Construction Dreamcloud Where To Try
The DreamCloud features a tall profile for a mattress at a humongous 15 inches. The eight-layer construction is broken down to foam and wrapped coil components, which work in tandem to supply the sleeper with a firm innerspring lift and lots of comfortable pressure relief.
Given all the different materials at play here, I’m stoked to dive into these layers to understand how well they interact together. Dreamcloud Where To Try
Cover – The cover is made up of a cashmere and polyester mix for a soft texture up top. It’s also quilted with memory foam, which provides the sleeper with immediate relaxation.
Foam Layers – Under the cover, you’ll discover three thin layers of foam. While these segments are soft to the touch and supply some pleasing sinkage, they also respond quickly to pressure, so you won’t feel trapped in the bed. The middle of the three layers is especially essential for the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it’s made up of perforated latex foam. Latex generally is great at releasing heat, so the addition of these tiny ventilations promotes more cooling.
Pocketed Coils – The bottom layer of foam transitions into the firmer support section of the mattress, which is composed of a pocketed coil system. These individually wrapped springs give the bed excellent rebound and assist disperse motion throughout the mattress. The coils also aid in moderating temperatures as the distances between them permit continuous air flow.
Foundation Layer – A thin layer of high-density polyfoam is found in the bottom of the mattress, with the major use of cradling the pocketed coils and offering a sound foundation for the whole mattress.
After taking a look at the construction of the DreamCloud, let us talk about the firmness and texture. I started off by putting mild hand pressure to the mattress and instantly felt the soft foam of the quilted cover and top layers. My hand flowed into the material and I could sense some instant pressure relief. Pushing in further, I began to interact with all the pocketed coils below and experienced a pleasant lift from the springs.
At this point I’d like to note that individuals of different body shapes and types will feel firmness differently. Rather than giving just my opinion on the overall firmness level of the mattress, I enlisted three other individuals to give their view too. This will give you a much better feeling of the firmness range you can see from the bed.
As you can see in the graph above, the testers were pretty much in agreement about the firmness of the DreamCloud, giving it a mean rating of 7.75. Compared to the industry norm of 6.5 for medium firmness and it is clear that this bed is pretty firm.
I personally gave the bed a 7.5 and agree with the rest of the testers that it’s definitely a good bed. At the same time you’ll feel some small sinking from the lavish foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils at the core will lift you out of this bed and make you feel as though you’re sleeping on top of this mattress.
Rather than just describing the feel of the mattress to you, I chose to provide a visual representation of where somebody may feel pressure points form while lying on it. To do so, I put a pressure map on top of the mattress and lied on my back, side, and tummy. You can see the outcomes on the image below where pressure is denoted from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back – When on my back, my weight was evenly dispersed across the mattress, therefore I did not feel as though I was sinking into the bed at all. The quilted cover gave quality relief at my lumbar area and the pocketed coils helped lift me out of the mattress and keep my spine in alignment.
Side – As you can see in the chart above, once I rolled onto my side, I began to feel pressure forming at my shoulders and hips. But, I felt supported and the top foam layers alleviated what discomfort I felt in this position.
Stomach – Switching over to my belly, I thought the DreamCloud did a fantastic job of lifting my hips upward and from the mattress, which can be crucial for stomach sleepers. I must mention that I was able to transition across these positions with relative ease.
If you intend on sharing your mattress with a spouse, you’ll want to find out what it’ll feel like if another person crawls out of bed in the break of dawn or tosses around at night. This next test is meant to demonstrate the intensity of movement that’s detectable from one side of the mattress to the other. Dreamcloud Where To Try
To show you this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 lb steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and quantified the disturbance it caused: the bigger the lines, the bigger the disturbance.
The DreamCloud demonstrates a little bit of disturbance for the 4 inch drop, which simulates someone tossing around and adjusting their position on the other side of the mattress. While the 8 and 12 inch drops show slightly larger spikes, I would still regard the mattress to be quite good at isolating movement, as a result of its individually wrapped coils. This means that you’re unlikely to be overly disturbed by your mattress partner’s midnight shimmies, which makes this an awesome option for couples.
While buying a new mattress, the majority of men and women wish to know whether they’ll feel as though they’re sinking”into” the bed or lying “on top” of it. To picture this sinkage, I placed 4 balls of varying sizes and densities (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 lb steel ball, a 50 lb medicine ball, along with a 100 pound medicine ball) on the mattress and measured how much they compacted the top.
The variations in size, weight and density are supposed to mimic different body parts and different sized sleepers. Dreamcloud Where To Try
– 6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.
– 10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
– 50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
– 100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.
While you’re likely to experience some instant sinkage from the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through those layers, you’ll find the wrapped coils and feel fantastic support. This combination will appeal to a wide range of sleepers, but will suit stomach and back sleepers in particular.
If you’re going to share your mattress with a partner and will need to utilize the whole surface area of the mattress, then it’s likely to be crucial that you consider the amount of edge support it will give you.
I’m especially interested to see whether the DreamCloud will suffer the same fate as other compressed bed-in-a-box mattresses that fail to live up to the edge support of more conventional innerspring models.
Lying on my back, I felt as supported in the edge of the bed as I did at the center. Pressing closer to the side, I felt a little compression because of the top foam layers, but nothing too dramatic.
Shifting to my side, I noticed compression in the foam layers, but it didn’t carry over to the wrapped coil system under. This system, together with the polyfoam edge support round the mattress, did a great job of supporting my body.
In this position, I wanted to simulate what it would feel like to be sitting on top of the mattress in the morning when you are lacing up your shoes and getting ready for the day. A lot of foam mattresses experience a lot of compression in this position, but the DreamCloud really held up fairly well.
