As a hybrid mattress, the DreamCloud meets many of our criteria for what a excellent bed must provide. With 8 unique layers of support and comfort, the DreamCloud uses all of the proper materials in its construction. Dreamcloud Hybrid vs Bear Hybrid
From the tufted cashmere cover that gives good airflow, to the gel memory foam in the uppermost comfort layer, the DreamCloud was made to promote a cooler night’s sleep. Resting below are a mixture of polyurethane foam and latex layers, meaning this bed contains better quality comfort materials than most other hybrid mattresses.
Even though it uses multiple memory foam layers, there is not any hug or significant shaping to the bed. If you’re looking to sink into a mattress, move on from the DreamCloud.
A pocketed coil support core keeps you aligned all night long, especially so for all you back sleepers on the market.

Construction Dreamcloud Hybrid vs Bear Hybrid
The DreamCloud has a tall profile for a mattress at a whopping 15 inches. The eight-layer structure is broken down to foam and wrapped coil parts, which work in tandem to supply the sleeper with a strong innerspring lift and lots of comfortable pressure relief.
Given all of the distinct materials at play , I am stoked to dive into these layers to see how well they interact with one another. Dreamcloud Hybrid vs Bear Hybrid
Cover – The cover is made up of a cashmere and polyester mix for a soft feel up top. It’s also quilted with memory foam, which supplies the sleeper with immediate pressure relief.
Foam Layers – Under the cover, you’ll discover three thin layers of polyurethane. While these sections are soft to the touch and provide some satisfying sinkage, they also react quickly to pressure, so you won’t feel trapped in the bed. The center of these three layers is particularly important because of the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it’s comprised of perforated latex foam. Latex in general is great at releasing heat, so the inclusion of these tiny ventilations encourages more cooling.
Pocketed Coils – The base layer of polyurethane transitions to the firmer support section of this mattress, which is composed of a pocketed coil system. These individually wrapped springs provide the mattress excellent bounce and help disperse motion throughout the mattress. The coils also assist in moderating temperature as the spaces between them allow for continuous air flow.
Foundation Layer – A thin layer of high-density polyfoam is found in the bottom of the mattress, with the major function of cradling the pocketed coils and providing a sound foundation for the entire mattress.
After having a look at the construction of the DreamCloud, let’s chat about the firmness and feel. I started off by applying mild hand pressure into the mattress and instantly felt the soft foam of the quilted cover and top layers. My hand sunk into the material and I could sense some instantaneous pressure relief. Pushing in further, I began to interact with the pocketed coils beneath and experienced a nice lift from these springs.
Now I’d like to note that individuals of different body types and shapes will sense firmness differently. As opposed to giving just my view on the overall firmness level of this DreamCloud, I enlisted three additional people to present their view as well. This will give you a better feeling of the firmness range you can see from the mattress.
As you can see in the chart above, the testers were in agreement about the stability of the DreamCloud, giving it a mean score of 7.75. Compared to the industry standard of 6.5 for moderate firmness and it’s clear that this mattress is really firm.
Personally, I gave the mattress a 7.5 and agree with the rest of the testers that it’s definitely a good mattress. At the same time you’ll feel some small sinking because of the lavish foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils in the core will lift you from the mattress and make you feel like you’re sleeping on top of the mattress.
As opposed to simply explaining the feel of this mattress to you, I chose to give a visual representation of where somebody may feel pressure points shape while lying on it. To do so, I put a pressure map on top of the mattress and lied on my back, side, and tummy. You can find the outcomes on the picture below where pressure is denoted from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back – Once on my backside, my weight was evenly distributed across the mattress, therefore I did not feel as though I was sinking into the bed at all. The quilted cover provided quality relief at my lumbar area and the pocketed coils helped lift me out of the mattress and keep my back in alignment.
Side – As you can see in the graph above, once I rolled onto my side, I started to feel pressure forming in my shoulders and hips. However, I felt supported while the top foam layers alleviated what discomfort I felt in this position.
Stomach – Shifting over to my stomach, I believed the DreamCloud did a great job of lifting my hips up and from the bed, which is key for stomach sleepers. I should mention that I was able to shift across these positions with comparative ease.
If you intend on sharing your mattress with a partner, you’ll want to find out what it will feel like if another person crawls out of bed in the break of dawn or tosses around at night. This next test is intended to demonstrate the intensity of movement that is detectable from 1 side of the mattress from the other. Dreamcloud Hybrid vs Bear Hybrid
To show you this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 lb steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and then measured the disturbance it generated: the bigger the lines, the larger the disturbance.
The DreamCloud shows a little bit of disturbance for the 4 inch drop, which simulates someone rolling around and adjusting their position on the opposite side of the mattress. While the 8 and 12 inch drops reveal slightly larger spikes, I would still consider the mattress to be quite good at isolating movement, thanks to the individually wrapped coils. This means that you’re not likely to be too disturbed by your mattress partner’s midnight shimmies, which makes this an awesome solution for couples.
While purchasing a new mattress, most people want to know whether they will feel as though they’re sinking”into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it. To picture this sinkage, I put 4 balls of varying sizes and densities (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 lb steel ball, a 50 lb medicine ball, and a 100 pound medicine ball) on the mattress and measured how much they compressed the surface.
The variations in size, density and weight are meant to simulate distinct body parts and different sized sleepers. Dreamcloud Hybrid vs Bear Hybrid
– 6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.
– 10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
– 50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
– 100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.
While you’re likely to experience some instant sinkage from the soft foam at the top, by the time you sink through these layers, you’ll find the wrapped coils and feel amazing support. This combination will appeal to a vast range of sleepers, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers in particular.
If you’re going to share your mattress with a spouse and will need to utilize the whole surface area of the mattress, it’s likely to be crucial that you think about the amount of edge support it will provide.
I am particularly interested to determine if the DreamCloud will suffer the exact same fate as other compressed bed-in-a-box mattresses which fail to live up to the edge support of more traditional innerspring versions.
Lying on my back, I felt just as supported in the edge of the bed as I did at the center. Going closer to the side, I experienced a little compression due to the highest foam layers, but nothing overly dramatic.
Changing to my side, I once again noticed compression in the foam layers, but it did not carry over to the wrapped coil system below. This system, together with the polyfoam edge support around the mattress, did a good job of supporting my body.
In this position, I wanted to simulate what it’d feel like to be sitting on the mattress in the morning when you’re lacing up your shoes and getting ready for the day. A good deal of foam mattresses undergo a lot of compression in this position, but the DreamCloud actually held up fairly well.
