As a hybrid mattress, the DreamCloud meets a number of our criteria for what a quality mattress should provide. With 8 unique layers of support and comfort, the DreamCloud uses all the proper materials in its construction. Dreamcloud vs Winkbed Reviews
From the tufted cashmere cover that gives good airflow, to the gel memory foam at the uppermost comfort layer, the DreamCloud is designed to deliver a cooler night’s sleep. Resting below are a mixture of memory foam and latex layers, meaning this mattress includes better quality comfort materials than most other hybrid beds.

Despite the fact that it utilizes multiple memory foam layers, there is no hug or significant contouring to the bed. If you are looking to sink into a mattress, proceed from the DreamCloud.

A pocketed coil support center keeps you aligned all night long, particularly so for all you back sleepers out there.

Construction Dreamcloud vs Winkbed Reviews

The DreamCloud features a tall profile for a mattress at a whopping 15 inches. The eight-layer structure is broken down into foam and wrapped coil components, which work in tandem to supply the sleeper with a firm innerspring lift and lots of comfortable pressure relief.

Given all the different materials at play here, I’m stoked to get into these layers to see how well they interact together. Dreamcloud vs Winkbed Reviews

construction

Cover – The cover is composed of a cashmere and polyester mix for a luxuriously soft feel up top. Additionally, it is built with memory foam, which supplies the sleeper with instant relaxation.

Foam Layers – Under the cover, you’ll find three thin layers of foam. While these sections are soft to the touch and provide some satisfying sinkage, they also react quickly to pressure, so you won’t feel trapped in the mattress. The middle of these three layers is particularly essential because of the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it is comprised of perforated latex foam. Latex in general is good at dissipating heat, so the addition of those tiny ventilations promotes even more cooling.

Pocketed Coils – The bottom layer of foam transitions into the firmer support section of this mattress, which is composed of a pocketed coil system. These individually wrapped springs give the bed excellent bounce and help to disperse motion throughout the mattress. The coils also assist in regulating temperature as the spaces between them allow for steady air flow.

Foundation Layer – A thin layer of high-density polyfoam lies at the bottom of the mattress, with the major function of cradling the pocketed coils and providing a solid foundation for the whole mattress.

Firmness

After taking a look at the construction of the DreamCloud, let’s chat about the firmness and feel. I started off by applying mild hand pressure into the bed and instantly felt the soft foam of the quilted cover and first layers. My hands flowed into the material and I could sense some instantaneous pressure relief. Pushing in farther, I started to interact with the pocketed coils below and experienced a pleasant lift from these springs.

Now I’d like to note that people of different body shapes and types will feel firmness differently. As opposed to giving only my view on the general firmness level of the mattress, I invited three additional people to give their view as well. This will give you a much better sense of the firmness range you may see from the bed.

firmness test

As you can see in the graph above, the testers were pretty much in agreement about the stability of the DreamCloud, giving it an average rating of 7.75. Compare this to the market standard of 6.5 for medium firmness and it is apparent that this bed is really firm.

Personally, I gave the bed a 7.5 and concur with the other testers that it’s definitely a good mattress. At the same time you’ll feel some small sinking because of the plush foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils in the center will lift you from the mattress and make you feel as though you’re sleeping on top of the mattress.

Pressure Map

As opposed to just describing the feel of the mattress for you, I wanted to provide a visual representation of where somebody may feel pressure points shape while lying on the mattress. To do so, I put a pressure map above the mattress and lied on my backside, and stomach. You can find the outcomes on the image below where pressure is denoted from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).

pressure map

Back – Once on my back, my weight was equally dispersed throughout the mattress, therefore I didn’t feel like I was sinking into the mattress in any way. The quilted cover gave quality relief in my lumbar area and also the pocketed coils helped to lift me out of the bed and keep my back in alignment.

Side – As you can see in the graph above, once I rolled onto my side, I began to feel pressure forming at my shoulders and hips. However, I still felt supported while the top foam layers relieved what distress I felt in this position.

Stomach – Shifting over to my stomach, I thought that the DreamCloud did a fantastic job of lifting my hips up and from the bed, which can be crucial for stomach sleepers. I should mention that I was able to transition across these positions with comparative ease.

Motion Transfer

If you plan on sharing your bed with a spouse, you will want to find out what it’ll feel like if another individual crawls out of bed in the break of dawn or tosses around during the night. This next test is meant to demonstrate the intensity of movement that’s detectable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. Dreamcloud vs Winkbed Reviews

To illustrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 lb steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and then measured the disturbance it generated: the bigger the lines, the larger the disturbance.

motion transfer test

The DreamCloud shows a little bit of disturbance for the 4 inch drop, which simulates somebody rolling around and adjusting their position on the other side of the mattress. While the 8 and 12 inch drops reveal slightly bigger spikes, I’d still regard the mattress to be quite good at isolating motion, as a result of its individually wrapped coils. This indicates you’re not likely to be too disturbed by your mattress partner’s midnight shimmies, which makes this an awesome option for couples.

Sinkage Test

While buying a new bed, most men and women want to know whether they will feel like they’re sinking”into” the mattress or lying “on top” of it. To visualize this sinkage, I placed four balls of different sizes and densities (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 lb steel ball, a 50 pound medicine ball, along with a 100 pound medicine ball) on the mattress then quantified how much they compacted the top.

The variations in size, density and weight are supposed to mimic different body parts and different sized sleepers. Dreamcloud vs Winkbed Reviews

sinkage test

6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.

10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.

50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.

100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.

While you’re going to encounter some instant sinkage from the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through these layers, you’ll find the wrapped coils and feel amazing support. This combination will appeal to a wide range of sleepers, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers in particular.

Edge Support

If you’re going to share your mattress with a spouse and will need to use the whole surface area of the mattress, then it’s likely to be crucial that you consider the amount of edge support it’ll provide.

I’m particularly interested to see whether the DreamCloud will endure the same fate as other compressed bed-in-a-box mattresses which fail to live up to the edge support of more traditional innerspring models.

Laying on my back, I felt as supported in the edge of the mattress as I did in the center. Going closer to the side, I experienced a little compression because of the top foam layers, but nothing overly dramatic.

Shifting to my side, I once again noticed compression in the foam layers, but it didn’t carry over to the wrapped coil system beneath. This system, along with the polyfoam edge support around the mattress, did a great job of supporting my body.

In this position, I wished to simulate what it would feel like to be sitting on the mattress in the morning when you’re tying your shoes and getting ready for work. A good deal of foam mattresses experience severe compression in this position, but the DreamCloud really held up fairly well.
