Construction Dream Cloud Warranty
The DreamCloud has a tall profile for a mattress at a humongous 15 inches. The eight-layer construction is broken down to foam and wrapped coil parts, which work in tandem to supply the sleeper with a firm innerspring lift and lots of comfortable pressure relief.
Given all of the distinct materials at play , I am stoked to get into these layers to see how well they interact with one another. Dream Cloud Warranty
Cover – The cover is made up of a cashmere and polyester blend for a luxuriously soft feel up top. Additionally, it is quilted with memory foam, which supplies the sleeper with immediate relaxation.
Foam Layers – Below the cover, you will discover three thin layers of polyurethane. While these sections are soft to the touch and provide some pleasing sinkage, they also respond quickly to pressure, so that you won’t feel trapped in the bed. The center of these three layers is especially essential because of the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it is made up of perforated latex foam. Latex in general is good at releasing heat, so the addition of these tiny ventilations promotes more cooling.
Pocketed Coils – The bottom layer of polyurethane transitions to the firmer support section of the mattress, which is made up of a pocketed coil system. These individually wrapped springs provide the bed excellent rebound and assist to disperse motion throughout the structure. The coils also aid in moderating temperatures as the spaces between them permit continuous air flow.
Foundation Layer – A thin layer of high-density polyfoam lies at the bottom of the mattress, with the major use of cradling the pocketed coils and providing a sound foundation for the entire mattress.
After having a peek at the construction of the DreamCloud, let us talk about the firmness and texture. I started off by applying mild hand pressure into the bed and immediately felt the soft foam of the quilted cover and top layers. My hands flowed into the material and I could feel some instantaneous pressure relief. Pushing in further, I began to interact with all the pocketed coils below and experienced a nice lift from these springs.
At this point I’d like to let you know that individuals of different body shapes and types will sense firmness differently. Rather than giving only my view on the overall firmness level of this mattress, I invited three other individuals to give their opinion as well. This will give you a much better sense of the firmness range you can expect from the mattress.
As you can see in the chart above, the testers were in agreement about the firmness of the DreamCloud, giving it a mean rating of 7.75. Compare this to the industry standard of 6.5 for medium firmness and it is apparent that this bed is really firm.
I personally gave the mattress a 7.5 and concur with the other testers that it’s definitely a solid mattress. While you’ll feel some slight sinking because of the plush foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils at the core will lift you from this mattress and make you feel as though you’re sleeping on top of the mattress.
As opposed to simply describing the feel of this mattress for you, I wanted to provide a visual representation of where someone may feel pressure points form while lying on the mattress. To do so, I put a pressure map on top of the bed and lied on my backside, and stomach. You can see the results on the picture below where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back – When on my back, my weight was evenly distributed across the mattress, therefore I didn’t feel like I was sinking into the bed at all. The quilted cover gave quality relief at my lumbar area and the pocketed coils helped to lift me from the mattress and keep my spine in alignment.
Side – As you can see in the graph above, once I rolled onto my side, I began to feel pressure forming in my shoulders and hips. However, I still felt supported while the top foam layers relieved what distress I felt in this position.
Stomach – Shifting over to my belly, I believed that the DreamCloud did a great job of lifting my hips up and from the bed, which can be key for stomach sleepers. I must mention that I was able to shift across these positions with relative ease.
If you plan on sharing your bed with a partner, you will want to find out what it’ll feel like if the other person crawls out of bed in the morning or tosses around during the nighttime. This next test is intended to demonstrate the intensity of movement that’s detectable from 1 side of the mattress from another. Dream Cloud Warranty
To illustrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 pound steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and measured the disturbance it caused: the larger the lines, the larger the disturbance.
The DreamCloud shows a small amount of disturbance for the four inch drop, which simulates someone rolling around and adjusting their position on the other side of the mattress. While the 8 and 12 inch drops reveal slightly larger spikes, I’d still regard the mattress to be pretty good at isolating movement, thanks to the individually wrapped coils. This means you’re unlikely to be overly disturbed by your bed partner’s midnight shimmies, making this an awesome option for couples.
When buying a new mattress, the majority of people want to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking”into” the mattress or laying “on top” of it. To visualize this sinkage, I placed four balls of varying sizes and densities (a 6 pound medicine ball, a 10 pound steel ball, a 50 lb medicine ball, along with a 100 pound medicine ball) on the mattress then measured how much they compressed the surface.
The variations in size, density and weight are meant to mimic different body parts and different sized sleepers. Dream Cloud Warranty
– 6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.
– 10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
– 50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
– 100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.
Even though you’re going to encounter some instant sinkage in the soft foam at the top, by the time you sink through these layers, you’ll hit the wrapped coils and experience amazing support. This combo will appeal to a vast assortment of sleepers, but will suit stomach and back sleepers the most.
If you’re going to share your bed with a partner and will need to utilize the whole surface area of the mattress, then it’s going to be crucial for you to consider the amount of edge support it will give you.
I’m especially interested to see whether the DreamCloud will suffer the same fate as other compacted bed-in-a-box mattresses which fail to fulfill the edge support of more conventional innerspring models.
Lying on my back, I felt as supported at the edge of the bed as I did in the center. Pressing closer to the side, I experienced a little compression due to the highest foam layers, but nothing too dramatic.
Changing to my side, I noticed compression in the foam layers, but it did not carry over to the wrapped coil system under. This system, together with the polyfoam edge support around the mattress, did a good job of supporting my body.
In this position, I wanted to simulate what it would feel like to be sitting on top of the bed in the morning when you’re tying your shoes and getting ready for the day. A lot of foam mattresses experience a lot of compression in this position, but the DreamCloud really held up fairly well.
