Because it’s a hybrid mattress, the DreamCloud meets a number of our standards for what a excellent bed must have. With eight exceptional layers of comfort and support, the DreamCloud uses all the proper materials in its construction. Dreamcloud In A Cold Room
From the tufted cashmere cover that provides good airflow, to the gel memory foam in the uppermost comfort layer, the DreamCloud is designed to promote a cooler night’s sleep. Resting below are a mixture of memory foam and latex layers, meaning this mattress includes better quality relaxation materials than most other hybrid beds.

Construction Dreamcloud In A Cold Room
The DreamCloud features a tall profile for a mattress at a whopping 15 inches. The eight-layer structure is broken down into foam and wrapped coil components, which operate in tandem to provide the sleeper with a firm innerspring lift and lots of comfy pressure relief.
Given all of the different materials at play , I’m stoked to dive into these layers to understand how well they interact together. Dreamcloud In A Cold Room
Cover – The cover is made up of a cashmere and polyester blend for a soft feel up top. It’s also built with memory foam, which provides the sleeper with instant pressure relief.
Foam Layers – Below the cover, you’ll find three thin layers of polyurethane. While these segments are soft to the touch and provide some pleasing sinkage, they also react quickly to pressure, so that you won’t feel stuck in the bed. The center of the three layers is especially important for the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it’s comprised of perforated latex foam. Latex in general is great at dissipating heat, so the inclusion of these tiny ventilations encourages even more cooling.
Pocketed Coils – The bottom layer of foam transitions to the firmer support section of the mattress, which is composed of a pocketed coil system. These individually wrapped springs provide the bed excellent rebound and assist to disperse motion throughout the mattress. The coils also aid in regulating temperatures as the distances between them allow for steady air flow.
Foundation Layer – A thin layer of high-density polyfoam lies in the base of the mattress, with the main use of cradling the pocketed coils and providing a solid foundation for the entire mattress.
After having a peek at the construction of the DreamCloud, let us talk about the firmness and feel. I started off by putting light hand pressure to the bed and instantly felt the soft foam of the quilted cover and top layers. My hand flowed into the material and I could feel some instant pressure relief. Pushing in further, I started to interact with the pocketed coils below and experienced a nice lift from these springs.
At this point I want to note that people of different body types and shapes will feel firmness differently. Rather than giving only my opinion on the overall firmness level of this DreamCloud, I invited three additional people to give their opinion too. This will provide you with a better sense of the firmness range you can expect from the bed.
As you can find in the chart above, the testers were in agreement about the stability of this mattress, giving it a mean score of 7.75. Compare this to the market norm of 6.5 for medium firmness and it’s apparent that this bed is really firm.
I personally gave the bed a 7.5 and agree with the rest of the testers that it is definitely a good mattress. At the same time you’ll feel some small sinking because of the plush foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils in the center will lift you from the bed and make you feel like you’re sleeping on top of this mattress.
As opposed to just explaining the feel of this mattress for you, I chose to provide a visual representation of where someone may feel pressure points shape while lying on the mattress. To do so, I put a pressure map on top of the bed and lied on my back, side, and stomach. You can find the results on the image below where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back – When on my backside, my weight was evenly distributed throughout the mattress, therefore I didn’t feel like I was sinking into the bed in any way. The quilted cover provided quality relief at my lumbar region and the pocketed coils helped lift me from the bed and keep my spine in alignment.
Side – As you can see in the graph above, once I rolled onto my side, I started to feel pressure forming at my shoulders and hips. However, I felt supported while the top foam layers alleviated what distress I felt in this position.
Stomach – Switching over to my belly, I believed the DreamCloud did a fantastic job of lifting my hips upward and from the bed, which can be crucial for stomach sleepers. I must mention that I managed to shift across these positions with comparative ease.
If you intend on sharing your bed with a spouse, you’ll want to find out what it will feel like when the other person crawls out of bed in the break of dawn or tosses around at night. This next test is meant to demonstrate the intensity of movement that is detectable from one side of the mattress to the other. Dreamcloud In A Cold Room
To show you this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 lb steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and measured the disturbance it caused: the larger the lines, the larger the disturbance.
The DreamCloud shows a little bit of disturbance for the four inch drop, which simulates someone tossing around and adjusting their position on the opposite side of the bed. While the 8 and 12 inch drops reveal slightly bigger spikes, I would still consider the mattress to be quite good at isolating motion, as a result of the individually wrapped coils. This means that you’re unlikely to be overly disturbed by your bed partner’s midnight shimmies, making this a great option for couples.
While purchasing a new bed, most people want to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking”into” the bed or lying “on top” of it. To picture this sinkage, I put four balls of varying sizes and densities (a 6 pound medicine ball, a 10 pound steel ball, a 50 pound medicine ball, and a 100 lb medicine ball) on the mattress then measured how much they compacted the top.
The variations in size, density and weight are meant to mimic different body parts and different sized sleepers. Dreamcloud In A Cold Room
– 6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.
– 10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
– 50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
– 100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.
Even though you’re likely to encounter some instant sinkage from the soft foam at the top, by the time you sink through these layers, you are going to hit the wrapped coils and feel fantastic support. This combo will appeal to a vast range of sleepers, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers in particular.
If you are going to share your bed with a spouse and need to use the whole surface area of the mattress, it is likely to be crucial for you to think about the amount of edge support it will provide.
I’m particularly interested to determine if the DreamCloud will endure the exact same fate as other compacted bed-in-a-box mattresses which fail to live up to the edge support of more conventional innerspring versions.
Lying on my back, I felt just as supported at the edge of the mattress as I did at the middle. Pressing closer to the side, I experienced a bit of compression due to the top foam layers, but nothing too dramatic.
Shifting to my side, I once again noticed compression in the foam layers, but it did not carry over to the wrapped coil system below. This system, together with the polyfoam edge support round the mattress, did a great job of supporting my weight.
In this position, I wished to simulate what it would feel like to be sitting on top of the bed in the morning when you’re tying your shoes and getting ready for work. A lot of foam mattresses experience a lot of compression in this position, but the DreamCloud actually held up fairly good.
