As a hybrid mattress, the DreamCloud meets many of our criteria for what a excellent mattress must have. With eight exceptional layers of support and comfort, the DreamCloud uses all of the right materials in its construction. Dreamcloud Arctic 10″
From the tufted cashmere cover that gives good airflow, to the gel memory foam in the uppermost comfort layer, the DreamCloud is designed to promote a cooler night’s sleep. Below that are a mix of memory foam and latex layers, meaning this mattress contains better quality comfort materials than most other hybrid mattresses.

Even though it utilizes multiple memory foam layers, there is not any hug or significant contouring to the bed. If you are looking to sink into a mattress, then proceed from the DreamCloud.

A pocketed coil support center keeps you aligned all night long, particularly for all you back sleepers on the market.

Construction Dreamcloud Arctic 10″

The DreamCloud features an astoundingly tall profile for a mattress at a whopping 15 inches. The eight-layer structure is broken down into foam and wrapped coil parts, which operate in tandem to provide the sleeper with a firm innerspring lift and plenty of comfortable pressure relief.

Given all the distinct materials at play , I’m stoked to dive into these layers to understand how well they interact together. Dreamcloud Arctic 10″

construction-1

Cover – The cover is made up of a cashmere and polyester blend for a soft feel up top. Additionally, it is quilted with memory foam, which supplies the sleeper with immediate pressure relief.

Foam Layers – Under the cover, you’ll find three thin layers of polyurethane. While these segments are soft to the touch and supply some pleasing sinkage, they also respond quickly to pressure, so you won’t feel stuck in the mattress. The center of these three layers is particularly essential because of the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it’s comprised of perforated latex foam. Latex generally is great at dissipating heat, so the addition of those small ventilations encourages even more cooling.

Pocketed Coils – The bottom layer of polyurethane transitions into the firmer support section of the mattress, which is made up of a pocketed coil system. These individually wrapped springs provide the bed excellent bounce and help to disperse motion throughout the structure. The coils also aid in moderating temperatures as the spaces between them permit steady air flow.

Foundation Layer – A thin layer of high-density polyfoam is found in the bottom of the mattress, with the main use of cradling the pocketed coils and offering a sound foundation for the whole mattress.

Firmness

After having a peek at the construction of the DreamCloud, let’s chat about the firmness and feel. I started off by applying light hand pressure into the mattress and immediately felt the soft foam of the quilted cover and top layers. My hand flowed into the material and I could feel some instantaneous pressure relief. Pushing in farther, I began to interact with all the pocketed coils beneath and experienced a nice lift from these springs.

At this point I’d like to let you know that people of different body types and shapes will feel firmness differently. As opposed to giving just my opinion on the general firmness level of this mattress, I enlisted three other individuals to give their opinion as well. This will give you a much better feeling of the firmness range you can see from the bed.

firmness test-1

As you can find in the graph above, the testers were pretty much in agreement about the stability of this DreamCloud, giving it an average rating of 7.75. Compare this to the industry standard of 6.5 for moderate firmness and it is apparent that this bed is pretty firm.

Personally, I gave the mattress a 7.5 and concur with the rest of the testers that it’s definitely a good mattress. While you’ll feel some small sinking from the plush foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils in the center will lift you from the bed and make you feel as though you’re sleeping on top of this mattress.

Pressure Map

As opposed to just explaining the feel of this DreamCloud to you, I wanted to give a visual representation of where somebody may feel pressure points shape while lying on it. To do so, I put a pressure map on top of the bed and lied on my backside, and stomach. You can see the outcomes on the image below where pressure is denoted from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).

pressure map-1

Back – When on my back, my weight was equally distributed throughout the mattress, so I did not feel as though I was sinking into the bed in any way. The quilted cover gave quality relief in my lumbar region and the pocketed coils helped lift me out of the bed and keep my spine in alignment.

Side – As you can see in the chart above, after I rolled onto my side, I began to feel pressure forming in my hips and shoulders. But, I still felt supported while the top foam layers relieved what discomfort I felt in this position.

Stomach – Shifting over to my belly, I believed that the DreamCloud did a fantastic job of lifting my hips upward and from the mattress, which is key for stomach sleepers. I should mention that I was able to transition across these positions with comparative ease.

Motion Transfer

If you plan on sharing your bed with a partner, you’ll want to find out what it’ll feel like if the other individual crawls out of bed in the break of dawn or tosses around at nighttime. This next test is meant to demonstrate the high level of movement that is detectable from 1 side of the mattress to another. Dreamcloud Arctic 10″

To illustrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 pound steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and then measured the disturbance it generated: the bigger the lines, the bigger the disturbance.

The DreamCloud demonstrates a small amount of disturbance for the four inch drop, which simulates somebody rolling around and adjusting their position on the other side of the bed. While the 8 and 12 inch drops reveal slightly bigger spikes, I’d still consider the mattress to be pretty good at isolating motion, as a result of its individually wrapped coils. This means that you’re not likely to be too disturbed by your bed partner’s midnight shimmies, which makes this an awesome solution for couples.

Sinkage Test

While buying a new bed, the majority of men and women want to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking”into” the bed or laying “on top” of it. To visualize this sinkage, I placed 4 balls of different sizes and densities (a 6 pound medicine ball, a 10 pound steel ball, a 50 pound medicine ball, and a 100 pound medicine ball) on the mattress and measured how much they compacted the top.

The variations in size, weight and density are supposed to mimic different body parts and different sized sleepers. Dreamcloud Arctic 10″

6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.

10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.

50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.

100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.

Even though you’re going to experience some instant sinkage in the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through those layers, you’ll find the wrapped coils and feel fantastic support. This combination will interest a vast range of sleepers, but will suit back and stomach sleepers in particular.

Edge Support

If you’re going to share your mattress with a spouse and need to use the entire surface area of the mattress, then it’s likely to be crucial for you to think about the amount of edge support it will provide.

I am especially interested to see whether the DreamCloud will endure the exact same fate as other compressed bed-in-a-box mattresses that fail to live up to the edge support of more conventional innerspring versions.

Laying on my back, I felt as supported at the edge of the mattress as I did at the middle. Going closer to the side, I experienced a little compression due to the highest foam layers, but nothing too dramatic.

Shifting to my side, I once again noticed compression in the foam layers, but it didn’t carry over to the wrapped coil system under. This system, together with the polyfoam edge support round the mattress, did a great job of supporting my weight.

In this position, I wished to simulate what it’d feel like to be sitting on top of the bed in the morning when you are lacing up your shoes and getting ready for work. A good deal of foam mattresses experience a lot of compression in this position, but the DreamCloud actually held up fairly well.
