Because it’s a hybrid mattress, the DreamCloud meets many of our standards for what a quality mattress must provide. With 8 unique layers of support and comfort, the DreamCloud utilizes all the proper materials in its construction. How Does The Dreamcloud Rank With Other Mattresses
From the tufted cashmere cover that gives great airflow, to the gel memory foam at the uppermost comfort layer, the DreamCloud was made to promote a cooler night’s sleep. Below that are a mix of polyurethane foam and latex layers, meaning this mattress includes better quality comfort materials than most other hybrid mattresses.

Even though it utilizes multiple memory foam layers, there is not any hug or significant shaping to the mattress. If you are searching to sink into a mattress, then move on from the DreamCloud.

A pocketed coil support core keeps you aligned all night long, especially for all you back sleepers out there.

Construction How Does The Dreamcloud Rank With Other Mattresses

The DreamCloud has an astoundingly tall profile for a mattress at a humongous 15 inches. The eight-layer construction is broken down to foam and wrapped coil components, which work in tandem to provide the sleeper with a firm innerspring lift and lots of comfy pressure relief.

Given all the distinct materials at play , I am stoked to dive into these layers to see how well they interact with one another. How Does The Dreamcloud Rank With Other Mattresses

construction-1

Cover – The cover is made up of a cashmere and polyester mix for a soft texture up top. It’s also built with memory foam, which supplies the sleeper with immediate pressure relief.

Foam Layers – Under the cover, you will discover three thin layers of foam. While these segments are soft to the touch and supply some satisfying sinkage, they also react quickly to pressure, so you won’t feel stuck in the bed. The middle of the three layers is particularly important for the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it’s made up of perforated latex foam. Latex in general is great at releasing heat, so the addition of these tiny ventilations promotes more cooling.

Pocketed Coils – The bottom layer of polyurethane transitions into the firmer support section of this mattress, which is made up of a pocketed coil system. These individually wrapped springs provide the mattress excellent bounce and help to disperse motion throughout the structure. The coils also assist in moderating temperature as the spaces between them allow for continuous air flow.

Foundation Layer – A thin layer of high-density polyfoam is found at the bottom of the mattress, with the main function of cradling the pocketed coils and offering a sound foundation for the entire mattress.

Firmness

After taking a look at the construction of the DreamCloud, let us talk about the firmness and texture. I started off by applying mild hand pressure to the mattress and instantly felt the soft foam of the quilted cover and first layers. My hands flowed into the material and I could feel some instant pressure relief. Pushing in further, I started to interact with all the pocketed coils below and experienced a pleasant lift from these springs.

Now I want to let you know that people of different body shapes and types will feel firmness differently. As opposed to giving only my view on the general firmness level of the mattress, I invited three other individuals to present their opinion too. This will provide you with a better sense of the firmness range you can see from the bed.

firmness test-1

As you can find in the graph above, the testers were in agreement about the stability of this mattress, giving it an average rating of 7.75. Compare this to the market norm of 6.5 for moderate firmness and it’s apparent that this bed is pretty firm.

I personally gave the mattress a 7.5 and agree with the other testers that it is definitely a solid bed. While you’ll feel some slight sinking because of the plush foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils at the center will lift you out of the bed and make you feel as though you’re sleeping on top of this mattress.

Pressure Map

As opposed to simply describing the feel of the DreamCloud for you, I chose to provide a visual representation of where somebody may feel pressure points shape while lying on the mattress. To do so, I placed a pressure map above the mattress and lied on my back, side, and stomach. You can see the outcomes on the picture below where pressure is denoted from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).

pressure map-1

Back – When on my backside, my weight was equally distributed throughout the mattress, so I did not feel like I was sinking into the mattress at all. The quilted cover provided quality relief in my lumbar region and also the pocketed coils helped to lift me out of the bed and keep my spine in alignment.

Side – As you can see in the graph above, once I rolled onto my side, I started to feel pressure forming at my hips and shoulders. But, I still felt supported while the top foam layers relieved what distress I felt in this position.

Stomach – Shifting over to my stomach, I thought that the DreamCloud did a great job of lifting my hips up and out of the mattress, which can be crucial for stomach sleepers. I should mention that I was able to shift across these positions with relative ease.

Motion Transfer

If you plan on sharing your mattress with a partner, you will want to know what it’ll feel like when another person crawls out of bed in the break of dawn or tosses around at night. This next test is intended to demonstrate the high level of motion that is detectable from one side of the mattress to the other. How Does The Dreamcloud Rank With Other Mattresses

To show you this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 lb steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and measured the disturbance it caused: the larger the lines, the larger the disturbance.

The DreamCloud demonstrates a small amount of disturbance for the four inch drop, which simulates someone rolling around and adjusting their position on the opposite side of the mattress. While the 8 and 12 inch drops show slightly bigger spikes, I would still regard the mattress to be pretty good at isolating motion, as a result of the individually wrapped coils. This means you’re not likely to be too disturbed by your bed partner’s midnight shimmies, making this a great solution for couples.

Sinkage Test

When purchasing a new mattress, most people want to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking”into” the bed or laying “on top” of it. To picture this sinkage, I placed 4 balls of varying sizes and densities (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 lb steel ball, a 50 lb medicine ball, along with a 100 pound medicine ball) on the mattress then measured how much they compressed the surface.

The variations in size, density and weight are meant to simulate different body parts and different sized sleepers. How Does The Dreamcloud Rank With Other Mattresses

6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.

10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.

50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.

100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.

Even though you’re going to encounter some instant sinkage from the soft foam at the top, by the time you sink through these layers, you’ll hit the wrapped coils and experience fantastic support. This combo will appeal to a vast assortment of sleepers, but will suit stomach and back sleepers in particular.

Edge Support

If you’re going to share your bed with a partner and will need to utilize the whole surface area of the mattress, then it’s likely to be crucial that you think about the amount of edge support it will give you.

I’m especially interested to see if the DreamCloud will suffer the same fate as other compacted bed-in-a-box mattresses that fail to fulfill the edge support of more conventional innerspring models.

Laying on my back, I felt just as supported at the edge of the mattress as I did in the middle. Pressing closer to the side, I experienced a bit of compression because of the top foam layers, but nothing too dramatic.

Shifting to my side, I once again noticed compression in the foam layers, but it did not carry over into the coil system below. This system, along with the polyfoam edge support around the mattress, did a good job of supporting my body.

In this position, I wanted to simulate what it’d feel like to be sitting on the bed in the morning when you’re tying your shoes and getting ready for the day. A good deal of foam mattresses experience a lot of compression in this position, but the DreamCloud actually held up fairly good.
