As a hybrid mattress, the DreamCloud fulfills a number of our criteria for what a excellent bed should provide. With eight unique layers of comfort and support, the DreamCloud utilizes all of the right materials in its construction. Dreamcloud Writer
From the tufted cashmere cover that provides great airflow, to the gel memory foam in the uppermost comfort layer, the DreamCloud is designed to promote a cooler night’s sleep. Resting below are a mix of memory foam and latex layers, meaning this mattress includes better quality relaxation materials than most other hybrid beds.
Despite the fact that it utilizes multiple memory foam layers, there is no hug or significant shaping to the bed. If you’re searching to sink into a mattress, move on from the DreamCloud.
A pocketed coil support core keeps you aligned all night long, especially for all you back sleepers out there.

Construction Dreamcloud Writer
The DreamCloud has a tall profile for a mattress at a humongous 15 inches. The eight-layer structure is broken down into foam and wrapped coil components, which work in tandem to supply the sleeper with a firm innerspring lift and lots of comfortable pressure relief.
Given all the distinct materials at play here, I’m stoked to dive into these layers to see how well they interact together. Dreamcloud Writer
Cover – The cover is composed of a cashmere and polyester mix for a soft feel up top. It’s also quilted with memory foam, which provides the sleeper with immediate pressure relief.
Foam Layers – Below the cover, you’ll discover three thin layers of polyurethane. While these sections are soft to the touch and provide some pleasing sinkage, they also respond quickly to pressure, so that you won’t feel stuck in the bed. The center of these three layers is especially important for the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it is comprised of perforated latex foam. Latex in general is great at dissipating heat, so the addition of these small ventilations promotes more cooling.
Pocketed Coils – The bottom layer of polyurethane transitions to the firmer support segment of this mattress, which is composed of a pocketed coil system. These individually wrapped springs give the bed excellent rebound and assist disperse motion throughout the mattress. The coils also assist in regulating temperatures as the spaces between them allow for steady air flow.
Foundation Layer – A thin layer of high-density polyfoam is found at the base of the mattress, with the main use of cradling the pocketed coils and providing a solid foundation for the entire mattress.
After having a peek at the construction of the DreamCloud, let us talk about the firmness and feel. I started off by applying light hand pressure into the mattress and immediately felt the soft foam of the quilted cover and top layers. My hand sunk into the material and I could feel some instantaneous pressure relief. Pushing in farther, I began to interact with the pocketed coils below and experienced a nice lift from these springs.
At this point I want to note that people of different body shapes and types will feel firmness differently. As opposed to giving only my opinion on the general firmness level of this mattress, I invited three additional individuals to give their opinion too. This will provide you with a better sense of the firmness range you can expect from the bed.
As you can see in the graph above, the testers were pretty much in agreement about the firmness of this DreamCloud, giving it an average score of 7.75. Compared to the market norm of 6.5 for moderate firmness and it’s apparent that this bed is really firm.
I personally gave the mattress a 7.5 and agree with the rest of the testers that it’s definitely a good bed. At the same time you’ll feel some small sinking from the plush foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils in the core will lift you from this bed and make you feel like you’re sleeping on top of the mattress.
Rather than simply explaining the feel of the DreamCloud to you, I chose to provide a visual representation of where someone may feel pressure points form while lying on the mattress. To do this, I put a pressure map above the bed and lied on my back, side, and tummy. You can see the outcomes on the picture below where pressure is denoted from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back – Once on my backside, my weight was evenly dispersed throughout the mattress, therefore I did not feel like I was sinking into the bed in any way. The quilted cover gave quality relief in my lumbar region and the pocketed coils helped lift me out of the mattress and keep my back in alignment.
Side – As you can see in the graph above, once I rolled onto my side, I began to feel pressure forming at my hips and shoulders. But, I still felt supported while the top foam layers alleviated what distress I felt in this position.
Stomach – Switching over to my stomach, I thought the DreamCloud did a fantastic job of lifting my hips up and from the bed, which is crucial for stomach sleepers. I should mention that I managed to transition across these positions with comparative ease.
If you plan on sharing your bed with a partner, you’ll want to know what it’ll feel like when the other individual crawls out of bed in the morning or tosses around during the nighttime. This next test is meant to demonstrate the high level of movement that’s detectable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. Dreamcloud Writer
To show you this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 pound steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and quantified the disturbance it generated: the larger the lines, the bigger the disturbance.
The DreamCloud demonstrates a little bit of disturbance for the 4 inch drop, which simulates someone rolling around and adjusting their position on the other side of the bed. While the 8 and 12 inch drops reveal slightly bigger spikes, I would still consider the mattress to be pretty good at isolating movement, as a result of the individually wrapped coils. This indicates that you’re unlikely to be overly disturbed by your bed partner’s midnight shimmies, which makes this an awesome option for couples.
While buying a new mattress, most people want to know whether they’ll feel as though they’re sinking”into” the bed or lying “on top” of it. To visualize this sinkage, I put 4 balls of different sizes and densities (a 6 pound medicine ball, a 10 lb steel ball, a 50 pound medicine ball, and a 100 lb medicine ball) on the mattress and measured how much they compacted the top.
The variations in size, density and weight are supposed to simulate distinct body parts and different sized sleepers. Dreamcloud Writer
– 6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.
– 10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
– 50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
– 100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.
Even though you’re likely to experience some immediate sinkage from the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through these layers, you are going to find the wrapped coils and feel fantastic support. This combo will interest a vast assortment of sleepers, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers the most.
If you’re going to share your bed with a partner and will need to use the entire surface area of the mattress, then it’s going to be crucial for you to consider the amount of edge support it’ll give you.
I’m especially interested to see whether the DreamCloud will endure the exact same fate as other compacted bed-in-a-box mattresses that fail to live up to the edge support of more traditional innerspring versions.
Lying on my back, I felt just as supported in the edge of the bed as I did at the middle. Pressing closer to the side, I experienced a little compression because of the highest foam layers, but nothing too dramatic.
Changing to my side, I noticed compression in the foam layers, but it didn’t carry over to the coil system below. This system, together with the polyfoam edge support round the mattress, did a great job of supporting my body.
In this position, I wished to simulate what it would feel like to be sitting on top of the mattress in the morning when you are tying your shoes and getting ready for work. A lot of foam mattresses undergo severe compression in this position, but the DreamCloud actually held up fairly well.
