As a hybrid mattress, the DreamCloud fulfills a number of our standards for what a quality bed should provide. With eight unique layers of comfort and support, the DreamCloud utilizes all the right materials in its construction. Dreamcloud Foundation Height
From the tufted cashmere cover that provides good airflow, to the gel memory foam in the uppermost comfort layer, the DreamCloud was made to promote a cooler night’s sleep. Below that are a mixture of polyurethane foam and latex layers, meaning this bed contains better quality relaxation materials than most other hybrid beds.
Despite the fact that it utilizes multiple memory foam layers, there is not any hug or significant shaping to the mattress. If you’re searching to sink into a mattress, then move on from the DreamCloud.
A pocketed coil support center keeps you aligned all night long, especially for all you back sleepers on the market.

Construction Dreamcloud Foundation Height
The DreamCloud features an astoundingly tall profile for a mattress at a whopping 15 inches. The eight-layer construction is broken down to foam and wrapped coil components, which work in tandem to supply the sleeper with a firm innerspring lift and plenty of comfortable pressure relief.
Given all the distinct materials at play here, I am stoked to dive into these layers to understand how well they interact together. Dreamcloud Foundation Height
Cover – The cover is made up of a cashmere and polyester blend for a luxuriously soft texture up top. Additionally, it is built with memory foam, which provides the sleeper with immediate relaxation.
Foam Layers – Below the cover, you’ll discover three thin layers of foam. While these segments are soft to the touch and provide some pleasing sinkage, they also respond quickly to pressure, so that you won’t feel trapped in the bed. The center of the three layers is especially essential because of the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it is made up of perforated latex foam. Latex generally is great at releasing heat, so the inclusion of these tiny ventilations promotes even more cooling.
Pocketed Coils – The base layer of foam transitions into the firmer support section of this mattress, which is made up of a pocketed coil system. These individually wrapped springs give the bed excellent rebound and assist disperse motion throughout the structure. The coils also assist in moderating temperatures as the distances between them allow for steady air flow.
Foundation Layer – A thin layer of high-density polyfoam lies at the base of the mattress, with the main function of cradling the pocketed coils and offering a solid foundation for the entire mattress.
After taking a peek at the construction of the DreamCloud, let’s chat about the firmness and texture. I started off by putting light hand pressure into the mattress and instantly felt the soft foam of the quilted cover and top layers. My hands sunk into the material and I could feel some instant pressure relief. Pushing in further, I began to interact with the pocketed coils beneath and experienced a pleasant lift from the springs.
At this point I’d like to note that people of different body types and shapes will feel firmness differently. Rather than giving just my view on the general firmness level of this mattress, I enlisted three additional individuals to give their opinion as well. This will give you a better sense of the firmness range you can see from the mattress.
As you can see in the graph above, the testers were pretty much in agreement about the stability of this mattress, giving it a mean rating of 7.75. Compare this to the industry norm of 6.5 for moderate firmness and it’s clear that this bed is really firm.
I personally gave the mattress a 7.5 and agree with the rest of the testers that it’s definitely a solid mattress. While you’ll feel some slight sinking from the plush foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils at the center will lift you from this mattress and make you feel like you’re sleeping on top of this mattress.
As opposed to simply describing the feel of the mattress for you, I wanted to give a visual representation of where somebody may feel pressure points form while lying on the mattress. To do this, I put a pressure map above the bed and lied on my back, side, and tummy. You can see the results on the image below where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back – Once on my backside, my weight was evenly distributed across the mattress, so I did not feel like I was sinking into the mattress at all. The quilted cover gave quality relief at my lumbar area and also the pocketed coils helped to lift me from the mattress and keep my spine in alignment.
Side – As you can see in the chart above, once I rolled onto my side, I started to feel pressure forming at my hips and shoulders. However, I still felt supported and the top foam layers relieved what discomfort I felt in this position.
Stomach – Shifting over to my stomach, I believed that the DreamCloud did a fantastic job of lifting my hips upward and out of the mattress, which is crucial for stomach sleepers. I should mention that I was able to shift across these positions with relative ease.
If you intend on sharing your mattress with a partner, you will want to know what it’ll feel like if another individual crawls out of bed in the break of dawn or tosses around at night. This next test is intended to demonstrate the high level of movement that is detectable from 1 side of the mattress from another. Dreamcloud Foundation Height
To show you this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 pound steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and then measured the disturbance it generated: the bigger the lines, the larger the disturbance.
The DreamCloud demonstrates a little bit of disturbance for the 4 inch drop, which simulates someone tossing around and adjusting their position on the other side of the bed. While the 8 and 12 inch drops show slightly larger spikes, I would still consider the mattress to be pretty good at isolating movement, thanks to the individually wrapped coils. This indicates you’re not likely to be overly disturbed by your bed partner’s midnight shimmies, making this an awesome solution for couples.
When purchasing a new bed, most people wish to know whether they will feel like they’re sinking”into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it. To visualize this sinkage, I put four balls of different sizes and densities (a 6 pound medicine ball, a 10 lb steel ball, a 50 pound medicine ball, and a 100 lb medicine ball) on the mattress then quantified how much they compacted the top.
The variations in size, weight and density are supposed to mimic distinct body parts and different sized sleepers. Dreamcloud Foundation Height
– 6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.
– 10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
– 50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
– 100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.
Even though you’re going to experience some immediate sinkage from the soft foam at the top, by the time you sink through these layers, you’ll hit the wrapped coils and experience amazing support. This combination will appeal to a vast range of sleepers, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers the most.
If you’re going to share your bed with a partner and will need to utilize the entire surface area of the mattress, it’s going to be crucial for you to think about the amount of edge support it will provide.
I am especially interested to see if the DreamCloud will suffer the same fate as other compacted bed-in-a-box mattresses which fail to live up to the edge support of more conventional innerspring versions.
Lying on my back, I felt as supported in the edge of the bed as I did in the center. Going closer to the side, I experienced a little compression due to the top foam layers, but nothing too dramatic.
Shifting to my side, I noticed compression in the foam layers, but it didn’t carry over to the wrapped coil system below. This system, along with the polyfoam edge support around the mattress, did a good job of supporting my body.
In this position, I wished to simulate what it would feel like to be sitting on the bed in the morning when you are tying your shoes and getting ready for work. A good deal of foam mattresses experience severe compression in this position, but the DreamCloud really held up fairly well.
