Construction Dreamcloud Mattresses In Atlanta

The DreamCloud has a tall profile for a mattress at a humongous 15 inches. The eight-layer construction is broken down into foam and wrapped coil components, which operate in tandem to provide the sleeper with a firm innerspring lift and plenty of comfortable pressure relief.

Given all of the distinct materials at play here, I am stoked to dive into these layers to understand how well they interact together. Dreamcloud Mattresses In Atlanta

construction-1

Cover – The cover is composed of a cashmere and polyester blend for a luxuriously soft feel up top. Additionally, it is built with memory foam, which provides the sleeper with immediate pressure relief.

Foam Layers – Below the cover, you will discover three thin layers of foam. While these sections are soft to the touch and provide some pleasing sinkage, they also react quickly to pressure, so that you won’t feel trapped in the bed. The middle of the three layers is particularly essential because of the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it is made up of perforated latex foam. Latex in general is great at dissipating heat, so the inclusion of those small ventilations promotes even more cooling.

Pocketed Coils – The bottom layer of polyurethane transitions into the firmer support section of this mattress, which is composed of a pocketed coil system. These individually wrapped springs provide the mattress excellent rebound and assist disperse motion throughout the structure. The coils also assist in regulating temperature as the distances between them allow for steady air flow.

Foundation Layer – A thin layer of high-density polyfoam is found in the bottom of the mattress, with the main function of cradling the pocketed coils and offering a solid foundation for the entire mattress.

Firmness

After having a peek at the construction of the DreamCloud, let us talk about the firmness and texture. I started off by putting mild hand pressure to the bed and immediately felt the soft foam of the quilted cover and top layers. My hand sunk into the material and I could sense some instantaneous pressure relief. Pushing in further, I started to interact with the pocketed coils below and experienced a pleasant lift from these springs.

At this point I’d like to let you know that individuals of different body types and shapes will sense firmness differently. As opposed to giving only my view on the overall firmness level of this mattress, I invited three other people to present their opinion too. This will give you a better sense of the firmness range you may expect from the mattress.

firmness test-1

As you can see in the graph above, the testers were in agreement about the firmness of the mattress, giving it an average rating of 7.75. Compare this to the market standard of 6.5 for medium firmness and it’s apparent that this mattress is pretty firm.

I personally gave the bed a 7.5 and concur with the other testers that it is definitely a good mattress. At the same time you’ll feel some slight sinking because of the lavish foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils in the core will lift you out of the bed and make you feel as though you’re sleeping on top of the mattress.

Pressure Map

As opposed to just explaining the feel of this DreamCloud to you, I wanted to give a visual representation of where somebody may feel pressure points form while lying on it. To do so, I placed a pressure map on top of the mattress and lied on my backside, and tummy. You can find the outcomes on the image below where pressure is denoted from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).

pressure map-1

Back – Once on my back, my weight was evenly distributed throughout the mattress, therefore I did not feel like I was sinking into the mattress at all. The quilted cover provided quality relief at my lumbar area and also the pocketed coils helped to lift me from the mattress and keep my spine in alignment.

Side – As you can see in the graph above, after I rolled onto my side, I started to feel pressure forming at my hips and shoulders. But, I still felt supported and the top foam layers relieved what discomfort I felt in this position.

Stomach – Shifting over to my stomach, I believed the DreamCloud did a great job of lifting my hips upward and out of the mattress, which can be crucial for stomach sleepers. I should mention that I managed to transition across these positions with relative ease.

Motion Transfer

If you plan on sharing your bed with a partner, you will want to find out what it’ll feel like if another individual crawls out of bed in the break of dawn or tosses around at night. This next test is meant to demonstrate the high level of motion that’s detectable from one side of the mattress from the other. Dreamcloud Mattresses In Atlanta

To show you this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 pound steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and then measured the disturbance it caused: the bigger the lines, the bigger the disturbance.

The DreamCloud demonstrates a little bit of disturbance for the 4 inch drop, which simulates somebody tossing around and adjusting their position on the opposite side of the mattress. While the 8 and 12 inch drops reveal slightly larger spikes, I’d still regard the mattress to be quite good at isolating movement, thanks to the individually wrapped coils. This indicates you’re unlikely to be too disturbed by your mattress partner’s midnight shimmies, making this an awesome solution for couples.

Sinkage Test

When purchasing a new mattress, most people want to know whether they will feel as though they’re sinking”into” the bed or laying “on top” of it. To visualize this sinkage, I put four balls of varying sizes and densities (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 lb steel ball, a 50 lb medicine ball, along with a 100 pound medicine ball) on the mattress then measured how much they compressed the surface.

The variations in size, density and weight are supposed to mimic different body parts and different sized sleepers. Dreamcloud Mattresses In Atlanta

6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.

10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.

50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.

100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.

While you’re likely to encounter some immediate sinkage from the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through those layers, you are going to find the wrapped coils and feel fantastic support. This combo will appeal to a vast assortment of sleepers, but will suit stomach and back sleepers the most.

Edge Support

If you’re going to share your bed with a partner and need to use the entire surface area of the mattress, it is going to be crucial for you to think about the amount of edge support it’ll provide.

I’m especially interested to determine if the DreamCloud will suffer the same fate as other compressed bed-in-a-box mattresses which fail to fulfill the edge support of more traditional innerspring models.

Laying on my back, I felt just as supported in the edge of the mattress as I did in the middle. Pressing closer to the side, I felt a bit of compression because of the highest foam layers, but nothing overly dramatic.

Changing to my side, I once again noticed compression in the foam layers, but it didn’t carry over to the coil system below. This system, along with the polyfoam edge support round the mattress, did a good job of supporting my weight.

In this position, I wished to simulate what it’d feel like to be sitting on top of the bed in the morning when you are tying your shoes and getting ready for the day. A good deal of foam mattresses experience a lot of compression in this position, but the DreamCloud really held up fairly good.
