While the Oceano is another popular option, you’ll want to consider the differences. The Oceano may have a more medium to medium firm feel to the mattress that is very supportive while the Dreamcloud is more plush and is slower to react to any movements while on the bed. Read below for more details on the DreamCloud Mattress.

Because it’s a hybrid mattress, the DreamCloud meets a number of our standards for what a quality bed must provide. With 8 exceptional layers of comfort and support, the DreamCloud utilizes all of the right materials in its construction. Dreamcloud vs Oceano Mattress
From the tufted cashmere cover that gives great airflow, to the gel memory foam at the uppermost comfort layer, the DreamCloud is designed to deliver a cooler night’s sleep. Below that are a mix of memory foam and latex layers, meaning this mattress includes better quality relaxation materials than most other hybrid mattresses.

Even though it uses multiple memory foam layers, there’s not any hug or significant contouring to the bed. If you are looking to sink into a mattress, move on from the DreamCloud.

A pocketed coil support core keeps you aligned all night long, particularly so for all you back sleepers out there.

Construction Dreamcloud vs Oceano Mattress

The DreamCloud features a tall profile for a mattress at a whopping 15 inches. The eight-layer construction is broken down to foam and wrapped coil components, which work in tandem to supply the sleeper with a strong innerspring lift and lots of comfy pressure relief.

Given all the different materials at play here, I’m stoked to get into these layers to see how well they interact with one another. Dreamcloud vs Oceano Mattress

construction-1

Cover – The cover is made up of a cashmere and polyester mix for a luxuriously soft texture up top. Additionally, it is quilted with memory foam, which supplies the sleeper with immediate relaxation.

Foam Layers – Under the cover, you will discover three thin layers of foam. While these segments are soft to the touch and provide some pleasing sinkage, they also respond quickly to pressure, so that you won’t feel stuck in the bed. The center of these three layers is particularly important because of the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it is comprised of perforated latex foam. Latex in general is good at releasing heat, so the inclusion of these tiny ventilations promotes more cooling.

Pocketed Coils – The bottom layer of polyurethane transitions to the firmer support section of this mattress, which is composed of a pocketed coil system. These individually wrapped springs give the bed excellent rebound and assist to disperse motion throughout the mattress. The coils also aid in regulating temperature as the distances between them allow for continuous air flow.

Foundation Layer – A thin layer of high-density polyfoam is found at the base of the mattress, with the major function of cradling the pocketed coils and offering a solid foundation for the whole mattress.

Firmness

After taking a look at the construction of the DreamCloud, let’s chat about the firmness and texture. I started off by applying mild hand pressure into the bed and instantly felt the soft foam of the quilted cover and top layers. My hands sunk into the material and I could sense some instantaneous pressure relief. Pushing in further, I began to interact with the pocketed coils below and experienced a nice lift from the springs.

At this point I want to let you know that individuals of different body types and shapes will sense firmness differently. As opposed to giving only my opinion on the overall firmness level of the DreamCloud, I enlisted three other individuals to present their opinion too. This will give you a better sense of the firmness range you can expect from the bed.

firmness test-1

As you can find in the chart above, the testers were in agreement about the stability of this mattress, giving it an average score of 7.75. Compared to the industry norm of 6.5 for medium firmness and it’s apparent that this bed is pretty firm.

I personally gave the bed a 7.5 and concur with the other testers that it’s definitely a solid bed. At the same time you’ll feel some small sinking from the lavish foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils in the core will lift you out of this bed and make you feel as though you’re sleeping on top of this mattress.

Pressure Map

Rather than simply explaining the feel of this mattress to you, I chose to provide a visual representation of where somebody may feel pressure points form while lying on it. To do this, I put a pressure map on top of the bed and lied on my back, side, and tummy. You can find the outcomes on the picture below where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).

pressure map-1

Back – When on my back, my weight was evenly dispersed across the mattress, therefore I didn’t feel like I was sinking into the bed in any way. The quilted cover gave quality relief in my lumbar area and the pocketed coils helped lift me from the bed and keep my spine in alignment.

Side – As you can see in the graph above, after I rolled onto my side, I began to feel pressure forming in my shoulders and hips. However, I still felt supported and the top foam layers relieved what discomfort I felt in this position.

Stomach – Shifting over to my stomach, I believed the DreamCloud did a great job of lifting my hips up and from the bed, which is crucial for stomach sleepers. I should mention that I managed to shift across these positions with relative ease.

Motion Transfer

If you plan on sharing your mattress with a spouse, you’ll want to know what it’ll feel like if the other individual crawls out of bed in the morning or tosses around during the nighttime. This next test is intended to demonstrate the intensity of motion that is detectable from one side of the mattress to another. Dreamcloud vs Oceano Mattress

To illustrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 lb steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and then measured the disturbance it caused: the bigger the lines, the bigger the disturbance.

The DreamCloud shows a little bit of disturbance for the four inch drop, which simulates someone rolling around and adjusting their position on the other side of the bed. While the 8 and 12 inch drops reveal slightly bigger spikes, I would still regard the mattress to be pretty good at isolating movement, as a result of its individually wrapped coils. This means that you’re unlikely to be too disturbed by your mattress partner’s midnight shimmies, which makes this an awesome solution for couples.

Sinkage Test

While purchasing a new bed, most men and women want to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking”into” the bed or laying “on top” of it. To picture this sinkage, I placed 4 balls of different sizes and densities (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 lb steel ball, a 50 pound medicine ball, and a 100 lb medicine ball) on the mattress then measured how much they compacted the top.

The variations in size, density and weight are supposed to simulate distinct body parts and different sized sleepers. Dreamcloud vs Oceano Mattress

6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.

10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.

50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.

100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.

While you’re likely to encounter some instant sinkage in the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through these layers, you’ll hit the wrapped coils and experience fantastic support. This combination will interest a wide range of sleepers, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers in particular.

Edge Support

If you are going to share your mattress with a partner and need to use the entire surface area of the mattress, it is going to be crucial for you to think about the amount of edge support it will give you.

I am especially interested to determine whether the DreamCloud will suffer the same fate as other compacted bed-in-a-box mattresses that fail to fulfill the edge support of more traditional innerspring versions.

Laying on my back, I felt just as supported in the edge of the mattress as I did in the middle. Going closer to the side, I experienced a little compression due to the top foam layers, but nothing overly dramatic.

Shifting to my side, I noticed compression in the foam layers, but it didn’t carry over into the wrapped coil system below. This system, together with the polyfoam edge support round the mattress, did a good job of supporting my body.

In this position, I wished to simulate what it would feel like to be sitting on the mattress in the morning when you’re tying your shoes and getting ready for work. A good deal of foam mattresses undergo severe compression in this position, but the DreamCloud really held up fairly well.
