As a hybrid mattress, the DreamCloud fulfills many of our criteria for what a quality mattress must have. With eight unique layers of support and comfort, the DreamCloud uses all the right materials in its construction. Dreamcloud Too Firm
From the tufted cashmere cover that provides great airflow, to the gel memory foam at the uppermost comfort layer, the DreamCloud was made to deliver a cooler night’s sleep. Below that are a mixture of memory foam and latex layers, meaning this bed includes better quality comfort materials than most other hybrid mattresses.
Even though it uses multiple memory foam layers, there is not any hug or significant contouring to the mattress. If you’re looking to sink into a mattress, proceed from the DreamCloud.
A pocketed coil support center keeps you aligned all night long, particularly so for all you back sleepers out there.

Construction Dreamcloud Too Firm
The DreamCloud features an astoundingly tall profile for a mattress at a humongous 15 inches. The eight-layer construction is broken down to foam and wrapped coil parts, which work in tandem to provide the sleeper with a strong innerspring lift and lots of comfortable pressure relief.
Given all of the distinct materials at play here, I am stoked to get into these layers to understand how well they interact together. Dreamcloud Too Firm
Cover – The cover is made up of a cashmere and polyester mix for a luxuriously soft texture up top. It’s also quilted with memory foam, which supplies the sleeper with instant pressure relief.
Foam Layers – Under the cover, you’ll discover three thin layers of foam. While these sections are soft to the touch and provide some pleasing sinkage, they also respond quickly to pressure, so that you won’t feel trapped in the mattress. The center of these three layers is particularly essential because of the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it’s made up of perforated latex foam. Latex generally is good at releasing heat, so the addition of those small ventilations encourages even more cooling.
Pocketed Coils – The bottom layer of polyurethane transitions to the firmer support section of this mattress, which is composed of a pocketed coil system. These individually wrapped springs give the bed excellent bounce and help disperse motion throughout the mattress. The coils also aid in regulating temperatures as the distances between them allow for continuous air flow.
Foundation Layer – A thin layer of high-density polyfoam is found in the bottom of the mattress, with the main use of cradling the pocketed coils and offering a sound foundation for the entire mattress.
After having a peek at the construction of the DreamCloud, let’s chat about the firmness and texture. I started off by putting light hand pressure into the bed and instantly felt the soft foam of the quilted cover and top layers. My hand sunk into the material and I could feel some instant pressure relief. Pushing in farther, I began to interact with the pocketed coils below and experienced a pleasant lift from the springs.
At this point I want to let you know that individuals of different body shapes and types will feel firmness differently. Rather than giving just my view on the overall firmness level of the DreamCloud, I invited three other individuals to give their opinion as well. This will provide you with a better feeling of the firmness range you may see from the bed.
As you can find in the graph above, the testers were in agreement about the stability of the DreamCloud, giving it a mean rating of 7.75. Compare this to the industry norm of 6.5 for moderate firmness and it’s clear that this bed is really firm.
I personally gave the mattress a 7.5 and agree with the other testers that it is definitely a solid bed. At the same time you’ll feel some slight sinking because of the plush foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils in the center will lift you out of this mattress and make you feel as though you’re sleeping on top of this mattress.
Rather than simply describing the feel of the mattress to you, I chose to provide a visual representation of where somebody may feel pressure points shape while lying on it. To do this, I put a pressure map above the bed and lied on my back, side, and stomach. You can see the results on the picture below where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back – When on my backside, my weight was equally distributed across the mattress, therefore I didn’t feel as though I was sinking into the bed in any way. The quilted cover provided quality relief at my lumbar region and the pocketed coils helped to lift me from the mattress and keep my spine in alignment.
Side – As you can see in the chart above, after I rolled onto my side, I began to feel pressure forming in my hips and shoulders. But, I still felt supported while the top foam layers relieved what distress I felt in this position.
Stomach – Shifting over to my belly, I thought the DreamCloud did a great job of lifting my hips upward and from the mattress, which is crucial for stomach sleepers. I must mention that I was able to shift across these positions with comparative ease.
If you plan on sharing your mattress with a partner, you’ll want to know what it will feel like if another individual crawls out of bed in the morning or tosses around at nighttime. This next test is intended to demonstrate the high level of movement that is detectable from 1 side of the mattress from the other. Dreamcloud Too Firm
To illustrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 pound steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and then quantified the disturbance it generated: the larger the lines, the bigger the disturbance.
The DreamCloud shows a little bit of disturbance for the 4 inch drop, which simulates somebody rolling around and adjusting their position on the other side of the bed. While the 8 and 12 inch drops show slightly bigger spikes, I’d still regard the mattress to be quite good at isolating movement, thanks to the individually wrapped coils. This indicates that you’re not likely to be too disturbed by your mattress mate’s midnight shimmies, making this an awesome solution for couples.
When purchasing a new bed, most people wish to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking”into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it. To visualize this sinkage, I placed four balls of varying sizes and densities (a 6 pound medicine ball, a 10 pound steel ball, a 50 pound medicine ball, and a 100 pound medicine ball) on the mattress then measured how much they compressed the surface.
The variations in size, weight and density are meant to simulate different body parts and different sized sleepers. Dreamcloud Too Firm
– 6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.
– 10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
– 50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
– 100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.
Even though you’re going to encounter some immediate sinkage from the soft foam at the top, by the time you sink through these layers, you’ll hit the wrapped coils and feel fantastic support. This combo will interest a vast assortment of sleepers, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers the most.
If you’re going to share your mattress with a partner and need to use the whole surface area of the mattress, then it is going to be crucial for you to consider the amount of edge support it will give you.
I’m particularly interested to see if the DreamCloud will endure the exact same fate as other compressed bed-in-a-box mattresses that fail to live up to the edge support of more conventional innerspring models.
Laying on my back, I felt just as supported at the edge of the bed as I did in the middle. Pressing closer to the side, I felt a bit of compression due to the top foam layers, but nothing too dramatic.
Changing to my side, I once again noticed compression in the foam layers, but it didn’t carry over into the coil system beneath. This system, along with the polyfoam edge support round the mattress, did a good job of supporting my body.
In this position, I wanted to simulate what it would feel like to be sitting on the bed in the morning when you are lacing up your shoes and getting ready for the day. A lot of foam mattresses experience a lot of compression in this position, but the DreamCloud actually held up fairly well.
