As a hybrid mattress, the DreamCloud fulfills a number of our standards for what a quality bed must have. With eight exceptional layers of support and comfort, the DreamCloud utilizes all the right materials in its construction. Dream Cloud vs Puffy
From the tufted cashmere cover that provides good airflow, to the gel memory foam at the uppermost comfort layer, the DreamCloud is designed to promote a cooler night’s sleep. Below that are a mix of memory foam and latex layers, meaning this bed contains better quality relaxation materials than most other hybrid beds.

Even though it uses multiple memory foam layers, there’s no hug or significant shaping to the mattress. If you’re looking to sink into a mattress, then proceed from the DreamCloud.

A pocketed coil support center keeps you aligned all night long, particularly for all you back sleepers out there.

Construction Dream Cloud vs Puffy

The DreamCloud has an astoundingly tall profile for a mattress at a whopping 15 inches. The eight-layer structure is broken down into foam and wrapped coil components, which work in tandem to provide the sleeper with a strong innerspring lift and plenty of comfy pressure relief.

Given all the different materials at play , I’m stoked to get into these layers to see how well they interact together. Dream Cloud vs Puffy

construction

Cover – The cover is made up of a cashmere and polyester mix for a luxuriously soft texture up top. It’s also quilted with memory foam, which provides the sleeper with immediate pressure relief.

Foam Layers – Under the cover, you’ll find three thin layers of polyurethane. While these segments are soft to the touch and supply some satisfying sinkage, they also react quickly to pressure, so you won’t feel stuck in the mattress. The center of the three layers is particularly important because of the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it’s comprised of perforated latex foam. Latex in general is good at releasing heat, so the addition of these small ventilations encourages even more cooling.

Pocketed Coils – The bottom layer of polyurethane transitions into the firmer support section of the mattress, which is made up of a pocketed coil system. These individually wrapped springs give the bed excellent rebound and assist to disperse motion throughout the mattress. The coils also aid in regulating temperature as the spaces between them allow for steady air flow.

Foundation Layer – A thin layer of high-density polyfoam is found in the bottom of the mattress, with the major use of cradling the pocketed coils and providing a sound foundation for the whole mattress.

Firmness

After having a look at the construction of the DreamCloud, let us talk about the firmness and texture. I started off by putting mild hand pressure into the bed and instantly felt the soft foam of the quilted cover and first layers. My hand flowed into the material and I could sense some instantaneous pressure relief. Pushing in further, I began to interact with the pocketed coils beneath and experienced a pleasant lift from these springs.

At this point I want to let you know that individuals of different body types and shapes will feel firmness differently. Rather than giving just my opinion on the general firmness level of this mattress, I enlisted three additional people to give their view as well. This will give you a much better feeling of the firmness range you can expect from the mattress.

firmness test

As you can see in the graph above, the testers were in agreement about the stability of this mattress, giving it an average rating of 7.75. Compare this to the industry norm of 6.5 for moderate firmness and it is apparent that this bed is pretty firm.

Personally, I gave the mattress a 7.5 and agree with the rest of the testers that it is definitely a good mattress. While you’ll feel some slight sinking from the lavish foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils at the core will lift you out of this mattress and make you feel like you’re sleeping on top of the mattress.

Pressure Map

Rather than just explaining the feel of this mattress to you, I chose to provide a visual representation of where someone may feel pressure points shape while lying on the mattress. To do so, I placed a pressure map above the bed and lied on my back, side, and tummy. You can find the results on the picture below where pressure is denoted from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).

pressure map

Back – Once on my backside, my weight was evenly dispersed throughout the mattress, so I didn’t feel as though I was sinking into the mattress in any way. The quilted cover gave quality relief at my lumbar region and the pocketed coils helped to lift me out of the mattress and keep my back in alignment.

Side – As you can see in the graph above, after I rolled onto my side, I began to feel pressure forming in my hips and shoulders. But, I still felt supported while the top foam layers alleviated what discomfort I felt in this position.

Stomach – Switching over to my belly, I believed that the DreamCloud did a great job of lifting my hips upward and from the mattress, which can be key for stomach sleepers. I must mention that I managed to transition across these positions with comparative ease.

Motion Transfer

If you plan on sharing your bed with a partner, you will want to know what it’ll feel like if another individual crawls out of bed in the morning or tosses around at nighttime. This next test is intended to demonstrate the intensity of movement that’s detectable from 1 side of the mattress from another. Dream Cloud vs Puffy

To illustrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 pound steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and then quantified the disturbance it caused: the bigger the lines, the larger the disturbance.

motion transfer test

The DreamCloud shows a little bit of disturbance for the 4 inch drop, which simulates someone rolling around and adjusting their position on the other side of the bed. While the 8 and 12 inch drops show slightly larger spikes, I’d still consider the mattress to be quite good at isolating movement, as a result of the individually wrapped coils. This means you’re not likely to be too disturbed by your mattress partner’s midnight shimmies, which makes this a great solution for couples.

Sinkage Test

When buying a new bed, most men and women wish to know whether they will feel like they’re sinking”into” the mattress or lying “on top” of it. To picture this sinkage, I placed 4 balls of varying sizes and densities (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 pound steel ball, a 50 pound medicine ball, and a 100 lb medicine ball) on the mattress then measured how much they compacted the top.

The variations in size, density and weight are supposed to simulate distinct body parts and different sized sleepers. Dream Cloud vs Puffy

sinkage test

6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.

10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.

50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.

100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.

While you’re going to encounter some immediate sinkage from the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through these layers, you’ll find the wrapped coils and feel amazing support. This combo will interest a wide range of sleepers, but will suit stomach and back sleepers the most.

Edge Support

If you are going to share your mattress with a spouse and need to utilize the whole surface area of the mattress, then it’s going to be crucial that you consider the amount of edge support it’ll give you.

I am especially interested to see whether the DreamCloud will suffer the exact same fate as other compacted bed-in-a-box mattresses which fail to live up to the edge support of more conventional innerspring models.

Lying on my back, I felt just as supported in the edge of the mattress as I did at the middle. Going closer to the side, I experienced a bit of compression because of the top foam layers, but nothing too dramatic.

Changing to my side, I once again noticed compression in the foam layers, but it didn’t carry over to the coil system beneath. This system, together with the polyfoam edge support around the mattress, did a good job of supporting my body.

In this position, I wanted to simulate what it’d feel like to be sitting on the bed in the morning when you’re tying your shoes and getting ready for work. A lot of foam mattresses experience a lot of compression in this position, but the DreamCloud really held up fairly well.
