From the tufted cashmere cover that provides good airflow, to the gel memory foam in the uppermost comfort layer, the DreamCloud is designed to deliver a cooler night’s sleep. Below that are a mix of memory foam and latex layers, meaning this bed contains better quality relaxation materials than most other hybrid mattresses.
Even though it utilizes multiple memory foam layers, there’s no hug or significant contouring to the mattress. If you are looking to sink into a mattress, then proceed from the DreamCloud.

Construction Dreamcloud Bed Instructions
The DreamCloud has an astoundingly tall profile for a mattress at a humongous 15 inches. The eight-layer construction is broken down into foam and wrapped coil parts, which work in tandem to supply the sleeper with a firm innerspring lift and plenty of comfy pressure relief.
Given all of the distinct materials at play , I am stoked to dive into these layers to understand how well they interact with one another. Dreamcloud Bed Instructions
Cover – The cover is composed of a cashmere and polyester mix for a soft texture up top. It’s also quilted with memory foam, which provides the sleeper with instant pressure relief.
Foam Layers – Under the cover, you’ll find three thin layers of polyurethane. While these segments are soft to the touch and provide some pleasing sinkage, they also react quickly to pressure, so you won’t feel stuck in the mattress. The middle of the three layers is especially important for the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it’s made up of perforated latex foam. Latex generally is good at dissipating heat, so the addition of these tiny ventilations promotes even more cooling.
Pocketed Coils – The bottom layer of polyurethane transitions into the firmer support section of the mattress, which is composed of a pocketed coil system. These individually wrapped springs give the mattress excellent bounce and help to disperse motion throughout the mattress. The coils also assist in moderating temperatures as the spaces between them permit steady air flow.
Foundation Layer – A thin layer of high-density polyfoam is found in the bottom of the mattress, with the major use of cradling the pocketed coils and providing a sound foundation for the whole mattress.
After taking a look at the construction of the DreamCloud, let’s chat about the firmness and texture. I started off by applying mild hand pressure to the mattress and immediately felt the soft foam of the quilted cover and top layers. My hand flowed into the material and I could feel some instant pressure relief. Pushing in farther, I started to interact with the pocketed coils beneath and experienced a pleasant lift from the springs.
Now I’d like to note that people of different body types and shapes will feel firmness differently. As opposed to giving only my view on the general firmness level of the mattress, I invited three other people to give their opinion as well. This will provide you with a better feeling of the firmness range you can expect from the mattress.
As you can see in the graph above, the testers were in agreement about the firmness of this mattress, giving it a mean rating of 7.75. Compared to the market norm of 6.5 for moderate firmness and it is apparent that this mattress is really firm.
Personally, I gave the bed a 7.5 and agree with the rest of the testers that it’s definitely a good bed. While you’ll feel some slight sinking from the lavish foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils at the core will lift you out of this mattress and make you feel like you’re sleeping on top of the mattress.
Rather than simply describing the feel of this mattress to you, I wanted to give a visual representation of where somebody may feel pressure points form while lying on the mattress. To do this, I put a pressure map above the mattress and lied on my backside, and tummy. You can find the results on the picture below where pressure is denoted from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back – When on my backside, my weight was equally distributed throughout the mattress, therefore I didn’t feel as though I was sinking into the mattress at all. The quilted cover gave quality relief at my lumbar region and the pocketed coils helped lift me from the mattress and keep my back in alignment.
Side – As you can see in the chart above, after I rolled onto my side, I began to feel pressure forming in my shoulders and hips. However, I felt supported while the top foam layers relieved what distress I felt in this position.
Stomach – Switching over to my stomach, I believed that the DreamCloud did a fantastic job of lifting my hips upward and out of the bed, which can be key for stomach sleepers. I must mention that I was able to shift across these positions with comparative ease.
If you plan on sharing your mattress with a spouse, you will want to find out what it will feel like if the other individual crawls out of bed in the break of dawn or tosses around at nighttime. This next test is meant to demonstrate the high level of movement that is detectable from one side of the mattress to the other. Dreamcloud Bed Instructions
To illustrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 lb steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and quantified the disturbance it generated: the larger the lines, the bigger the disturbance.
The DreamCloud demonstrates a little bit of disturbance for the 4 inch drop, which simulates someone rolling around and adjusting their position on the other side of the mattress. While the 8 and 12 inch drops show slightly larger spikes, I would still consider the mattress to be pretty good at isolating motion, thanks to the individually wrapped coils. This indicates that you’re unlikely to be overly disturbed by your bed partner’s midnight shimmies, which makes this a great option for couples.
When purchasing a new mattress, most men and women wish to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking”into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it. To picture this sinkage, I put four balls of varying sizes and densities (a 6 pound medicine ball, a 10 pound steel ball, a 50 pound medicine ball, along with a 100 lb medicine ball) on the mattress then measured how much they compacted the top.
The variations in size, density and weight are meant to mimic different body parts and different sized sleepers. Dreamcloud Bed Instructions
– 6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.
– 10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
– 50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
– 100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.
While you’re going to encounter some immediate sinkage in the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through these layers, you’ll find the wrapped coils and experience amazing support. This combo will interest a vast assortment of sleepers, but will suit back and stomach sleepers in particular.
If you’re going to share your mattress with a partner and need to utilize the entire surface area of the mattress, it is likely to be crucial that you consider the amount of edge support it will provide.
I am especially interested to see whether the DreamCloud will endure the same fate as other compacted bed-in-a-box mattresses that fail to fulfill the edge support of more traditional innerspring models.
Laying on my back, I felt as supported in the edge of the bed as I did at the center. Going closer to the side, I experienced a bit of compression because of the top foam layers, but nothing too dramatic.
Shifting to my side, I noticed compression in the foam layers, but it didn’t carry over to the coil system below. This system, together with the polyfoam edge support around the mattress, did a great job of supporting my weight.
In this position, I wanted to simulate what it’d feel like to be sitting on the bed in the morning when you’re lacing up your shoes and getting ready for work. A lot of foam mattresses experience a lot of compression in this position, but the DreamCloud actually held up fairly good.
