As a hybrid mattress, the DreamCloud meets a number of our standards for what a excellent mattress must provide. With eight unique layers of support and comfort, the DreamCloud uses all of the proper materials in its construction. Dreamcloud Mattress Construction
From the tufted cashmere cover that gives good airflow, to the gel memory foam at the uppermost comfort layer, the DreamCloud is designed to deliver a cooler night’s sleep. Resting below are a mixture of memory foam and latex layers, meaning this mattress includes better quality relaxation materials than most other hybrid beds.
Even though it utilizes multiple memory foam layers, there’s no hug or significant contouring to the mattress. If you’re searching to sink into a mattress, then move on from the DreamCloud.
A pocketed coil support core keeps you aligned all night long, especially so for all you back sleepers out there.

The DreamCloud features a tall profile for a mattress at a whopping 15 inches. The eight-layer structure is broken down to foam and wrapped coil parts, which operate in tandem to provide the sleeper with a firm innerspring lift and plenty of comfy pressure relief.
Given all the distinct materials at play here, I am stoked to get into these layers to understand how well they interact together. Dreamcloud Mattress Construction
Cover – The cover is composed of a cashmere and polyester blend for a soft texture up top. It’s also quilted with memory foam, which supplies the sleeper with instant pressure relief.
Foam Layers – Below the cover, you’ll discover three thin layers of foam. While these segments are soft to the touch and provide some satisfying sinkage, they also react quickly to pressure, so that you won’t feel stuck in the bed. The center of these three layers is particularly important because of the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it is made up of perforated latex foam. Latex in general is great at releasing heat, so the addition of those tiny ventilations promotes more cooling.
Pocketed Coils – The base layer of polyurethane transitions to the firmer support section of the mattress, which is made up of a pocketed coil system. These individually wrapped springs provide the mattress excellent rebound and assist disperse motion throughout the structure. The coils also aid in moderating temperatures as the distances between them allow for steady air flow.
Foundation Layer – A thin layer of high-density polyfoam is found at the bottom of the mattress, with the main use of cradling the pocketed coils and providing a sound foundation for the whole mattress.
After having a peek at the construction of the DreamCloud, let us talk about the firmness and feel. I started off by applying mild hand pressure into the mattress and immediately felt the soft foam of the quilted cover and first layers. My hands sunk into the material and I could feel some instantaneous pressure relief. Pushing in further, I started to interact with the pocketed coils below and experienced a nice lift from these springs.
Now I’d like to note that people of different body types and shapes will sense firmness differently. Rather than giving only my view on the overall firmness level of the DreamCloud, I invited three additional people to present their opinion too. This will provide you with a much better sense of the firmness range you can expect from the bed.
As you can see in the chart above, the testers were pretty much in agreement about the stability of this mattress, giving it a mean rating of 7.75. Compare this to the industry norm of 6.5 for moderate firmness and it is apparent that this bed is really firm.
Personally, I gave the mattress a 7.5 and agree with the rest of the testers that it’s definitely a good bed. While you’ll feel some slight sinking from the plush foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils in the core will lift you out of this mattress and make you feel as though you’re sleeping on top of this mattress.
Rather than simply describing the feel of this DreamCloud for you, I chose to give a visual representation of where somebody may feel pressure points form while lying on the mattress. To do so, I placed a pressure map above the bed and lied on my back, side, and stomach. You can find the outcomes on the image below where pressure is denoted from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back – When on my back, my weight was equally dispersed across the mattress, so I didn’t feel like I was sinking into the mattress in any way. The quilted cover gave quality relief in my lumbar region and the pocketed coils helped lift me out of the mattress and keep my back in alignment.
Side – As you can see in the graph above, once I rolled onto my side, I started to feel pressure forming at my shoulders and hips. However, I still felt supported and the top foam layers relieved what distress I felt in this position.
Stomach – Switching over to my belly, I thought that the DreamCloud did a great job of lifting my hips upward and from the mattress, which can be crucial for stomach sleepers. I should mention that I managed to shift across these positions with relative ease.
If you plan on sharing your mattress with a partner, you’ll want to know what it’ll feel like if another individual crawls out of bed in the break of dawn or tosses around at nighttime. This next test is intended to demonstrate the high level of motion that is detectable from 1 side of the mattress from the other. Dreamcloud Mattress Construction
To illustrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 pound steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and measured the disturbance it caused: the larger the lines, the larger the disturbance.
The DreamCloud shows a little bit of disturbance for the four inch drop, which simulates someone rolling around and adjusting their position on the opposite side of the bed. While the 8 and 12 inch drops reveal slightly bigger spikes, I would still consider the mattress to be pretty good at isolating motion, thanks to its individually wrapped coils. This means that you’re not likely to be overly disturbed by your bed mate’s midnight shimmies, making this an awesome solution for couples.
While purchasing a new mattress, the majority of people want to know whether they’ll feel as though they’re sinking”into” the bed or lying “on top” of it. To visualize this sinkage, I put 4 balls of varying sizes and densities (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 lb steel ball, a 50 pound medicine ball, along with a 100 lb medicine ball) on the mattress and measured how much they compacted the top.
The variations in size, weight and density are meant to simulate different body parts and different sized sleepers. Dreamcloud Mattress Construction
– 6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.
– 10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
– 50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
– 100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.
Even though you’re likely to encounter some instant sinkage in the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through these layers, you’ll find the wrapped coils and feel amazing support. This combination will interest a vast range of sleepers, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers in particular.
If you are going to share your bed with a partner and will need to use the whole surface area of the mattress, it is likely to be crucial for you to consider the amount of edge support it’ll give you.
I am especially interested to see if the DreamCloud will suffer the same fate as other compacted bed-in-a-box mattresses which fail to fulfill the edge support of more traditional innerspring versions.
Laying on my back, I felt just as supported at the edge of the mattress as I did in the middle. Going closer to the side, I felt a bit of compression because of the top foam layers, but nothing too dramatic.
Shifting to my side, I once again noticed compression in the foam layers, but it did not carry over into the coil system below. This system, together with the polyfoam edge support round the mattress, did a great job of supporting my weight.
In this position, I wanted to simulate what it would feel like to be sitting on top of the mattress in the morning when you’re lacing up your shoes and getting ready for the day. A good deal of foam mattresses undergo severe compression in this position, but the DreamCloud actually held up fairly good.
