As a hybrid mattress, the DreamCloud meets many of our standards for what a excellent mattress must have. With 8 unique layers of comfort and support, the DreamCloud uses all the right materials in its construction. Dreamcloud vs Puffy Review
From the tufted cashmere cover that provides good airflow, to the gel memory foam at the uppermost comfort layer, the DreamCloud was made to deliver a cooler night’s sleep. Below that are a mixture of memory foam and latex layers, meaning this mattress includes better quality comfort materials than most other hybrid mattresses.
Even though it utilizes multiple memory foam layers, there’s no hug or significant shaping to the mattress. If you’re looking to sink into a mattress, move on from the DreamCloud.
A pocketed coil support core keeps you aligned all night long, especially for all you back sleepers out there.

Construction Dreamcloud vs Puffy Review
The DreamCloud features a tall profile for a mattress at a humongous 15 inches. The eight-layer structure is broken down to foam and wrapped coil parts, which operate in tandem to provide the sleeper with a strong innerspring lift and plenty of comfortable pressure relief.
Given all of the distinct materials at play here, I’m stoked to get into these layers to understand how well they interact together. Dreamcloud vs Puffy Review
Cover – The cover is composed of a cashmere and polyester mix for a luxuriously soft texture up top. Additionally, it is quilted with memory foam, which supplies the sleeper with immediate relaxation.
Foam Layers – Under the cover, you’ll find three thin layers of foam. While these segments are soft to the touch and provide some satisfying sinkage, they also react quickly to pressure, so that you won’t feel trapped in the bed. The center of the three layers is particularly important for the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it’s made up of perforated latex foam. Latex in general is good at dissipating heat, so the inclusion of those small ventilations encourages even more cooling.
Pocketed Coils – The base layer of foam transitions to the firmer support segment of the mattress, which is composed of a pocketed coil system. These individually wrapped springs provide the mattress excellent bounce and help to disperse motion throughout the structure. The coils also aid in regulating temperatures as the distances between them permit continuous air flow.
Foundation Layer – A thin layer of high-density polyfoam is found in the base of the mattress, with the major function of cradling the pocketed coils and offering a sound foundation for the entire mattress.
After taking a peek at the construction of the DreamCloud, let us talk about the firmness and texture. I started off by putting light hand pressure into the bed and instantly felt the soft foam of the quilted cover and first layers. My hand flowed into the material and I could sense some instantaneous pressure relief. Pushing in further, I began to interact with all the pocketed coils beneath and experienced a pleasant lift from the springs.
Now I’d like to let you know that people of different body shapes and types will feel firmness differently. Rather than giving only my opinion on the overall firmness level of this mattress, I invited three other people to give their view as well. This will provide you with a much better sense of the firmness range you may expect from the mattress.
As you can see in the graph above, the testers were pretty much in agreement about the firmness of the DreamCloud, giving it a mean rating of 7.75. Compare this to the market norm of 6.5 for moderate firmness and it’s apparent that this bed is pretty firm.
I personally gave the bed a 7.5 and agree with the rest of the testers that it’s definitely a solid bed. At the same time you’ll feel some small sinking because of the plush foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils at the center will lift you out of the bed and make you feel as though you’re sleeping on top of this mattress.
As opposed to simply describing the feel of the DreamCloud to you, I wanted to provide a visual representation of where somebody may feel pressure points form while lying on the mattress. To do so, I put a pressure map above the bed and lied on my backside, and tummy. You can see the outcomes on the image below where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back – When on my back, my weight was equally dispersed across the mattress, therefore I did not feel as though I was sinking into the bed in any way. The quilted cover provided quality relief at my lumbar region and also the pocketed coils helped to lift me out of the mattress and keep my back in alignment.
Side – As you can see in the graph above, once I rolled onto my side, I began to feel pressure forming in my shoulders and hips. But, I felt supported while the top foam layers relieved what distress I felt in this position.
Stomach – Shifting over to my belly, I believed that the DreamCloud did a fantastic job of lifting my hips up and from the mattress, which can be key for stomach sleepers. I must mention that I managed to shift across these positions with comparative ease.
If you plan on sharing your bed with a partner, you will want to find out what it’ll feel like if another individual crawls out of bed in the break of dawn or tosses around at night. This next test is intended to demonstrate the intensity of movement that’s detectable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. Dreamcloud vs Puffy Review
To illustrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 pound steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and quantified the disturbance it generated: the bigger the lines, the bigger the disturbance.
The DreamCloud shows a small amount of disturbance for the four inch drop, which simulates somebody rolling around and adjusting their position on the opposite side of the mattress. While the 8 and 12 inch drops show slightly larger spikes, I’d still regard the mattress to be quite good at isolating motion, as a result of its individually wrapped coils. This indicates you’re unlikely to be overly disturbed by your bed mate’s midnight shimmies, making this an awesome solution for couples.
While purchasing a new bed, most people want to know whether they will feel as though they’re sinking”into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it. To picture this sinkage, I placed four balls of different sizes and densities (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 lb steel ball, a 50 lb medicine ball, along with a 100 pound medicine ball) on the mattress and measured how much they compacted the top.
The variations in size, density and weight are supposed to mimic different body parts and different sized sleepers. Dreamcloud vs Puffy Review
– 6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.
– 10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
– 50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
– 100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.
Even though you’re going to experience some immediate sinkage in the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through these layers, you’ll find the wrapped coils and experience amazing support. This combo will appeal to a wide assortment of sleepers, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers in particular.
If you are going to share your bed with a partner and will need to use the whole surface area of the mattress, then it’s likely to be crucial that you think about the amount of edge support it’ll give you.
I’m particularly interested to determine if the DreamCloud will endure the exact same fate as other compressed bed-in-a-box mattresses which fail to fulfill the edge support of more conventional innerspring models.
Lying on my back, I felt as supported at the edge of the mattress as I did in the center. Pressing closer to the side, I felt a bit of compression due to the top foam layers, but nothing overly dramatic.
Shifting to my side, I noticed compression in the foam layers, but it did not carry over into the wrapped coil system beneath. This system, along with the polyfoam edge support around the mattress, did a good job of supporting my body.
In this position, I wanted to simulate what it’d feel like to be sitting on the bed in the morning when you’re tying your shoes and getting ready for work. A lot of foam mattresses undergo severe compression in this position, but the DreamCloud really held up fairly well.
