for medium firmness and it’s apparent that this mattress is pretty firm.
Personally, I gave the bed a 7.5 and agree with the rest of the testers that it is definitely a solid bed. At the same time you’ll feel some small sinking from the lavish foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils at the core will lift you from the mattress and make you feel like you’re sleeping on top of this mattress.
Rather than just describing the feel of this DreamCloud to you, I chose to provide a visual representation of where someone may feel pressure points form while lying on the mattress. To do this, I placed a pressure map on top of the mattress and lied on my backside, and stomach. You can see the results on the picture below where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back – Once on my backside, my weight was equally distributed throughout the mattress, so I didn’t feel as though I was sinking into the bed in any way. The quilted cover gave quality relief at my lumbar region and also the pocketed coils helped to lift me out of the mattress and keep my back in alignment.
Side – As you can see in the graph above, once I rolled onto my side, I began to feel pressure forming in my hips and shoulders. However, I still felt supported and the top foam layers alleviated what discomfort I felt in this position.
Stomach – Shifting over to my belly, I believed the DreamCloud did a great job of lifting my hips upward and out of the bed, which is key for stomach sleepers. I should mention that I managed to shift across these positions with comparative ease.
If you plan on sharing your mattress with a spouse, you will want to find out what it will feel like if the other individual crawls out of bed in the break of dawn or tosses around during the night. This next test is meant to demonstrate the intensity of motion that’s detectable from one side of the mattress to another. Mattress Review Dreamcloud
To illustrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 pound steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and measured the disturbance it generated: the bigger the lines, the bigger the disturbance.
The DreamCloud shows a little bit of disturbance for the 4 inch drop, which simulates somebody rolling around and adjusting their position on the other side of the bed. While the 8 and 12 inch drops reveal slightly bigger spikes, I’d still regard the mattress to be quite good at isolating movement, thanks to the individually wrapped coils. This indicates that you’re not likely to be overly disturbed by your bed mate’s midnight shimmies, which makes this an awesome solution for couples.
When purchasing a new bed, most men and women want to know whether they’ll feel as though they’re sinking”into” the mattress or lying “on top” of it. To picture this sinkage, I put four balls of different sizes and densities (a 6 pound medicine ball, a 10 pound steel ball, a 50 lb medicine ball, along with a 100 pound medicine ball) on the mattress and measured how much they compressed the surface.
The variations in size, density and weight are supposed to simulate different body parts and different sized sleepers. Mattress Review Dreamcloud
– 6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.
– 10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
– 50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
– 100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.
Even though you’re going to experience some immediate sinkage from the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through these layers, you’ll hit the wrapped coils and experience fantastic support. This combination will appeal to a vast assortment of sleepers, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers in particular.
If you are going to share your bed with a partner and will need to utilize the whole surface area of the mattress, it is going to be crucial for you to think about the amount of edge support it’ll give you.
I am especially interested to see whether the DreamCloud will endure the same fate as other compacted bed-in-a-box mattresses that fail to fulfill the edge support of more traditional innerspring versions.
Lying on my back, I felt just as supported at the edge of the mattress as I did at the middle. Pressing closer to the side, I felt a little compression because of the top foam layers, but nothing too dramatic.
Shifting to my side, I once again noticed compression in the foam layers, but it did not carry over to the coil system under. This system, along with the polyfoam edge support round the mattress, did a great job of supporting my body.
In this position, I wished to simulate what it would feel like to be sitting on top of the bed in the morning when you are tying your shoes and getting ready for the day. A lot of foam mattresses experience a lot of compression in this position, but the DreamCloud really held up fairly good.
