Because it’s a hybrid mattress, the DreamCloud meets many of our criteria for what a excellent mattress must have. With 8 unique layers of support and comfort, the DreamCloud uses all the right materials in its construction. Dreamcloud Full Size
From the tufted cashmere cover that gives good airflow, to the gel memory foam at the uppermost comfort layer, the DreamCloud was made to deliver a cooler night’s sleep. Below that are a mixture of memory foam and latex layers, meaning this bed includes better quality comfort materials than most other hybrid mattresses.
Even though it utilizes multiple memory foam layers, there’s not any hug or significant contouring to the mattress. If you’re looking to sink into a mattress, move on from the DreamCloud.

Construction Dreamcloud Full Size
The DreamCloud has an astoundingly tall profile for a mattress at a humongous 15 inches. The eight-layer construction is broken down into foam and wrapped coil components, which work in tandem to provide the sleeper with a firm innerspring lift and lots of comfy pressure relief.
Given all of the different materials at play here, I am stoked to dive into these layers to see how well they interact with one another. Dreamcloud Full Size
Cover – The cover is composed of a cashmere and polyester mix for a soft texture up top. It’s also quilted with memory foam, which supplies the sleeper with immediate relaxation.
Foam Layers – Under the cover, you will find three thin layers of foam. While these segments are soft to the touch and supply some satisfying sinkage, they also respond quickly to pressure, so that you won’t feel trapped in the bed. The middle of these three layers is especially essential because of the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it’s made up of perforated latex foam. Latex in general is great at dissipating heat, so the inclusion of these tiny ventilations promotes even more cooling.
Pocketed Coils – The bottom layer of polyurethane transitions to the firmer support segment of the mattress, which is made up of a pocketed coil system. These individually wrapped springs provide the bed excellent bounce and help disperse motion throughout the mattress. The coils also aid in regulating temperatures as the distances between them allow for continuous air flow.
Foundation Layer – A thin layer of high-density polyfoam is found in the base of the mattress, with the main use of cradling the pocketed coils and offering a sound foundation for the whole mattress.
After having a peek at the construction of the DreamCloud, let us talk about the firmness and feel. I started off by applying light hand pressure into the mattress and immediately felt the soft foam of the quilted cover and top layers. My hands sunk into the material and I could feel some instantaneous pressure relief. Pushing in further, I started to interact with all the pocketed coils below and experienced a nice lift from the springs.
At this point I’d like to note that people of different body shapes and types will sense firmness differently. Rather than giving just my view on the overall firmness level of the DreamCloud, I invited three additional people to give their view as well. This will give you a much better sense of the firmness range you may expect from the bed.
As you can see in the graph above, the testers were in agreement about the stability of this mattress, giving it an average score of 7.75. Compared to the industry norm of 6.5 for moderate firmness and it is apparent that this mattress is pretty firm.
Personally, I gave the mattress a 7.5 and concur with the other testers that it’s definitely a solid bed. At the same time you’ll feel some small sinking because of the lavish foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils in the center will lift you out of this bed and make you feel as though you’re sleeping on top of this mattress.
Rather than just explaining the feel of the mattress to you, I chose to provide a visual representation of where somebody may feel pressure points form while lying on it. To do this, I placed a pressure map on top of the bed and lied on my back, side, and stomach. You can see the results on the picture below where pressure is denoted from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back – Once on my back, my weight was equally dispersed throughout the mattress, therefore I did not feel like I was sinking into the mattress at all. The quilted cover gave quality relief at my lumbar region and the pocketed coils helped to lift me out of the bed and keep my back in alignment.
Side – As you can see in the chart above, once I rolled onto my side, I began to feel pressure forming at my hips and shoulders. But, I still felt supported and the top foam layers relieved what distress I felt in this position.
Stomach – Switching over to my stomach, I thought that the DreamCloud did a great job of lifting my hips up and from the mattress, which can be crucial for stomach sleepers. I should mention that I managed to transition across these positions with comparative ease.
If you intend on sharing your mattress with a spouse, you’ll want to know what it will feel like if the other person crawls out of bed in the morning or tosses around during the night. This next test is meant to demonstrate the high level of movement that’s detectable from 1 side of the mattress to another. Dreamcloud Full Size
To show you this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 lb steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and quantified the disturbance it caused: the bigger the lines, the bigger the disturbance.
The DreamCloud shows a little bit of disturbance for the four inch drop, which simulates someone rolling around and adjusting their position on the opposite side of the bed. While the 8 and 12 inch drops reveal slightly larger spikes, I’d still regard the mattress to be pretty good at isolating movement, thanks to the individually wrapped coils. This means you’re unlikely to be too disturbed by your bed mate’s midnight shimmies, which makes this an awesome option for couples.
While purchasing a new mattress, most people want to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking”into” the bed or laying “on top” of it. To visualize this sinkage, I placed 4 balls of varying sizes and densities (a 6 pound medicine ball, a 10 lb steel ball, a 50 pound medicine ball, and a 100 lb medicine ball) on the mattress then quantified how much they compressed the surface.
The variations in size, density and weight are meant to mimic distinct body parts and different sized sleepers. Dreamcloud Full Size
– 6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.
– 10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
– 50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
– 100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.
Even though you’re going to experience some immediate sinkage from the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through these layers, you are going to hit the wrapped coils and feel amazing support. This combo will appeal to a vast range of sleepers, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers in particular.
If you’re going to share your mattress with a partner and will need to use the whole surface area of the mattress, it’s going to be crucial for you to consider the amount of edge support it will provide.
I am particularly interested to see if the DreamCloud will suffer the same fate as other compressed bed-in-a-box mattresses that fail to live up to the edge support of more traditional innerspring models.
Lying on my back, I felt just as supported at the edge of the mattress as I did in the middle. Going closer to the side, I felt a little compression due to the top foam layers, but nothing overly dramatic.
Shifting to my side, I noticed compression in the foam layers, but it didn’t carry over to the wrapped coil system beneath. This system, along with the polyfoam edge support round the mattress, did a good job of supporting my weight.
In this position, I wished to simulate what it’d feel like to be sitting on the bed in the morning when you are lacing up your shoes and getting ready for work. A lot of foam mattresses experience a lot of compression in this position, but the DreamCloud really held up fairly good.
