Firmness
After having a look at the construction of the DreamCloud, let us talk about the firmness and texture. I started off by applying light hand pressure to the mattress and instantly felt the soft foam of the quilted cover and top layers. My hand flowed into the material and I could sense some instant pressure relief. Pushing in further, I started to interact with the pocketed coils beneath and experienced a pleasant lift from the springs.
At this point I’d like to let you know that people of different body shapes and types will feel firmness differently. As opposed to giving just my opinion on the overall firmness level of the mattress, I enlisted three additional people to present their view as well. This will provide you with a much better feeling of the firmness range you may see from the bed.
As you can find in the chart above, the testers were in agreement about the stability of this mattress, giving it an average score of 7.75. Compare this to the industry standard of 6.5 for medium firmness and it’s clear that this bed is pretty firm.
I personally gave the bed a 7.5 and agree with the rest of the testers that it is definitely a good bed. While you’ll feel some slight sinking because of the plush foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils in the center will lift you from this mattress and make you feel like you’re sleeping on top of the mattress.
Pressure Map
As opposed to just explaining the feel of this DreamCloud to you, I chose to provide a visual representation of where somebody may feel pressure points form while lying on it. To do this, I put a pressure map above the bed and lied on my back, side, and stomach. You can find the outcomes on the picture below where pressure is denoted from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back – When on my back, my weight was evenly distributed throughout the mattress, so I did not feel like I was sinking into the mattress in any way. The quilted cover provided quality relief at my lumbar area and the pocketed coils helped lift me from the bed and keep my spine in alignment.
Side – As you can see in the graph above, once I rolled onto my side, I began to feel pressure forming in my shoulders and hips. But, I felt supported while the top foam layers relieved what distress I felt in this position.
Stomach – Shifting over to my stomach, I believed that the DreamCloud did a fantastic job of lifting my hips upward and out of the mattress, which is crucial for stomach sleepers. I must mention that I was able to transition across these positions with relative ease.
Motion Transfer
If you plan on sharing your bed with a partner, you’ll want to know what it’ll feel like when another person crawls out of bed in the break of dawn or tosses around at night. This next test is intended to demonstrate the intensity of motion that is detectable from 1 side of the mattress to another. Dreamcloud Return Experience
To show you this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 lb steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and then quantified the disturbance it generated: the larger the lines, the larger the disturbance.
The DreamCloud demonstrates a small amount of disturbance for the 4 inch drop, which simulates somebody tossing around and adjusting their position on the opposite side of the bed. While the 8 and 12 inch drops reveal slightly bigger spikes, I would still consider the mattress to be quite good at isolating motion, thanks to the individually wrapped coils. This means that you’re unlikely to be too disturbed by your bed mate’s midnight shimmies, making this a great option for couples.
Sinkage Test
When purchasing a new bed, the majority of men and women want to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking”into” the bed or laying “on top” of it. – 50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
– 100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.
Even though you’re likely to encounter some immediate sinkage from the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through those layers, you are going to find the wrapped coils and feel fantastic support. This combination will interest a vast assortment of sleepers, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers in particular.
Edge Support

In this position, I wanted to simulate what it would feel like to be sitting on the mattress in the morning when you’re lacing up your shoes and getting ready for work. A good deal of foam mattresses undergo severe compression in this position, but the DreamCloud really held up fairly well.
