Because it’s a hybrid mattress, the DreamCloud fulfills many of our criteria for what a excellent bed must provide. With eight exceptional layers of comfort and support, the DreamCloud uses all the proper materials in its construction. Dreamcloud vs Aviya
From the tufted cashmere cover that gives good airflow, to the gel memory foam in the uppermost comfort layer, the DreamCloud was made to promote a cooler night’s sleep. Below that are a mix of memory foam and latex layers, meaning this bed contains better quality relaxation materials than most other hybrid mattresses.

Even though it uses multiple memory foam layers, there is no hug or significant shaping to the bed. If you’re searching to sink into a mattress, proceed from the DreamCloud.

A pocketed coil support core keeps you aligned all night long, particularly so for all you back sleepers out there.

Construction Dreamcloud vs Aviya

The DreamCloud features a tall profile for a mattress at a humongous 15 inches. The eight-layer construction is broken down to foam and wrapped coil parts, which operate in tandem to supply the sleeper with a firm innerspring lift and plenty of comfy pressure relief.

Given all the different materials at play here, I am stoked to get into these layers to see how well they interact together. Dreamcloud vs Aviya

construction-1

Cover – The cover is made up of a cashmere and polyester mix for a soft texture up top. Additionally, it is quilted with memory foam, which provides the sleeper with immediate pressure relief.

Foam Layers – Under the cover, you’ll find three thin layers of polyurethane. While these sections are soft to the touch and provide some pleasing sinkage, they also react quickly to pressure, so that you won’t feel trapped in the bed. The middle of the three layers is especially important because of the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it’s comprised of perforated latex foam. Latex generally is good at dissipating heat, so the addition of those small ventilations encourages even more cooling.

Pocketed Coils – The bottom layer of polyurethane transitions to the firmer support segment of the mattress, which is made up of a pocketed coil system. These individually wrapped springs provide the mattress excellent bounce and help disperse motion throughout the mattress. The coils also aid in moderating temperature as the spaces between them allow for steady air flow.

Foundation Layer – A thin layer of high-density polyfoam is found in the base of the mattress, with the major use of cradling the pocketed coils and offering a sound foundation for the whole mattress.

Firmness

After having a peek at the construction of the DreamCloud, let’s chat about the firmness and feel. I started off by putting mild hand pressure into the mattress and instantly felt the soft foam of the quilted cover and first layers. My hand flowed into the material and I could feel some instantaneous pressure relief. Pushing in farther, I began to interact with all the pocketed coils below and experienced a nice lift from the springs.

At this point I want to let you know that individuals of different body shapes and types will sense firmness differently. Rather than giving just my view on the general firmness level of this mattress, I enlisted three additional individuals to present their opinion as well. This will give you a better sense of the firmness range you may see from the mattress.

firmness test-1

As you can find in the graph above, the testers were in agreement about the stability of this mattress, giving it a mean score of 7.75. Compared to the market standard of 6.5 for medium firmness and it is apparent that this bed is pretty firm.

Personally, I gave the bed a 7.5 and agree with the other testers that it is definitely a good mattress. At the same time you’ll feel some small sinking because of the plush foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils in the core will lift you out of this bed and make you feel as though you’re sleeping on top of this mattress.

Pressure Map

As opposed to simply describing the feel of this DreamCloud for you, I chose to give a visual representation of where somebody may feel pressure points shape while lying on the mattress. To do this, I put a pressure map above the mattress and lied on my backside, and tummy. You can see the results on the image below where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).

pressure map-1

Back – When on my backside, my weight was equally dispersed across the mattress, therefore I did not feel as though I was sinking into the bed at all. The quilted cover provided quality relief in my lumbar area and also the pocketed coils helped lift me out of the mattress and keep my back in alignment.

Side – As you can see in the chart above, once I rolled onto my side, I began to feel pressure forming at my hips and shoulders. However, I still felt supported and the top foam layers alleviated what discomfort I felt in this position.

Stomach – Shifting over to my belly, I believed the DreamCloud did a great job of lifting my hips upward and out of the bed, which can be key for stomach sleepers. I must mention that I was able to shift across these positions with comparative ease.

Motion Transfer

If you plan on sharing your mattress with a partner, you will want to know what it’ll feel like if another person crawls out of bed in the morning or tosses around during the night. This next test is meant to demonstrate the intensity of motion that is detectable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. Dreamcloud vs Aviya

To show you this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 pound steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and measured the disturbance it caused: the larger the lines, the larger the disturbance.

The DreamCloud shows a small amount of disturbance for the 4 inch drop, which simulates someone rolling around and adjusting their position on the opposite side of the mattress. While the 8 and 12 inch drops reveal slightly larger spikes, I would still regard the mattress to be quite good at isolating movement, as a result of the individually wrapped coils. This means you’re not likely to be overly disturbed by your bed partner’s midnight shimmies, which makes this an awesome option for couples.

Sinkage Test

While purchasing a new bed, most men and women want to know whether they’ll feel as though they’re sinking”into” the bed or lying “on top” of it. To visualize this sinkage, I placed 4 balls of different sizes and densities (a 6 pound medicine ball, a 10 lb steel ball, a 50 pound medicine ball, and a 100 lb medicine ball) on the mattress and measured how much they compressed the surface.

The variations in size, weight and density are meant to mimic different body parts and different sized sleepers. Dreamcloud vs Aviya

6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.

10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.

50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.

100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.

While you’re going to encounter some instant sinkage in the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through these layers, you’ll hit the wrapped coils and experience fantastic support. This combination will interest a wide assortment of sleepers, but will suit back and stomach sleepers the most.

Edge Support

If you are going to share your mattress with a partner and need to use the whole surface area of the mattress, it’s going to be crucial for you to consider the amount of edge support it’ll provide.

I am especially interested to see whether the DreamCloud will suffer the same fate as other compacted bed-in-a-box mattresses that fail to live up to the edge support of more conventional innerspring models.

Laying on my back, I felt as supported at the edge of the mattress as I did in the middle. Going closer to the side, I felt a bit of compression due to the top foam layers, but nothing overly dramatic.

Shifting to my side, I once again noticed compression in the foam layers, but it did not carry over into the wrapped coil system below. This system, along with the polyfoam edge support round the mattress, did a great job of supporting my body.

In this position, I wanted to simulate what it would feel like to be sitting on the mattress in the morning when you are tying your shoes and getting ready for work. A good deal of foam mattresses experience severe compression in this position, but the DreamCloud actually held up fairly good.
