Because it’s a hybrid mattress, the DreamCloud fulfills many of our standards for what a quality mattress must have. With eight exceptional layers of comfort and support, the DreamCloud utilizes all of the right materials in its construction. Dreamcloud Construction
From the tufted cashmere cover that provides good airflow, to the gel memory foam at the uppermost comfort layer, the DreamCloud is designed to deliver a cooler night’s sleep. Below that are a mixture of memory foam and latex layers, meaning this bed includes better quality relaxation materials than most other hybrid mattresses.
Despite the fact that it uses multiple memory foam layers, there’s no hug or significant contouring to the bed. If you are searching to sink into a mattress, move on from the DreamCloud.
A pocketed coil support core keeps you aligned all night long, particularly so for all you back sleepers on the market.

The DreamCloud has an astoundingly tall profile for a mattress at a whopping 15 inches. The eight-layer construction is broken down into foam and wrapped coil parts, which operate in tandem to supply the sleeper with a firm innerspring lift and lots of comfortable pressure relief.
Given all the distinct materials at play here, I am stoked to get into these layers to see how well they interact together. Dreamcloud Construction
Cover – The cover is made up of a cashmere and polyester blend for a luxuriously soft feel up top. Additionally, it is quilted with memory foam, which provides the sleeper with instant pressure relief.
Foam Layers – Below the cover, you will find three thin layers of foam. While these segments are soft to the touch and supply some satisfying sinkage, they also respond quickly to pressure, so that you won’t feel trapped in the mattress. The middle of the three layers is especially essential for the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it’s comprised of perforated latex foam. Latex in general is good at dissipating heat, so the addition of these tiny ventilations encourages more cooling.
Pocketed Coils – The bottom layer of polyurethane transitions into the firmer support section of this mattress, which is composed of a pocketed coil system. These individually wrapped springs provide the bed excellent bounce and help disperse motion throughout the mattress. The coils also assist in regulating temperatures as the distances between them allow for steady air flow.
Foundation Layer – A thin layer of high-density polyfoam lies in the bottom of the mattress, with the major function of cradling the pocketed coils and offering a solid foundation for the entire mattress.
After taking a look at the construction of the DreamCloud, let us talk about the firmness and texture. I started off by putting light hand pressure to the mattress and immediately felt the soft foam of the quilted cover and first layers. My hands flowed into the material and I could sense some instant pressure relief. Pushing in further, I began to interact with the pocketed coils beneath and experienced a pleasant lift from the springs.
At this point I want to note that people of different body shapes and types will feel firmness differently. As opposed to giving only my view on the overall firmness level of this DreamCloud, I invited three additional individuals to present their view too. This will give you a much better sense of the firmness range you can expect from the bed.
As you can see in the chart above, the testers were in agreement about the firmness of the mattress, giving it an average score of 7.75. Compare this to the industry norm of 6.5 for moderate firmness and it is clear that this bed is pretty firm.
Personally, I gave the mattress a 7.5 and concur with the rest of the testers that it’s definitely a solid mattress. At the same time you’ll feel some slight sinking from the plush foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils in the center will lift you from the mattress and make you feel as though you’re sleeping on top of this mattress.
Rather than simply explaining the feel of the DreamCloud for you, I chose to provide a visual representation of where somebody may feel pressure points shape while lying on it. To do so, I placed a pressure map on top of the mattress and lied on my backside, and stomach. You can find the results on the image below where pressure is denoted from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back – Once on my back, my weight was evenly distributed across the mattress, so I did not feel as though I was sinking into the bed in any way. The quilted cover provided quality relief at my lumbar area and the pocketed coils helped to lift me from the mattress and keep my spine in alignment.
Side – As you can see in the chart above, once I rolled onto my side, I began to feel pressure forming in my hips and shoulders. However, I still felt supported while the top foam layers relieved what distress I felt in this position.
Stomach – Shifting over to my belly, I believed the DreamCloud did a great job of lifting my hips up and out of the bed, which can be key for stomach sleepers. I must mention that I managed to transition across these positions with comparative ease.
If you intend on sharing your bed with a partner, you’ll want to know what it’ll feel like if the other individual crawls out of bed in the morning or tosses around during the night. This next test is meant to demonstrate the high level of motion that is detectable from 1 side of the mattress to another. Dreamcloud Construction
To show you this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 lb steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and then measured the disturbance it caused: the bigger the lines, the bigger the disturbance.
The DreamCloud demonstrates a small amount of disturbance for the 4 inch drop, which simulates somebody rolling around and adjusting their position on the other side of the mattress. While the 8 and 12 inch drops reveal slightly larger spikes, I’d still consider the mattress to be quite good at isolating motion, thanks to the individually wrapped coils. This means that you’re not likely to be too disturbed by your bed partner’s midnight shimmies, making this a great option for couples.
When buying a new bed, the majority of people want to know whether they will feel like they’re sinking”into” the bed or lying “on top” of it. To visualize this sinkage, I placed four balls of varying sizes and densities (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 lb steel ball, a 50 pound medicine ball, along with a 100 pound medicine ball) on the mattress and quantified how much they compressed the surface.
The variations in size, density and weight are supposed to mimic different body parts and different sized sleepers. Dreamcloud Construction
– 6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.
– 10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
– 50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
– 100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.
While you’re likely to encounter some instant sinkage from the soft foam at the top, by the time you sink through those layers, you are going to find the wrapped coils and experience fantastic support. This combination will interest a vast assortment of sleepers, but will suit stomach and back sleepers in particular.
If you’re going to share your bed with a partner and need to utilize the whole surface area of the mattress, then it’s likely to be crucial for you to consider the amount of edge support it will give you.
I am especially interested to see if the DreamCloud will suffer the same fate as other compressed bed-in-a-box mattresses which fail to live up to the edge support of more traditional innerspring versions.
Lying on my back, I felt as supported in the edge of the mattress as I did in the center. Pressing closer to the side, I felt a bit of compression because of the highest foam layers, but nothing overly dramatic.
Shifting to my side, I noticed compression in the foam layers, but it did not carry over to the coil system below. This system, along with the polyfoam edge support around the mattress, did a great job of supporting my body.
In this position, I wanted to simulate what it’d feel like to be sitting on the mattress in the morning when you are tying your shoes and getting ready for work. A lot of foam mattresses undergo a lot of compression in this position, but the DreamCloud really held up fairly well.
