As a hybrid mattress, the DreamCloud meets a number of our standards for what a excellent mattress should provide. With eight unique layers of support and comfort, the DreamCloud uses all the proper materials in its construction. Dreamcloud vs Helix Midnight
From the tufted cashmere cover that provides great airflow, to the gel memory foam at the uppermost comfort layer, the DreamCloud is designed to deliver a cooler night’s sleep. Resting below are a mix of polyurethane foam and latex layers, meaning this mattress contains better quality comfort materials than most other hybrid beds.

Construction Dreamcloud vs Helix Midnight
The DreamCloud has an astoundingly tall profile for a mattress at a whopping 15 inches. The eight-layer structure is broken down to foam and wrapped coil parts, which work in tandem to supply the sleeper with a firm innerspring lift and lots of comfortable pressure relief.
Given all of the different materials at play , I’m stoked to get into these layers to see how well they interact with one another. Dreamcloud vs Helix Midnight
Cover – The cover is composed of a cashmere and polyester blend for a soft texture up top. It’s also quilted with memory foam, which provides the sleeper with immediate pressure relief.
Foam Layers – Below the cover, you’ll find three thin layers of polyurethane. While these segments are soft to the touch and supply some satisfying sinkage, they also respond quickly to pressure, so you won’t feel trapped in the bed. The center of these three layers is particularly important for the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it’s made up of perforated latex foam. Latex generally is good at releasing heat, so the inclusion of these tiny ventilations encourages even more cooling.
Pocketed Coils – The bottom layer of polyurethane transitions to the firmer support segment of the mattress, which is composed of a pocketed coil system. These individually wrapped springs provide the bed excellent bounce and help disperse motion throughout the mattress. The coils also assist in regulating temperatures as the distances between them allow for continuous air flow.
Foundation Layer – A thin layer of high-density polyfoam lies at the base of the mattress, with the major function of cradling the pocketed coils and offering a solid foundation for the entire mattress.
After having a look at the construction of the DreamCloud, let us talk about the firmness and feel. I started off by applying light hand pressure to the bed and immediately felt the soft foam of the quilted cover and first layers. My hands sunk into the material and I could feel some instant pressure relief. Pushing in further, I started to interact with the pocketed coils beneath and experienced a pleasant lift from the springs.
Now I want to let you know that people of different body types and shapes will feel firmness differently. As opposed to giving just my opinion on the overall firmness level of this DreamCloud, I invited three additional individuals to present their opinion too. This will give you a better feeling of the firmness range you can expect from the bed.
As you can see in the graph above, the testers were pretty much in agreement about the firmness of the mattress, giving it a mean rating of 7.75. Compared to the industry standard of 6.5 for moderate firmness and it’s clear that this mattress is really firm.
Personally, I gave the bed a 7.5 and concur with the other testers that it’s definitely a good bed. While you’ll feel some slight sinking because of the plush foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils in the center will lift you out of the bed and make you feel as though you’re sleeping on top of this mattress.
Rather than just explaining the feel of this DreamCloud for you, I wanted to provide a visual representation of where somebody may feel pressure points shape while lying on it. To do this, I placed a pressure map on top of the bed and lied on my backside, and stomach. You can see the results on the picture below where pressure is denoted from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back – Once on my back, my weight was equally distributed throughout the mattress, so I didn’t feel as though I was sinking into the bed at all. The quilted cover gave quality relief at my lumbar region and also the pocketed coils helped to lift me from the mattress and keep my spine in alignment.
Side – As you can see in the graph above, after I rolled onto my side, I began to feel pressure forming in my hips and shoulders. But, I felt supported and the top foam layers alleviated what discomfort I felt in this position.
Stomach – Switching over to my belly, I thought that the DreamCloud did a great job of lifting my hips up and from the mattress, which can be crucial for stomach sleepers. I must mention that I managed to transition across these positions with comparative ease.
If you plan on sharing your bed with a partner, you will want to know what it will feel like if another person crawls out of bed in the morning or tosses around during the nighttime. This next test is intended to demonstrate the intensity of motion that is detectable from one side of the mattress to the other. Dreamcloud vs Helix Midnight
To show you this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 lb steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and quantified the disturbance it generated: the bigger the lines, the bigger the disturbance.
The DreamCloud demonstrates a little bit of disturbance for the four inch drop, which simulates someone tossing around and adjusting their position on the opposite side of the bed. While the 8 and 12 inch drops reveal slightly larger spikes, I’d still consider the mattress to be pretty good at isolating motion, as a result of its individually wrapped coils. This means that you’re unlikely to be too disturbed by your bed partner’s midnight shimmies, making this a great option for couples.
When buying a new mattress, most men and women wish to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking”into” the bed or lying “on top” of it. To picture this sinkage, I put four balls of different sizes and densities (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 lb steel ball, a 50 pound medicine ball, and a 100 pound medicine ball) on the mattress and quantified how much they compressed the surface.
The variations in size, weight and density are meant to mimic distinct body parts and different sized sleepers. Dreamcloud vs Helix Midnight
– 6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.
– 10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
– 50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
– 100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.
While you’re likely to experience some immediate sinkage in the soft foam at the top, by the time you sink through those layers, you are going to hit the wrapped coils and experience fantastic support. This combo will appeal to a vast assortment of sleepers, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers the most.
If you’re going to share your bed with a partner and need to utilize the entire surface area of the mattress, it’s going to be crucial that you think about the amount of edge support it’ll give you.
I’m particularly interested to determine whether the DreamCloud will endure the same fate as other compressed bed-in-a-box mattresses that fail to live up to the edge support of more conventional innerspring versions.
Laying on my back, I felt just as supported at the edge of the bed as I did at the middle. Pressing closer to the side, I felt a bit of compression because of the top foam layers, but nothing too dramatic.
Changing to my side, I once again noticed compression in the foam layers, but it didn’t carry over to the wrapped coil system below. This system, together with the polyfoam edge support around the mattress, did a good job of supporting my body.
In this position, I wished to simulate what it’d feel like to be sitting on the bed in the morning when you are tying your shoes and getting ready for the day. A lot of foam mattresses undergo severe compression in this position, but the DreamCloud really held up fairly well.
