As a hybrid mattress, the DreamCloud fulfills a number of our criteria for what a quality bed must have. With eight unique layers of comfort and support, the DreamCloud utilizes all of the right materials in its construction. Dreamcloud Gel Topper
From the tufted cashmere cover that gives great airflow, to the gel memory foam in the uppermost comfort layer, the DreamCloud was made to promote a cooler night’s sleep. Below that are a mixture of polyurethane foam and latex layers, meaning this bed includes better quality comfort materials than most other hybrid mattresses.
Despite the fact that it uses multiple memory foam layers, there is no hug or significant contouring to the mattress. If you are looking to sink into a mattress, move on from the DreamCloud.
A pocketed coil support core keeps you aligned all night long, particularly so for all you back sleepers on the market.

Construction Dreamcloud Gel Topper
The DreamCloud has a tall profile for a mattress at a humongous 15 inches. The eight-layer construction is broken down into foam and wrapped coil parts, which work in tandem to provide the sleeper with a strong innerspring lift and lots of comfy pressure relief.
Given all the distinct materials at play here, I am stoked to get into these layers to understand how well they interact together. Dreamcloud Gel Topper
Cover – The cover is made up of a cashmere and polyester mix for a soft texture up top. Additionally, it is built with memory foam, which provides the sleeper with instant pressure relief.
Foam Layers – Under the cover, you will discover three thin layers of foam. While these segments are soft to the touch and supply some pleasing sinkage, they also respond quickly to pressure, so that you won’t feel stuck in the bed. The center of the three layers is particularly important for the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it’s made up of perforated latex foam. Latex generally is good at releasing heat, so the inclusion of those small ventilations encourages even more cooling.
Pocketed Coils – The bottom layer of polyurethane transitions into the firmer support segment of this mattress, which is composed of a pocketed coil system. These individually wrapped springs give the mattress excellent rebound and assist to disperse motion throughout the mattress. The coils also aid in moderating temperatures as the spaces between them permit continuous air flow.
Foundation Layer – A thin layer of high-density polyfoam lies at the bottom of the mattress, with the main function of cradling the pocketed coils and providing a solid foundation for the entire mattress.
After having a peek at the construction of the DreamCloud, let us talk about the firmness and feel. I started off by applying light hand pressure into the mattress and immediately felt the soft foam of the quilted cover and first layers. My hand sunk into the material and I could feel some instant pressure relief. Pushing in farther, I started to interact with all the pocketed coils below and experienced a pleasant lift from these springs.
Now I want to note that people of different body shapes and types will sense firmness differently. As opposed to giving only my view on the general firmness level of this mattress, I invited three additional individuals to give their opinion too. This will provide you with a better sense of the firmness range you may expect from the bed.
As you can see in the chart above, the testers were in agreement about the firmness of this mattress, giving it an average rating of 7.75. Compared to the industry standard of 6.5 for moderate firmness and it’s clear that this bed is really firm.
I personally gave the bed a 7.5 and concur with the other testers that it’s definitely a good bed. At the same time you’ll feel some slight sinking from the plush foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils in the center will lift you from this mattress and make you feel as though you’re sleeping on top of this mattress.
As opposed to simply explaining the feel of the DreamCloud to you, I chose to give a visual representation of where somebody may feel pressure points form while lying on the mattress. To do so, I placed a pressure map above the mattress and lied on my backside, and stomach. You can find the outcomes on the image below where pressure is denoted from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back – When on my backside, my weight was equally distributed across the mattress, so I didn’t feel like I was sinking into the bed in any way. The quilted cover gave quality relief in my lumbar region and also the pocketed coils helped lift me from the mattress and keep my spine in alignment.
Side – As you can see in the chart above, once I rolled onto my side, I started to feel pressure forming at my shoulders and hips. However, I still felt supported and the top foam layers relieved what distress I felt in this position.
Stomach – Shifting over to my stomach, I thought that the DreamCloud did a fantastic job of lifting my hips up and from the mattress, which is crucial for stomach sleepers. I must mention that I managed to shift across these positions with comparative ease.
If you intend on sharing your bed with a partner, you’ll want to know what it will feel like when another person crawls out of bed in the break of dawn or tosses around during the nighttime. This next test is intended to demonstrate the intensity of motion that’s detectable from 1 side of the mattress from the other. Dreamcloud Gel Topper
To show you this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 lb steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and measured the disturbance it caused: the bigger the lines, the bigger the disturbance.
The DreamCloud shows a little bit of disturbance for the four inch drop, which simulates somebody rolling around and adjusting their position on the other side of the mattress. While the 8 and 12 inch drops show slightly bigger spikes, I’d still consider the mattress to be quite good at isolating movement, thanks to its individually wrapped coils. This means that you’re not likely to be overly disturbed by your bed mate’s midnight shimmies, which makes this a great solution for couples.
When purchasing a new mattress, the majority of people wish to know whether they’ll feel as though they’re sinking”into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it. To visualize this sinkage, I placed 4 balls of varying sizes and densities (a 6 pound medicine ball, a 10 pound steel ball, a 50 pound medicine ball, and a 100 lb medicine ball) on the mattress then quantified how much they compressed the surface.
The variations in size, density and weight are meant to mimic different body parts and different sized sleepers. Dreamcloud Gel Topper
– 6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.
– 10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
– 50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
– 100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.
Even though you’re going to encounter some immediate sinkage from the soft foam at the top, by the time you sink through these layers, you are going to find the wrapped coils and experience amazing support. This combo will interest a wide range of sleepers, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers in particular.
If you are going to share your mattress with a spouse and need to use the whole surface area of the mattress, then it is likely to be crucial for you to consider the amount of edge support it will give you.
I am especially interested to determine if the DreamCloud will suffer the same fate as other compressed bed-in-a-box mattresses which fail to live up to the edge support of more traditional innerspring versions.
Lying on my back, I felt as supported at the edge of the bed as I did at the center. Going closer to the side, I felt a bit of compression because of the highest foam layers, but nothing overly dramatic.
Changing to my side, I once again noticed compression in the foam layers, but it did not carry over into the wrapped coil system under. This system, together with the polyfoam edge support around the mattress, did a great job of supporting my weight.
In this position, I wanted to simulate what it’d feel like to be sitting on top of the mattress in the morning when you are lacing up your shoes and getting ready for work. A good deal of foam mattresses undergo a lot of compression in this position, but the DreamCloud really held up fairly well.
