Because it’s a hybrid mattress, the DreamCloud meets many of our criteria for what a excellent mattress should provide. With 8 unique layers of support and comfort, the DreamCloud utilizes all of the proper materials in its construction. DreamCloud vs Sealy Hybrid
From the tufted cashmere cover that gives good airflow, to the gel memory foam in the uppermost comfort layer, the DreamCloud was made to promote a cooler night’s sleep. Resting below are a mixture of memory foam and latex layers, meaning this bed contains better quality comfort materials than most other hybrid mattresses.

Despite the fact that it utilizes multiple memory foam layers, there’s no hug or significant shaping to the mattress. If you are searching to sink into a mattress, then move on from the DreamCloud.

A pocketed coil support center keeps you aligned all night long, particularly for all you back sleepers on the market.

Construction DreamCloud vs Sealy Hybrid

The DreamCloud has an astoundingly tall profile for a mattress at a whopping 15 inches. The eight-layer structure is broken down to foam and wrapped coil components, which work in tandem to provide the sleeper with a firm innerspring lift and plenty of comfortable pressure relief.

Given all of the different materials at play here, I’m stoked to get into these layers to see how well they interact with one another. DreamCloud vs Sealy Hybrid

construction-1

Cover – The cover is made up of a cashmere and polyester blend for a luxuriously soft texture up top. It’s also quilted with memory foam, which provides the sleeper with instant relaxation.

Foam Layers – Below the cover, you will discover three thin layers of polyurethane. While these segments are soft to the touch and provide some satisfying sinkage, they also react quickly to pressure, so you won’t feel stuck in the mattress. The center of the three layers is particularly important because of the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it’s comprised of perforated latex foam. Latex generally is great at dissipating heat, so the addition of those tiny ventilations encourages more cooling.

Pocketed Coils – The base layer of polyurethane transitions into the firmer support segment of this mattress, which is made up of a pocketed coil system. These individually wrapped springs give the mattress excellent bounce and help disperse motion throughout the mattress. The coils also assist in regulating temperature as the spaces between them permit steady air flow.

Foundation Layer – A thin layer of high-density polyfoam is found in the bottom of the mattress, with the main function of cradling the pocketed coils and offering a solid foundation for the whole mattress.

Firmness

After taking a look at the construction of the DreamCloud, let’s chat about the firmness and texture. I started off by applying mild hand pressure into the bed and instantly felt the soft foam of the quilted cover and top layers. My hand sunk into the material and I could sense some instantaneous pressure relief. Pushing in further, I started to interact with the pocketed coils below and experienced a nice lift from these springs.

Now I want to note that people of different body types and shapes will feel firmness differently. As opposed to giving only my opinion on the overall firmness level of this mattress, I enlisted three other people to present their view as well. This will provide you with a better feeling of the firmness range you can expect from the mattress.

firmness test-1

As you can see in the graph above, the testers were in agreement about the firmness of the mattress, giving it an average rating of 7.75. Compared to the industry norm of 6.5 for moderate firmness and it’s apparent that this mattress is pretty firm.

Personally, I gave the bed a 7.5 and agree with the rest of the testers that it’s definitely a solid bed. While you’ll feel some slight sinking because of the lavish foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils in the core will lift you out of the bed and make you feel as though you’re sleeping on top of this mattress.

Pressure Map

As opposed to just explaining the feel of this mattress to you, I chose to provide a visual representation of where somebody may feel pressure points shape while lying on it. To do so, I placed a pressure map above the mattress and lied on my back, side, and tummy. You can find the outcomes on the picture below where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).

pressure map-1

Back – When on my back, my weight was evenly distributed throughout the mattress, so I didn’t feel as though I was sinking into the bed in any way. The quilted cover provided quality relief at my lumbar region and also the pocketed coils helped to lift me out of the bed and keep my back in alignment.

Side – As you can see in the graph above, once I rolled onto my side, I started to feel pressure forming at my hips and shoulders. However, I still felt supported and the top foam layers alleviated what discomfort I felt in this position.

Stomach – Switching over to my stomach, I thought that the DreamCloud did a great job of lifting my hips up and from the mattress, which can be crucial for stomach sleepers. I should mention that I managed to transition across these positions with relative ease.

Motion Transfer

If you intend on sharing your mattress with a partner, you’ll want to find out what it’ll feel like when another individual crawls out of bed in the morning or tosses around during the nighttime. This next test is meant to demonstrate the intensity of motion that is detectable from 1 side of the mattress from another. DreamCloud vs Sealy Hybrid

To illustrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 lb steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and quantified the disturbance it caused: the bigger the lines, the larger the disturbance.

The DreamCloud demonstrates a little bit of disturbance for the four inch drop, which simulates somebody rolling around and adjusting their position on the opposite side of the bed. While the 8 and 12 inch drops reveal slightly larger spikes, I would still regard the mattress to be quite good at isolating movement, thanks to the individually wrapped coils. This means that you’re not likely to be overly disturbed by your bed mate’s midnight shimmies, which makes this an awesome solution for couples.

Sinkage Test

When buying a new bed, the majority of men and women want to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking”into” the bed or lying “on top” of it. To visualize this sinkage, I placed four balls of different sizes and densities (a 6 pound medicine ball, a 10 pound steel ball, a 50 pound medicine ball, and a 100 lb medicine ball) on the mattress and measured how much they compacted the top.

The variations in size, weight and density are meant to simulate different body parts and different sized sleepers. DreamCloud vs Sealy Hybrid

6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.

10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.

50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.

100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.

Even though you’re going to experience some immediate sinkage from the soft foam at the top, by the time you sink through these layers, you’ll hit the wrapped coils and feel amazing support. This combo will interest a vast assortment of sleepers, but will suit back and stomach sleepers in particular.

Edge Support

If you are going to share your mattress with a partner and will need to utilize the entire surface area of the mattress, it’s likely to be crucial for you to think about the amount of edge support it’ll provide.

I am especially interested to see if the DreamCloud will endure the exact same fate as other compressed bed-in-a-box mattresses which fail to fulfill the edge support of more traditional innerspring versions.

Lying on my back, I felt just as supported at the edge of the bed as I did at the center. Going closer to the side, I experienced a bit of compression because of the top foam layers, but nothing overly dramatic.

Shifting to my side, I noticed compression in the foam layers, but it didn’t carry over into the coil system below. This system, along with the polyfoam edge support around the mattress, did a good job of supporting my body.

In this position, I wanted to simulate what it’d feel like to be sitting on top of the mattress in the morning when you’re tying your shoes and getting ready for the day. A good deal of foam mattresses undergo severe compression in this position, but the DreamCloud really held up fairly good.
