Because it’s a hybrid mattress, the DreamCloud meets a number of our standards for what a excellent bed should have. With eight exceptional layers of support and comfort, the DreamCloud uses all the right materials in its construction. DreamCloud Adjustable Base Review
From the tufted cashmere cover that gives great airflow, to the gel memory foam at the uppermost comfort layer, the DreamCloud was made to deliver a cooler night’s sleep. Below that are a mix of polyurethane foam and latex layers, meaning this bed contains better quality comfort materials than most other hybrid beds.
Even though it utilizes multiple memory foam layers, there is no hug or significant shaping to the mattress. If you are searching to sink into a mattress, then move on from the DreamCloud.
A pocketed coil support core keeps you aligned all night long, particularly for all you back sleepers out there.

Construction DreamCloud Adjustable Base Review
The DreamCloud features an astoundingly tall profile for a mattress at a humongous 15 inches. The eight-layer structure is broken down into foam and wrapped coil components, which operate in tandem to supply the sleeper with a strong innerspring lift and plenty of comfortable pressure relief.
Given all the different materials at play here, I’m stoked to dive into these layers to see how well they interact with one another. DreamCloud Adjustable Base Review
Cover – The cover is composed of a cashmere and polyester mix for a soft feel up top. It’s also quilted with memory foam, which supplies the sleeper with instant relaxation.
Foam Layers – Under the cover, you will discover three thin layers of polyurethane. While these sections are soft to the touch and provide some pleasing sinkage, they also respond quickly to pressure, so that you won’t feel trapped in the bed. The center of these three layers is especially essential for the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it’s comprised of perforated latex foam. Latex generally is great at dissipating heat, so the inclusion of those small ventilations promotes more cooling.
Pocketed Coils – The base layer of foam transitions into the firmer support segment of the mattress, which is composed of a pocketed coil system. These individually wrapped springs give the bed excellent bounce and help to disperse motion throughout the structure. The coils also assist in moderating temperatures as the spaces between them allow for steady air flow.
Foundation Layer – A thin layer of high-density polyfoam is found at the bottom of the mattress, with the major function of cradling the pocketed coils and providing a solid foundation for the whole mattress.
After having a peek at the construction of the DreamCloud, let us talk about the firmness and texture. I started off by putting mild hand pressure to the bed and immediately felt the soft foam of the quilted cover and first layers. My hands sunk into the material and I could sense some instant pressure relief. Pushing in further, I started to interact with all the pocketed coils below and experienced a nice lift from the springs.
At this point I want to note that people of different body shapes and types will feel firmness differently. As opposed to giving only my view on the general firmness level of this DreamCloud, I enlisted three other individuals to present their view too. This will give you a much better sense of the firmness range you may expect from the bed.
As you can find in the graph above, the testers were pretty much in agreement about the firmness of the mattress, giving it a mean score of 7.75. Compared to the market norm of 6.5 for moderate firmness and it’s apparent that this bed is really firm.
Personally, I gave the bed a 7.5 and agree with the rest of the testers that it’s definitely a good mattress. At the same time you’ll feel some slight sinking from the plush foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils in the center will lift you from the bed and make you feel like you’re sleeping on top of the mattress.
Rather than simply explaining the feel of the mattress for you, I wanted to provide a visual representation of where somebody may feel pressure points shape while lying on the mattress. To do this, I placed a pressure map on top of the mattress and lied on my back, side, and tummy. You can see the results on the picture below where pressure is denoted from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back – When on my back, my weight was evenly distributed across the mattress, so I did not feel as though I was sinking into the bed at all. The quilted cover gave quality relief in my lumbar area and also the pocketed coils helped lift me from the bed and keep my back in alignment.
Side – As you can see in the graph above, once I rolled onto my side, I started to feel pressure forming at my hips and shoulders. However, I still felt supported and the top foam layers alleviated what distress I felt in this position.
Stomach – Shifting over to my stomach, I believed that the DreamCloud did a great job of lifting my hips up and from the mattress, which is key for stomach sleepers. I should mention that I was able to shift across these positions with relative ease.
If you plan on sharing your bed with a spouse, you will want to find out what it’ll feel like if the other individual crawls out of bed in the morning or tosses around at night. This next test is intended to demonstrate the intensity of motion that is detectable from 1 side of the mattress from the other. DreamCloud Adjustable Base Review
To show you this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 lb steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and quantified the disturbance it caused: the larger the lines, the bigger the disturbance.
The DreamCloud demonstrates a little bit of disturbance for the 4 inch drop, which simulates somebody tossing around and adjusting their position on the other side of the bed. While the 8 and 12 inch drops reveal slightly larger spikes, I would still regard the mattress to be quite good at isolating motion, as a result of the individually wrapped coils. This indicates that you’re unlikely to be overly disturbed by your mattress partner’s midnight shimmies, making this an awesome solution for couples.
While purchasing a new bed, most men and women wish to know whether they will feel like they’re sinking”into” the bed or lying “on top” of it. To picture this sinkage, I put four balls of varying sizes and densities (a 6 pound medicine ball, a 10 lb steel ball, a 50 pound medicine ball, along with a 100 pound medicine ball) on the mattress then quantified how much they compressed the surface.
The variations in size, weight and density are supposed to mimic distinct body parts and different sized sleepers. DreamCloud Adjustable Base Review
– 6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.
– 10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
– 50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
– 100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.
While you’re likely to encounter some immediate sinkage in the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through those layers, you’ll hit the wrapped coils and experience fantastic support. This combo will appeal to a wide assortment of sleepers, but will suit back and stomach sleepers in particular.
If you are going to share your mattress with a partner and will need to use the whole surface area of the mattress, it is likely to be crucial for you to think about the amount of edge support it’ll give you.
I’m particularly interested to see if the DreamCloud will suffer the same fate as other compressed bed-in-a-box mattresses that fail to live up to the edge support of more traditional innerspring models.
Laying on my back, I felt as supported in the edge of the bed as I did at the middle. Pressing closer to the side, I experienced a bit of compression due to the highest foam layers, but nothing overly dramatic.
Changing to my side, I once again noticed compression in the foam layers, but it did not carry over into the coil system beneath. This system, along with the polyfoam edge support around the mattress, did a great job of supporting my body.
In this position, I wished to simulate what it’d feel like to be sitting on top of the bed in the morning when you are tying your shoes and getting ready for work. A good deal of foam mattresses undergo severe compression in this position, but the DreamCloud actually held up fairly well.
