Because it’s a hybrid mattress, the DreamCloud meets many of our criteria for what a quality bed should have. With eight unique layers of support and comfort, the DreamCloud utilizes all of the proper materials in its construction. DreamCloud vs Sealy Hybrid
From the tufted cashmere cover that gives great airflow, to the gel memory foam in the uppermost comfort layer, the DreamCloud was made to deliver a cooler night’s sleep. Below that are a mix of memory foam and latex layers, meaning this bed contains better quality relaxation materials than most other hybrid mattresses.
Even though it uses multiple memory foam layers, there’s no hug or significant contouring to the mattress. If you’re looking to sink into a mattress, move on from the DreamCloud.
A pocketed coil support center keeps you aligned all night long, especially so for all you back sleepers on the market.

Construction DreamCloud vs Sealy Hybrid
The DreamCloud features an astoundingly tall profile for a mattress at a humongous 15 inches. The eight-layer construction is broken down into foam and wrapped coil components, which operate in tandem to supply the sleeper with a strong innerspring lift and plenty of comfortable pressure relief.
Given all the different materials at play here, I am stoked to get into these layers to understand how well they interact with one another. DreamCloud vs Sealy Hybrid
Cover – The cover is made up of a cashmere and polyester mix for a luxuriously soft feel up top. It’s also quilted with memory foam, which supplies the sleeper with instant pressure relief.
Foam Layers – Under the cover, you will discover three thin layers of polyurethane. While these segments are soft to the touch and provide some satisfying sinkage, they also respond quickly to pressure, so that you won’t feel trapped in the mattress. The center of the three layers is especially essential because of the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it is made up of perforated latex foam. Latex in general is great at releasing heat, so the inclusion of those small ventilations promotes even more cooling.
Pocketed Coils – The bottom layer of foam transitions into the firmer support section of the mattress, which is made up of a pocketed coil system. These individually wrapped springs provide the mattress excellent rebound and assist to disperse motion throughout the mattress. The coils also aid in moderating temperature as the distances between them allow for steady air flow.
Foundation Layer – A thin layer of high-density polyfoam lies in the base of the mattress, with the major function of cradling the pocketed coils and offering a solid foundation for the entire mattress.
After taking a look at the construction of the DreamCloud, let us talk about the firmness and feel. I started off by applying mild hand pressure into the bed and instantly felt the soft foam of the quilted cover and first layers. My hand sunk into the material and I could feel some instant pressure relief. Pushing in farther, I began to interact with the pocketed coils below and experienced a nice lift from the springs.
At this point I’d like to note that individuals of different body shapes and types will sense firmness differently. Rather than giving just my opinion on the general firmness level of the DreamCloud, I invited three other individuals to present their opinion too. This will give you a better sense of the firmness range you may expect from the bed.
As you can see in the graph above, the testers were in agreement about the firmness of the mattress, giving it a mean rating of 7.75. Compare this to the market norm of 6.5 for medium firmness and it is apparent that this mattress is really firm.
I personally gave the mattress a 7.5 and agree with the rest of the testers that it is definitely a good bed. While you’ll feel some slight sinking from the plush foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils at the center will lift you from this mattress and make you feel like you’re sleeping on top of this mattress.
As opposed to simply describing the feel of the mattress for you, I wanted to provide a visual representation of where somebody may feel pressure points form while lying on it. To do so, I put a pressure map above the mattress and lied on my backside, and tummy. You can see the results on the image below where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back – Once on my back, my weight was evenly dispersed across the mattress, therefore I didn’t feel as though I was sinking into the mattress at all. The quilted cover gave quality relief at my lumbar region and the pocketed coils helped to lift me from the bed and keep my back in alignment.
Side – As you can see in the chart above, once I rolled onto my side, I began to feel pressure forming at my hips and shoulders. However, I still felt supported and the top foam layers relieved what distress I felt in this position.
Stomach – Shifting over to my belly, I believed that the DreamCloud did a fantastic job of lifting my hips upward and out of the mattress, which is crucial for stomach sleepers. I must mention that I was able to transition across these positions with relative ease.
If you intend on sharing your bed with a partner, you’ll want to know what it will feel like if another individual crawls out of bed in the break of dawn or tosses around during the night. This next test is meant to demonstrate the high level of movement that’s detectable from one side of the mattress from the other. DreamCloud vs Sealy Hybrid
To show you this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 lb steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and quantified the disturbance it caused: the bigger the lines, the bigger the disturbance.
The DreamCloud demonstrates a small amount of disturbance for the 4 inch drop, which simulates someone rolling around and adjusting their position on the other side of the mattress. While the 8 and 12 inch drops reveal slightly larger spikes, I’d still regard the mattress to be pretty good at isolating motion, thanks to its individually wrapped coils. This indicates that you’re unlikely to be too disturbed by your mattress partner’s midnight shimmies, making this an awesome option for couples.
While purchasing a new mattress, the majority of men and women want to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking”into” the mattress or lying “on top” of it. To visualize this sinkage, I placed four balls of different sizes and densities (a 6 pound medicine ball, a 10 pound steel ball, a 50 lb medicine ball, along with a 100 pound medicine ball) on the mattress then measured how much they compacted the top.
The variations in size, weight and density are supposed to mimic different body parts and different sized sleepers. DreamCloud vs Sealy Hybrid
– 6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.
– 10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
– 50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
– 100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.
While you’re likely to experience some immediate sinkage from the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through these layers, you’ll find the wrapped coils and experience amazing support. This combo will interest a vast range of sleepers, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers the most.
If you are going to share your mattress with a spouse and need to utilize the whole surface area of the mattress, it is likely to be crucial that you consider the amount of edge support it’ll give you.
I am especially interested to determine if the DreamCloud will endure the exact same fate as other compressed bed-in-a-box mattresses that fail to live up to the edge support of more conventional innerspring models.
Laying on my back, I felt just as supported in the edge of the mattress as I did in the center. Going closer to the side, I felt a bit of compression due to the top foam layers, but nothing overly dramatic.
Changing to my side, I noticed compression in the foam layers, but it didn’t carry over to the coil system below. This system, together with the polyfoam edge support round the mattress, did a good job of supporting my body.
In this position, I wished to simulate what it would feel like to be sitting on the mattress in the morning when you’re tying your shoes and getting ready for work. A lot of foam mattresses undergo a lot of compression in this position, but the DreamCloud actually held up fairly well.
