Construction Dreamcloud Jobs
The DreamCloud has an astoundingly tall profile for a mattress at a humongous 15 inches. The eight-layer construction is broken down into foam and wrapped coil components, which work in tandem to provide the sleeper with a strong innerspring lift and lots of comfy pressure relief.
Given all of the distinct materials at play here, I’m stoked to dive into these layers to understand how well they interact together. Dreamcloud Jobs
Cover – The cover is made up of a cashmere and polyester mix for a soft feel up top. It’s also quilted with memory foam, which supplies the sleeper with immediate pressure relief.
Foam Layers – Under the cover, you’ll find three thin layers of foam. While these segments are soft to the touch and supply some satisfying sinkage, they also respond quickly to pressure, so you won’t feel stuck in the bed. The middle of these three layers is especially essential because of the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it is comprised of perforated latex foam. Latex generally is good at releasing heat, so the inclusion of those tiny ventilations promotes even more cooling.
Pocketed Coils – The bottom layer of foam transitions into the firmer support segment of this mattress, which is composed of a pocketed coil system. These individually wrapped springs give the mattress excellent bounce and help disperse motion throughout the mattress. The coils also assist in regulating temperature as the distances between them permit continuous air flow.
Foundation Layer – A thin layer of high-density polyfoam lies at the base of the mattress, with the major function of cradling the pocketed coils and offering a sound foundation for the entire mattress.
After taking a peek at the construction of the DreamCloud, let’s chat about the firmness and texture. I started off by applying mild hand pressure into the bed and immediately felt the soft foam of the quilted cover and top layers. My hand flowed into the material and I could sense some instantaneous pressure relief. Pushing in farther, I began to interact with the pocketed coils beneath and experienced a pleasant lift from the springs.
At this point I’d like to note that individuals of different body shapes and types will sense firmness differently. Rather than giving only my opinion on the general firmness level of the mattress, I enlisted three additional individuals to give their view too. This will give you a better feeling of the firmness range you may see from the mattress.
As you can see in the chart above, the testers were in agreement about the firmness of the DreamCloud, giving it an average rating of 7.75. Compared to the industry standard of 6.5 for moderate firmness and it’s apparent that this mattress is pretty firm.
I personally gave the bed a 7.5 and agree with the rest of the testers that it is definitely a good mattress. At the same time you’ll feel some slight sinking because of the plush foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils in the core will lift you out of this mattress and make you feel as though you’re sleeping on top of this mattress.
Rather than just describing the feel of this DreamCloud to you, I chose to provide a visual representation of where someone may feel pressure points shape while lying on it. To do so, I placed a pressure map above the bed and lied on my back, side, and stomach. You can see the results on the image below where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back – Once on my back, my weight was equally distributed throughout the mattress, so I did not feel as though I was sinking into the bed in any way. The quilted cover gave quality relief in my lumbar region and also the pocketed coils helped to lift me from the bed and keep my back in alignment.
Side – As you can see in the graph above, once I rolled onto my side, I began to feel pressure forming in my hips and shoulders. However, I still felt supported while the top foam layers alleviated what distress I felt in this position.
Stomach – Switching over to my stomach, I thought the DreamCloud did a great job of lifting my hips upward and from the mattress, which is key for stomach sleepers. I must mention that I managed to transition across these positions with comparative ease.
If you intend on sharing your mattress with a spouse, you will want to know what it will feel like if the other person crawls out of bed in the break of dawn or tosses around at nighttime. This next test is intended to demonstrate the intensity of movement that is detectable from 1 side of the mattress from the other. Dreamcloud Jobs
To show you this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 lb steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and then quantified the disturbance it caused: the bigger the lines, the larger the disturbance.
The DreamCloud demonstrates a little bit of disturbance for the 4 inch drop, which simulates somebody rolling around and adjusting their position on the other side of the bed. While the 8 and 12 inch drops reveal slightly larger spikes, I’d still consider the mattress to be pretty good at isolating motion, thanks to the individually wrapped coils. This means that you’re not likely to be too disturbed by your bed partner’s midnight shimmies, making this an awesome solution for couples.
When buying a new mattress, the majority of men and women wish to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking”into” the bed or laying “on top” of it. To picture this sinkage, I placed 4 balls of different sizes and densities (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 pound steel ball, a 50 pound medicine ball, along with a 100 lb medicine ball) on the mattress and quantified how much they compacted the top.
The variations in size, density and weight are meant to simulate different body parts and different sized sleepers. Dreamcloud Jobs
– 6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.
– 10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
– 50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
– 100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.
While you’re likely to experience some instant sinkage from the soft foam at the top, by the time you sink through those layers, you’ll find the wrapped coils and feel amazing support. This combination will interest a wide range of sleepers, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers the most.
If you’re going to share your bed with a spouse and will need to utilize the entire surface area of the mattress, it’s going to be crucial for you to think about the amount of edge support it’ll give you.
I am particularly interested to determine whether the DreamCloud will suffer the same fate as other compacted bed-in-a-box mattresses that fail to fulfill the edge support of more conventional innerspring models.
Lying on my back, I felt just as supported at the edge of the mattress as I did at the center. Pressing closer to the side, I felt a bit of compression because of the top foam layers, but nothing overly dramatic.
Shifting to my side, I noticed compression in the foam layers, but it did not carry over into the wrapped coil system below. This system, along with the polyfoam edge support round the mattress, did a good job of supporting my body.
In this position, I wished to simulate what it would feel like to be sitting on the bed in the morning when you’re lacing up your shoes and getting ready for the day. A good deal of foam mattresses undergo a lot of compression in this position, but the DreamCloud really held up fairly well.
