Construction Dreamcloud Warranty Return
The DreamCloud has a tall profile for a mattress at a whopping 15 inches. The eight-layer construction is broken down into foam and wrapped coil parts, which work in tandem to provide the sleeper with a firm innerspring lift and lots of comfy pressure relief.
Given all the different materials at play , I’m stoked to dive into these layers to understand how well they interact together. Dreamcloud Warranty Return
Cover – The cover is composed of a cashmere and polyester blend for a soft feel up top. Additionally, it is built with memory foam, which provides the sleeper with instant relaxation.
Foam Layers – Below the cover, you will find three thin layers of polyurethane. While these segments are soft to the touch and supply some pleasing sinkage, they also respond quickly to pressure, so that you won’t feel trapped in the mattress. The center of the three layers is especially essential for the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it is comprised of perforated latex foam. Latex generally is great at dissipating heat, so the addition of those tiny ventilations promotes more cooling.
Pocketed Coils – The bottom layer of foam transitions to the firmer support segment of the mattress, which is made up of a pocketed coil system. These individually wrapped springs provide the mattress excellent bounce and help disperse motion throughout the structure. The coils also assist in regulating temperatures as the spaces between them allow for continuous air flow.
Foundation Layer – A thin layer of high-density polyfoam lies at the bottom of the mattress, with the major function of cradling the pocketed coils and offering a solid foundation for the whole mattress.
After having a peek at the construction of the DreamCloud, let’s chat about the firmness and texture. I started off by putting mild hand pressure to the mattress and immediately felt the soft foam of the quilted cover and top layers. My hand sunk into the material and I could sense some instantaneous pressure relief. Pushing in further, I started to interact with the pocketed coils below and experienced a nice lift from the springs.
At this point I want to note that individuals of different body shapes and types will sense firmness differently. Rather than giving just my opinion on the general firmness level of this mattress, I enlisted three additional people to give their view too. This will give you a better feeling of the firmness range you may expect from the bed.
As you can see in the graph above, the testers were pretty much in agreement about the firmness of this DreamCloud, giving it an average rating of 7.75. Compare this to the industry standard of 6.5 for moderate firmness and it’s clear that this bed is pretty firm.
I personally gave the bed a 7.5 and agree with the other testers that it is definitely a solid bed. While you’ll feel some slight sinking from the plush foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils at the core will lift you out of the mattress and make you feel as though you’re sleeping on top of this mattress.
Rather than just describing the feel of this DreamCloud for you, I wanted to give a visual representation of where somebody may feel pressure points form while lying on it. To do this, I placed a pressure map on top of the mattress and lied on my backside, and stomach. You can see the outcomes on the image below where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back – Once on my back, my weight was equally distributed across the mattress, so I did not feel as though I was sinking into the bed in any way. The quilted cover gave quality relief at my lumbar area and the pocketed coils helped lift me out of the mattress and keep my spine in alignment.
Side – As you can see in the graph above, once I rolled onto my side, I began to feel pressure forming in my hips and shoulders. However, I still felt supported while the top foam layers alleviated what distress I felt in this position.
Stomach – Switching over to my stomach, I thought the DreamCloud did a fantastic job of lifting my hips up and from the bed, which can be key for stomach sleepers. I must mention that I managed to transition across these positions with comparative ease.
If you intend on sharing your bed with a spouse, you will want to find out what it’ll feel like when another person crawls out of bed in the break of dawn or tosses around at nighttime. This next test is meant to demonstrate the high level of movement that’s detectable from one side of the mattress to another. Dreamcloud Warranty Return
To illustrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 pound steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and then quantified the disturbance it caused: the larger the lines, the larger the disturbance.
The DreamCloud shows a little bit of disturbance for the 4 inch drop, which simulates someone rolling around and adjusting their position on the opposite side of the mattress. While the 8 and 12 inch drops show slightly larger spikes, I would still consider the mattress to be pretty good at isolating movement, as a result of the individually wrapped coils. This indicates you’re not likely to be overly disturbed by your bed partner’s midnight shimmies, which makes this an awesome option for couples.
When purchasing a new bed, the majority of men and women want to know whether they will feel like they’re sinking”into” the bed or laying “on top” of it. To visualize this sinkage, I placed four balls of varying sizes and densities (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 lb steel ball, a 50 lb medicine ball, and a 100 lb medicine ball) on the mattress then measured how much they compacted the top.
The variations in size, weight and density are meant to mimic different body parts and different sized sleepers. Dreamcloud Warranty Return
– 6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.
– 10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
– 50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
– 100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.
While you’re likely to encounter some immediate sinkage in the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through these layers, you are going to hit the wrapped coils and experience amazing support. This combo will interest a vast range of sleepers, but will suit back and stomach sleepers the most.
If you’re going to share your bed with a partner and need to utilize the whole surface area of the mattress, it’s likely to be crucial that you consider the amount of edge support it will give you.
I’m especially interested to see whether the DreamCloud will suffer the exact same fate as other compressed bed-in-a-box mattresses which fail to live up to the edge support of more traditional innerspring versions.
Laying on my back, I felt as supported at the edge of the bed as I did at the middle. Pressing closer to the side, I felt a bit of compression due to the top foam layers, but nothing overly dramatic.
Shifting to my side, I noticed compression in the foam layers, but it didn’t carry over to the coil system below. This system, together with the polyfoam edge support round the mattress, did a good job of supporting my body.
In this position, I wished to simulate what it would feel like to be sitting on top of the bed in the morning when you are tying your shoes and getting ready for the day. A lot of foam mattresses undergo severe compression in this position, but the DreamCloud actually held up fairly good.
