Because it’s a hybrid mattress, the DreamCloud meets a number of our standards for what a quality bed should have. With eight unique layers of support and comfort, the DreamCloud uses all of the right materials in its construction. Dreamcloud At Mattress Firm
From the tufted cashmere cover that provides great airflow, to the gel memory foam at the uppermost comfort layer, the DreamCloud is designed to deliver a cooler night’s sleep. Below that are a mixture of memory foam and latex layers, meaning this bed contains better quality comfort materials than most other hybrid beds.
Despite the fact that it utilizes multiple memory foam layers, there’s no hug or significant contouring to the mattress. If you are searching to sink into a mattress, then proceed from the DreamCloud.

Construction Dreamcloud At Mattress Firm
The DreamCloud features an astoundingly tall profile for a mattress at a whopping 15 inches. The eight-layer structure is broken down to foam and wrapped coil parts, which work in tandem to provide the sleeper with a firm innerspring lift and lots of comfy pressure relief.
Given all the different materials at play here, I’m stoked to get into these layers to see how well they interact together. Dreamcloud At Mattress Firm
Cover – The cover is composed of a cashmere and polyester mix for a soft texture up top. It’s also quilted with memory foam, which provides the sleeper with immediate pressure relief.
Foam Layers – Below the cover, you will discover three thin layers of foam. While these segments are soft to the touch and supply some pleasing sinkage, they also respond quickly to pressure, so that you won’t feel stuck in the bed. The center of the three layers is especially essential because of the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it is comprised of perforated latex foam. Latex generally is good at dissipating heat, so the inclusion of these tiny ventilations encourages even more cooling.
Pocketed Coils – The bottom layer of foam transitions into the firmer support section of this mattress, which is made up of a pocketed coil system. These individually wrapped springs provide the mattress excellent rebound and assist to disperse motion throughout the mattress. The coils also assist in moderating temperatures as the distances between them allow for continuous air flow.
Foundation Layer – A thin layer of high-density polyfoam is found at the bottom of the mattress, with the major function of cradling the pocketed coils and offering a solid foundation for the entire mattress.
After having a peek at the construction of the DreamCloud, let’s chat about the firmness and texture. I started off by putting mild hand pressure into the bed and immediately felt the soft foam of the quilted cover and first layers. My hands sunk into the material and I could feel some instantaneous pressure relief. Pushing in farther, I started to interact with the pocketed coils beneath and experienced a pleasant lift from these springs.
At this point I want to let you know that people of different body shapes and types will feel firmness differently. Rather than giving just my opinion on the overall firmness level of this DreamCloud, I enlisted three other individuals to give their opinion too. This will give you a much better feeling of the firmness range you can expect from the mattress.
As you can find in the graph above, the testers were pretty much in agreement about the firmness of this DreamCloud, giving it an average score of 7.75. Compared to the market norm of 6.5 for moderate firmness and it is apparent that this bed is really firm.
Personally, I gave the bed a 7.5 and agree with the other testers that it’s definitely a solid mattress. While you’ll feel some slight sinking from the plush foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils at the core will lift you from this mattress and make you feel like you’re sleeping on top of this mattress.
As opposed to just explaining the feel of the mattress for you, I chose to provide a visual representation of where somebody may feel pressure points shape while lying on it. To do so, I put a pressure map above the bed and lied on my back, side, and stomach. You can see the results on the image below where pressure is denoted from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back – When on my backside, my weight was equally dispersed throughout the mattress, so I did not feel like I was sinking into the bed in any way. The quilted cover provided quality relief in my lumbar region and also the pocketed coils helped to lift me out of the bed and keep my back in alignment.
Side – As you can see in the chart above, after I rolled onto my side, I started to feel pressure forming at my shoulders and hips. But, I felt supported and the top foam layers relieved what distress I felt in this position.
Stomach – Shifting over to my stomach, I believed that the DreamCloud did a great job of lifting my hips up and from the mattress, which is key for stomach sleepers. I must mention that I was able to shift across these positions with relative ease.
If you plan on sharing your bed with a partner, you will want to find out what it will feel like if another person crawls out of bed in the morning or tosses around at nighttime. This next test is intended to demonstrate the intensity of motion that is detectable from one side of the mattress from the other. Dreamcloud At Mattress Firm
To show you this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 lb steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and quantified the disturbance it caused: the bigger the lines, the larger the disturbance.
The DreamCloud demonstrates a small amount of disturbance for the four inch drop, which simulates someone rolling around and adjusting their position on the opposite side of the bed. While the 8 and 12 inch drops show slightly bigger spikes, I would still regard the mattress to be quite good at isolating movement, thanks to its individually wrapped coils. This indicates that you’re not likely to be too disturbed by your bed partner’s midnight shimmies, which makes this an awesome solution for couples.
When buying a new bed, the majority of men and women wish to know whether they will feel as though they’re sinking”into” the bed or lying “on top” of it. To picture this sinkage, I put four balls of different sizes and densities (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 pound steel ball, a 50 pound medicine ball, and a 100 lb medicine ball) on the mattress and quantified how much they compacted the top.
The variations in size, density and weight are supposed to simulate distinct body parts and different sized sleepers. Dreamcloud At Mattress Firm
– 6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.
– 10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
– 50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
– 100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.
Even though you’re going to encounter some instant sinkage in the soft foam at the top, by the time you sink through those layers, you’ll find the wrapped coils and experience amazing support. This combo will interest a vast assortment of sleepers, but will suit stomach and back sleepers the most.
If you’re going to share your bed with a partner and need to utilize the whole surface area of the mattress, it is going to be crucial for you to think about the amount of edge support it will give you.
I am particularly interested to determine if the DreamCloud will suffer the exact same fate as other compressed bed-in-a-box mattresses which fail to live up to the edge support of more traditional innerspring models.
Laying on my back, I felt as supported at the edge of the bed as I did at the center. Going closer to the side, I felt a little compression due to the highest foam layers, but nothing too dramatic.
Shifting to my side, I noticed compression in the foam layers, but it did not carry over into the wrapped coil system below. This system, along with the polyfoam edge support round the mattress, did a great job of supporting my weight.
In this position, I wanted to simulate what it’d feel like to be sitting on the bed in the morning when you are lacing up your shoes and getting ready for the day. A good deal of foam mattresses undergo a lot of compression in this position, but the DreamCloud really held up fairly well.
