Construction Dreamcloud Mattress vs Saavta Mattress
The DreamCloud has a tall profile for a mattress at a humongous 15 inches. The eight-layer structure is broken down into foam and wrapped coil components, which operate in tandem to supply the sleeper with a strong innerspring lift and lots of comfy pressure relief.
Given all of the different materials at play here, I’m stoked to get into these layers to understand how well they interact with one another. Dreamcloud Mattress vs Saavta Mattress
Cover – The cover is made up of a cashmere and polyester mix for a luxuriously soft texture up top. It’s also quilted with memory foam, which provides the sleeper with immediate relaxation.
Foam Layers – Below the cover, you’ll discover three thin layers of foam. While these segments are soft to the touch and provide some satisfying sinkage, they also respond quickly to pressure, so that you won’t feel stuck in the bed. The center of the three layers is especially important because of the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it is comprised of perforated latex foam. Latex in general is good at dissipating heat, so the addition of these tiny ventilations promotes more cooling.
Pocketed Coils – The bottom layer of foam transitions to the firmer support section of the mattress, which is composed of a pocketed coil system. These individually wrapped springs give the bed excellent rebound and assist disperse motion throughout the structure. The coils also aid in moderating temperature as the distances between them allow for steady air flow.
Foundation Layer – A thin layer of high-density polyfoam lies in the base of the mattress, with the major use of cradling the pocketed coils and providing a sound foundation for the entire mattress.
After taking a peek at the construction of the DreamCloud, let’s chat about the firmness and texture. I started off by putting mild hand pressure to the mattress and immediately felt the soft foam of the quilted cover and first layers. My hand sunk into the material and I could sense some instant pressure relief. Pushing in farther, I started to interact with the pocketed coils beneath and experienced a pleasant lift from these springs.
Now I want to let you know that individuals of different body shapes and types will sense firmness differently. As opposed to giving only my view on the overall firmness level of this mattress, I invited three additional people to present their view too. This will give you a better sense of the firmness range you can expect from the bed.
As you can see in the chart above, the testers were in agreement about the firmness of the mattress, giving it a mean score of 7.75. Compared to the industry standard of 6.5 for moderate firmness and it is clear that this bed is really firm.
I personally gave the bed a 7.5 and agree with the rest of the testers that it’s definitely a solid bed. While you’ll feel some small sinking from the lavish foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils at the center will lift you from this mattress and make you feel as though you’re sleeping on top of this mattress.
Rather than simply explaining the feel of the DreamCloud to you, I wanted to provide a visual representation of where someone may feel pressure points shape while lying on it. To do so, I put a pressure map on top of the mattress and lied on my backside, and tummy. You can see the results on the image below where pressure is denoted from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back – Once on my backside, my weight was evenly distributed across the mattress, so I didn’t feel as though I was sinking into the mattress in any way. The quilted cover provided quality relief at my lumbar region and also the pocketed coils helped to lift me out of the bed and keep my spine in alignment.
Side – As you can see in the chart above, once I rolled onto my side, I began to feel pressure forming at my shoulders and hips. However, I still felt supported and the top foam layers relieved what discomfort I felt in this position.
Stomach – Switching over to my stomach, I thought that the DreamCloud did a fantastic job of lifting my hips upward and from the mattress, which is key for stomach sleepers. I should mention that I managed to transition across these positions with relative ease.
If you intend on sharing your bed with a partner, you will want to find out what it will feel like when another person crawls out of bed in the break of dawn or tosses around at night. This next test is intended to demonstrate the high level of motion that’s detectable from 1 side of the mattress from another. Dreamcloud Mattress vs Saavta Mattress
To illustrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 pound steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and then measured the disturbance it caused: the larger the lines, the larger the disturbance.
The DreamCloud demonstrates a small amount of disturbance for the four inch drop, which simulates somebody rolling around and adjusting their position on the other side of the mattress. While the 8 and 12 inch drops show slightly bigger spikes, I would still consider the mattress to be quite good at isolating motion, thanks to the individually wrapped coils. This indicates that you’re not likely to be too disturbed by your bed partner’s midnight shimmies, which makes this a great solution for couples.
When purchasing a new mattress, most men and women want to know whether they will feel as though they’re sinking”into” the bed or laying “on top” of it. To visualize this sinkage, I put 4 balls of different sizes and densities (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 pound steel ball, a 50 pound medicine ball, and a 100 lb medicine ball) on the mattress then measured how much they compressed the surface.
The variations in size, density and weight are supposed to simulate distinct body parts and different sized sleepers. Dreamcloud Mattress vs Saavta Mattress
– 6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.
– 10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
– 50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
– 100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.
While you’re going to encounter some immediate sinkage from the soft foam at the top, by the time you sink through those layers, you’ll hit the wrapped coils and feel fantastic support. This combination will appeal to a wide range of sleepers, but will suit stomach and back sleepers in particular.
If you are going to share your bed with a partner and need to utilize the whole surface area of the mattress, then it is likely to be crucial that you think about the amount of edge support it’ll provide.
I am particularly interested to see whether the DreamCloud will endure the exact same fate as other compacted bed-in-a-box mattresses that fail to fulfill the edge support of more conventional innerspring versions.
Laying on my back, I felt as supported at the edge of the bed as I did in the middle. Going closer to the side, I experienced a little compression because of the top foam layers, but nothing overly dramatic.
Shifting to my side, I once again noticed compression in the foam layers, but it did not carry over into the wrapped coil system beneath. This system, along with the polyfoam edge support around the mattress, did a good job of supporting my weight.
In this position, I wanted to simulate what it would feel like to be sitting on the bed in the morning when you are tying your shoes and getting ready for work. A good deal of foam mattresses experience a lot of compression in this position, but the DreamCloud actually held up fairly good.
