As a hybrid mattress, the DreamCloud meets a number of our criteria for what a excellent bed should provide. With eight unique layers of support and comfort, the DreamCloud uses all of the proper materials in its construction. Dreamcloud Know Your Dreams
From the tufted cashmere cover that provides great airflow, to the gel memory foam in the uppermost comfort layer, the DreamCloud was made to deliver a cooler night’s sleep. Resting below are a mix of memory foam and latex layers, meaning this bed includes better quality comfort materials than most other hybrid mattresses.
Even though it uses multiple memory foam layers, there is no hug or significant shaping to the bed. If you’re searching to sink into a mattress, then move on from the DreamCloud.

Construction Dreamcloud Know Your Dreams
The DreamCloud has an astoundingly tall profile for a mattress at a humongous 15 inches. The eight-layer construction is broken down to foam and wrapped coil components, which operate in tandem to supply the sleeper with a firm innerspring lift and lots of comfortable pressure relief.
Given all of the distinct materials at play here, I am stoked to get into these layers to understand how well they interact with one another. Dreamcloud Know Your Dreams
Cover – The cover is composed of a cashmere and polyester mix for a soft feel up top. It’s also quilted with memory foam, which supplies the sleeper with immediate relaxation.
Foam Layers – Under the cover, you’ll find three thin layers of polyurethane. While these sections are soft to the touch and supply some pleasing sinkage, they also react quickly to pressure, so you won’t feel trapped in the mattress. The center of the three layers is especially important because of the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it’s made up of perforated latex foam. Latex in general is great at dissipating heat, so the addition of those tiny ventilations promotes more cooling.
Pocketed Coils – The base layer of polyurethane transitions to the firmer support section of the mattress, which is composed of a pocketed coil system. These individually wrapped springs provide the bed excellent bounce and help to disperse motion throughout the structure. The coils also aid in regulating temperatures as the distances between them allow for steady air flow.
Foundation Layer – A thin layer of high-density polyfoam lies at the bottom of the mattress, with the major function of cradling the pocketed coils and providing a solid foundation for the entire mattress.
After having a look at the construction of the DreamCloud, let us talk about the firmness and texture. I started off by applying mild hand pressure into the mattress and immediately felt the soft foam of the quilted cover and first layers. My hands sunk into the material and I could sense some instantaneous pressure relief. Pushing in further, I started to interact with the pocketed coils below and experienced a pleasant lift from the springs.
Now I’d like to let you know that people of different body shapes and types will sense firmness differently. As opposed to giving only my opinion on the general firmness level of this mattress, I enlisted three additional people to give their view too. This will give you a much better sense of the firmness range you may see from the bed.
As you can find in the graph above, the testers were pretty much in agreement about the firmness of this mattress, giving it an average score of 7.75. Compared to the market norm of 6.5 for moderate firmness and it is clear that this mattress is really firm.
I personally gave the mattress a 7.5 and agree with the rest of the testers that it is definitely a good mattress. At the same time you’ll feel some small sinking from the plush foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils at the core will lift you from the mattress and make you feel like you’re sleeping on top of this mattress.
Rather than simply describing the feel of this mattress to you, I wanted to provide a visual representation of where someone may feel pressure points shape while lying on the mattress. To do so, I placed a pressure map above the bed and lied on my back, side, and stomach. You can see the outcomes on the picture below where pressure is denoted from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back – Once on my backside, my weight was equally distributed across the mattress, so I didn’t feel like I was sinking into the bed at all. The quilted cover provided quality relief in my lumbar region and the pocketed coils helped lift me out of the bed and keep my back in alignment.
Side – As you can see in the chart above, after I rolled onto my side, I began to feel pressure forming at my shoulders and hips. But, I still felt supported while the top foam layers alleviated what distress I felt in this position.
Stomach – Switching over to my belly, I believed the DreamCloud did a fantastic job of lifting my hips upward and out of the bed, which is key for stomach sleepers. I must mention that I managed to transition across these positions with relative ease.
If you plan on sharing your bed with a spouse, you’ll want to know what it will feel like if the other person crawls out of bed in the break of dawn or tosses around at nighttime. This next test is intended to demonstrate the high level of movement that’s detectable from 1 side of the mattress from the other. Dreamcloud Know Your Dreams
To show you this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 lb steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and then measured the disturbance it generated: the larger the lines, the larger the disturbance.
The DreamCloud demonstrates a little bit of disturbance for the four inch drop, which simulates someone rolling around and adjusting their position on the opposite side of the mattress. While the 8 and 12 inch drops show slightly bigger spikes, I would still consider the mattress to be pretty good at isolating motion, as a result of its individually wrapped coils. This means that you’re unlikely to be too disturbed by your mattress partner’s midnight shimmies, making this an awesome solution for couples.
While purchasing a new mattress, most people wish to know whether they will feel as though they’re sinking”into” the bed or lying “on top” of it. To picture this sinkage, I placed four balls of varying sizes and densities (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 lb steel ball, a 50 pound medicine ball, along with a 100 lb medicine ball) on the mattress then quantified how much they compacted the top.
The variations in size, weight and density are supposed to mimic different body parts and different sized sleepers. Dreamcloud Know Your Dreams
– 6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.
– 10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
– 50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
– 100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.
Even though you’re likely to experience some instant sinkage in the soft foam at the top, by the time you sink through these layers, you’ll hit the wrapped coils and feel amazing support. This combination will interest a vast range of sleepers, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers the most.
If you’re going to share your bed with a spouse and will need to use the whole surface area of the mattress, it’s likely to be crucial that you think about the amount of edge support it will give you.
I am especially interested to see if the DreamCloud will suffer the same fate as other compacted bed-in-a-box mattresses which fail to live up to the edge support of more traditional innerspring models.
Laying on my back, I felt just as supported in the edge of the bed as I did in the center. Pressing closer to the side, I felt a little compression due to the highest foam layers, but nothing too dramatic.
Shifting to my side, I noticed compression in the foam layers, but it didn’t carry over into the coil system under. This system, along with the polyfoam edge support around the mattress, did a good job of supporting my body.
In this position, I wished to simulate what it’d feel like to be sitting on top of the mattress in the morning when you are tying your shoes and getting ready for the day. A lot of foam mattresses undergo a lot of compression in this position, but the DreamCloud actually held up fairly well.
