Because it’s a hybrid mattress, the DreamCloud fulfills many of our criteria for what a excellent bed must provide. With eight unique layers of support and comfort, the DreamCloud uses all of the proper materials in its construction. Dreamcloud Competitors
From the tufted cashmere cover that gives good airflow, to the gel memory foam in the uppermost comfort layer, the DreamCloud is designed to deliver a cooler night’s sleep. Below that are a mix of polyurethane foam and latex layers, meaning this mattress includes better quality relaxation materials than most other hybrid mattresses.

Despite the fact that it uses multiple memory foam layers, there is not any hug or significant contouring to the bed. If you are searching to sink into a mattress, move on from the DreamCloud.

A pocketed coil support core keeps you aligned all night long, particularly for all you back sleepers on the market.

Construction Dreamcloud Competitors

The DreamCloud has a tall profile for a mattress at a whopping 15 inches. The eight-layer construction is broken down into foam and wrapped coil components, which work in tandem to provide the sleeper with a firm innerspring lift and lots of comfy pressure relief.

Given all of the different materials at play , I’m stoked to dive into these layers to understand how well they interact together. Dreamcloud Competitors

construction-1

Cover – The cover is made up of a cashmere and polyester blend for a soft texture up top. Additionally, it is built with memory foam, which supplies the sleeper with instant relaxation.

Foam Layers – Below the cover, you will discover three thin layers of polyurethane. While these segments are soft to the touch and supply some satisfying sinkage, they also respond quickly to pressure, so that you won’t feel trapped in the bed. The center of the three layers is particularly important because of the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it is made up of perforated latex foam. Latex generally is good at releasing heat, so the inclusion of these small ventilations encourages even more cooling.

Pocketed Coils – The bottom layer of polyurethane transitions to the firmer support section of the mattress, which is composed of a pocketed coil system. These individually wrapped springs give the bed excellent bounce and help to disperse motion throughout the mattress. The coils also aid in regulating temperature as the spaces between them permit continuous air flow.

Foundation Layer – A thin layer of high-density polyfoam is found at the base of the mattress, with the major function of cradling the pocketed coils and providing a solid foundation for the whole mattress.

Firmness

After taking a look at the construction of the DreamCloud, let’s chat about the firmness and feel. I started off by applying mild hand pressure into the mattress and immediately felt the soft foam of the quilted cover and top layers. My hand sunk into the material and I could feel some instantaneous pressure relief. Pushing in further, I began to interact with the pocketed coils below and experienced a pleasant lift from the springs.

Now I want to note that individuals of different body types and shapes will feel firmness differently. As opposed to giving just my opinion on the general firmness level of this mattress, I invited three other individuals to present their opinion as well. This will provide you with a better sense of the firmness range you may see from the bed.

firmness test-1

As you can see in the chart above, the testers were pretty much in agreement about the stability of the mattress, giving it a mean rating of 7.75. Compared to the market norm of 6.5 for medium firmness and it’s apparent that this mattress is really firm.

I personally gave the bed a 7.5 and agree with the other testers that it’s definitely a solid mattress. While you’ll feel some small sinking because of the plush foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils in the center will lift you out of the mattress and make you feel like you’re sleeping on top of this mattress.

Pressure Map

Rather than simply explaining the feel of this DreamCloud to you, I chose to give a visual representation of where someone may feel pressure points form while lying on the mattress. To do so, I placed a pressure map above the bed and lied on my back, side, and tummy. You can find the outcomes on the picture below where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).

pressure map-1

Back – Once on my backside, my weight was equally distributed across the mattress, so I didn’t feel as though I was sinking into the mattress at all. The quilted cover gave quality relief in my lumbar region and the pocketed coils helped to lift me out of the mattress and keep my back in alignment.

Side – As you can see in the chart above, after I rolled onto my side, I started to feel pressure forming at my shoulders and hips. However, I felt supported and the top foam layers alleviated what discomfort I felt in this position.

Stomach – Switching over to my belly, I thought the DreamCloud did a great job of lifting my hips up and out of the bed, which can be crucial for stomach sleepers. I should mention that I managed to shift across these positions with comparative ease.

Motion Transfer

If you plan on sharing your bed with a partner, you will want to know what it will feel like if the other individual crawls out of bed in the morning or tosses around during the nighttime. This next test is intended to demonstrate the intensity of motion that is detectable from 1 side of the mattress to another. Dreamcloud Competitors

To illustrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 pound steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and then measured the disturbance it generated: the bigger the lines, the larger the disturbance.

The DreamCloud demonstrates a little bit of disturbance for the four inch drop, which simulates someone tossing around and adjusting their position on the other side of the mattress. While the 8 and 12 inch drops show slightly bigger spikes, I’d still regard the mattress to be quite good at isolating movement, thanks to its individually wrapped coils. This means you’re not likely to be too disturbed by your bed partner’s midnight shimmies, which makes this a great option for couples.

Sinkage Test

While purchasing a new bed, the majority of people want to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking”into” the bed or laying “on top” of it. To picture this sinkage, I put 4 balls of varying sizes and densities (a 6 pound medicine ball, a 10 lb steel ball, a 50 pound medicine ball, and a 100 lb medicine ball) on the mattress then quantified how much they compacted the top.

The variations in size, density and weight are supposed to simulate different body parts and different sized sleepers. Dreamcloud Competitors

6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.

10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.

50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.

100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.

While you’re going to experience some immediate sinkage in the soft foam at the top, by the time you sink through those layers, you’ll hit the wrapped coils and experience fantastic support. This combination will appeal to a wide assortment of sleepers, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers the most.

Edge Support

If you’re going to share your mattress with a spouse and need to utilize the entire surface area of the mattress, then it’s going to be crucial that you consider the amount of edge support it’ll provide.

I’m particularly interested to see whether the DreamCloud will endure the same fate as other compacted bed-in-a-box mattresses that fail to live up to the edge support of more conventional innerspring versions.

Lying on my back, I felt just as supported in the edge of the bed as I did in the center. Going closer to the side, I felt a bit of compression because of the highest foam layers, but nothing overly dramatic.

Changing to my side, I noticed compression in the foam layers, but it didn’t carry over to the wrapped coil system beneath. This system, along with the polyfoam edge support around the mattress, did a great job of supporting my body.

In this position, I wanted to simulate what it’d feel like to be sitting on the bed in the morning when you’re tying your shoes and getting ready for work. A lot of foam mattresses experience a lot of compression in this position, but the DreamCloud actually held up fairly well.
