As a hybrid mattress, the DreamCloud fulfills a number of our criteria for what a excellent bed should have. With eight unique layers of support and comfort, the DreamCloud utilizes all of the right materials in its construction. Dreamcloud For Side Sleepers
From the tufted cashmere cover that provides good airflow, to the gel memory foam in the uppermost comfort layer, the DreamCloud is designed to promote a cooler night’s sleep. Below that are a mix of polyurethane foam and latex layers, meaning this bed includes better quality relaxation materials than most other hybrid beds.

Even though it uses multiple memory foam layers, there’s not any hug or significant shaping to the mattress. If you are looking to sink into a mattress, then proceed from the DreamCloud.

A pocketed coil support center keeps you aligned all night long, especially so for all you back sleepers on the market.

Construction Dreamcloud For Side Sleepers

The DreamCloud features an astoundingly tall profile for a mattress at a humongous 15 inches. The eight-layer structure is broken down to foam and wrapped coil components, which operate in tandem to provide the sleeper with a firm innerspring lift and lots of comfortable pressure relief.

Given all of the different materials at play , I am stoked to get into these layers to see how well they interact with one another. Dreamcloud For Side Sleepers

construction-1

Cover – The cover is made up of a cashmere and polyester mix for a luxuriously soft texture up top. It’s also built with memory foam, which provides the sleeper with immediate pressure relief.

Foam Layers – Below the cover, you will discover three thin layers of foam. While these sections are soft to the touch and provide some pleasing sinkage, they also react quickly to pressure, so that you won’t feel trapped in the bed. The middle of these three layers is especially important because of the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it is comprised of perforated latex foam. Latex generally is good at releasing heat, so the inclusion of these small ventilations promotes even more cooling.

Pocketed Coils – The bottom layer of foam transitions to the firmer support segment of the mattress, which is made up of a pocketed coil system. These individually wrapped springs provide the mattress excellent bounce and help to disperse motion throughout the structure. The coils also assist in regulating temperature as the distances between them permit continuous air flow.

Foundation Layer – A thin layer of high-density polyfoam is found at the base of the mattress, with the major use of cradling the pocketed coils and offering a solid foundation for the entire mattress.

Firmness

After taking a peek at the construction of the DreamCloud, let’s chat about the firmness and feel. I started off by applying mild hand pressure into the mattress and immediately felt the soft foam of the quilted cover and first layers. My hands sunk into the material and I could feel some instantaneous pressure relief. Pushing in farther, I began to interact with the pocketed coils beneath and experienced a nice lift from these springs.

At this point I want to let you know that individuals of different body types and shapes will feel firmness differently. Rather than giving just my view on the overall firmness level of this DreamCloud, I invited three additional individuals to present their view as well. This will give you a much better sense of the firmness range you can expect from the mattress.

firmness test-1

As you can find in the graph above, the testers were pretty much in agreement about the stability of this mattress, giving it an average score of 7.75. Compared to the market norm of 6.5 for medium firmness and it is clear that this bed is pretty firm.

Personally, I gave the mattress a 7.5 and agree with the rest of the testers that it’s definitely a solid bed. At the same time you’ll feel some small sinking from the plush foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils in the center will lift you out of this bed and make you feel like you’re sleeping on top of this mattress.

Pressure Map

As opposed to just describing the feel of this mattress to you, I chose to provide a visual representation of where somebody may feel pressure points form while lying on the mattress. To do this, I put a pressure map on top of the mattress and lied on my back, side, and tummy. You can find the outcomes on the picture below where pressure is denoted from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).

pressure map-1

Back – Once on my back, my weight was evenly distributed throughout the mattress, therefore I did not feel like I was sinking into the bed in any way. The quilted cover provided quality relief at my lumbar area and the pocketed coils helped to lift me out of the mattress and keep my back in alignment.

Side – As you can see in the graph above, once I rolled onto my side, I began to feel pressure forming in my shoulders and hips. But, I felt supported and the top foam layers alleviated what distress I felt in this position.

Stomach – Switching over to my stomach, I thought that the DreamCloud did a great job of lifting my hips up and out of the bed, which can be crucial for stomach sleepers. I must mention that I was able to transition across these positions with comparative ease.

Motion Transfer

If you plan on sharing your bed with a partner, you’ll want to find out what it’ll feel like when another individual crawls out of bed in the morning or tosses around during the nighttime. This next test is intended to demonstrate the intensity of movement that’s detectable from 1 side of the mattress from another. Dreamcloud For Side Sleepers

To show you this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 pound steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and then quantified the disturbance it caused: the larger the lines, the larger the disturbance.

The DreamCloud demonstrates a small amount of disturbance for the 4 inch drop, which simulates someone rolling around and adjusting their position on the other side of the bed. While the 8 and 12 inch drops show slightly larger spikes, I’d still regard the mattress to be pretty good at isolating movement, thanks to its individually wrapped coils. This indicates that you’re unlikely to be overly disturbed by your bed partner’s midnight shimmies, which makes this an awesome solution for couples.

Sinkage Test

While buying a new bed, the majority of people wish to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking”into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it. To visualize this sinkage, I put 4 balls of varying sizes and densities (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 pound steel ball, a 50 lb medicine ball, along with a 100 pound medicine ball) on the mattress and measured how much they compacted the top.

The variations in size, weight and density are supposed to simulate different body parts and different sized sleepers. Dreamcloud For Side Sleepers

6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.

10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.

50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.

100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.

While you’re likely to encounter some immediate sinkage in the soft foam at the top, by the time you sink through these layers, you’ll find the wrapped coils and feel fantastic support. This combination will interest a vast range of sleepers, but will suit stomach and back sleepers in particular.

Edge Support

If you are going to share your bed with a spouse and will need to utilize the whole surface area of the mattress, then it’s going to be crucial for you to consider the amount of edge support it’ll give you.

I am especially interested to see if the DreamCloud will endure the exact same fate as other compressed bed-in-a-box mattresses that fail to live up to the edge support of more traditional innerspring models.

Lying on my back, I felt just as supported at the edge of the bed as I did at the middle. Going closer to the side, I experienced a bit of compression due to the highest foam layers, but nothing too dramatic.

Shifting to my side, I noticed compression in the foam layers, but it didn’t carry over to the wrapped coil system below. This system, along with the polyfoam edge support round the mattress, did a good job of supporting my weight.

In this position, I wished to simulate what it’d feel like to be sitting on the bed in the morning when you are lacing up your shoes and getting ready for the day. A lot of foam mattresses undergo a lot of compression in this position, but the DreamCloud actually held up fairly good.
