Because it’s a hybrid mattress, the DreamCloud meets many of our criteria for what a excellent bed must have. With eight exceptional layers of comfort and support, the DreamCloud utilizes all of the proper materials in its construction. Dream Cloud vs Avocado
From the tufted cashmere cover that gives great airflow, to the gel memory foam at the uppermost comfort layer, the DreamCloud was made to promote a cooler night’s sleep. Below that are a mix of memory foam and latex layers, meaning this bed includes better quality relaxation materials than most other hybrid beds.
Even though it uses multiple memory foam layers, there is not any hug or significant shaping to the mattress. If you’re looking to sink into a mattress, then proceed from the DreamCloud.
A pocketed coil support core keeps you aligned all night long, particularly so for all you back sleepers on the market.

Construction Dream Cloud vs Avocado
The DreamCloud has a tall profile for a mattress at a whopping 15 inches. The eight-layer construction is broken down to foam and wrapped coil components, which operate in tandem to provide the sleeper with a strong innerspring lift and lots of comfortable pressure relief.
Given all the distinct materials at play here, I am stoked to get into these layers to see how well they interact together. Dream Cloud vs Avocado
Cover – The cover is composed of a cashmere and polyester mix for a luxuriously soft texture up top. It’s also built with memory foam, which provides the sleeper with immediate pressure relief.
Foam Layers – Under the cover, you’ll find three thin layers of polyurethane. While these segments are soft to the touch and provide some satisfying sinkage, they also respond quickly to pressure, so that you won’t feel trapped in the mattress. The center of the three layers is particularly important for the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it is comprised of perforated latex foam. Latex generally is great at dissipating heat, so the addition of those tiny ventilations promotes more cooling.
Pocketed Coils – The bottom layer of foam transitions to the firmer support segment of the mattress, which is composed of a pocketed coil system. These individually wrapped springs give the bed excellent bounce and help disperse motion throughout the mattress. The coils also assist in regulating temperatures as the distances between them permit continuous air flow.
Foundation Layer – A thin layer of high-density polyfoam is found in the base of the mattress, with the major function of cradling the pocketed coils and offering a sound foundation for the entire mattress.
After having a look at the construction of the DreamCloud, let’s chat about the firmness and feel. I started off by putting mild hand pressure to the bed and immediately felt the soft foam of the quilted cover and first layers. My hands flowed into the material and I could feel some instant pressure relief. Pushing in farther, I began to interact with all the pocketed coils below and experienced a nice lift from these springs.
Now I’d like to let you know that people of different body shapes and types will feel firmness differently. As opposed to giving only my view on the overall firmness level of this mattress, I invited three additional individuals to present their opinion as well. This will give you a better feeling of the firmness range you can see from the bed.
As you can see in the graph above, the testers were in agreement about the stability of this DreamCloud, giving it an average rating of 7.75. Compare this to the industry standard of 6.5 for moderate firmness and it is apparent that this bed is pretty firm.
Personally, I gave the bed a 7.5 and agree with the rest of the testers that it is definitely a solid mattress. At the same time you’ll feel some slight sinking from the plush foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils at the core will lift you out of the mattress and make you feel as though you’re sleeping on top of the mattress.
Rather than just explaining the feel of the mattress to you, I chose to provide a visual representation of where somebody may feel pressure points form while lying on the mattress. To do this, I put a pressure map on top of the bed and lied on my back, side, and stomach. You can see the results on the image below where pressure is denoted from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back – When on my backside, my weight was equally distributed across the mattress, so I did not feel as though I was sinking into the bed in any way. The quilted cover gave quality relief at my lumbar area and the pocketed coils helped to lift me out of the mattress and keep my back in alignment.
Side – As you can see in the graph above, once I rolled onto my side, I started to feel pressure forming in my hips and shoulders. However, I felt supported while the top foam layers relieved what distress I felt in this position.
Stomach – Shifting over to my belly, I believed that the DreamCloud did a great job of lifting my hips up and from the mattress, which is key for stomach sleepers. I must mention that I managed to shift across these positions with relative ease.
If you plan on sharing your bed with a partner, you will want to find out what it will feel like if another individual crawls out of bed in the break of dawn or tosses around during the nighttime. This next test is intended to demonstrate the intensity of movement that is detectable from 1 side of the mattress to another. Dream Cloud vs Avocado
To illustrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 lb steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and then measured the disturbance it generated: the larger the lines, the larger the disturbance.
The DreamCloud shows a little bit of disturbance for the 4 inch drop, which simulates somebody tossing around and adjusting their position on the other side of the mattress. While the 8 and 12 inch drops show slightly bigger spikes, I’d still consider the mattress to be pretty good at isolating motion, as a result of its individually wrapped coils. This means that you’re unlikely to be overly disturbed by your mattress partner’s midnight shimmies, which makes this a great option for couples.
When purchasing a new bed, the majority of people want to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking”into” the bed or lying “on top” of it. To visualize this sinkage, I placed 4 balls of varying sizes and densities (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 lb steel ball, a 50 pound medicine ball, and a 100 pound medicine ball) on the mattress then quantified how much they compacted the top.
The variations in size, density and weight are supposed to mimic distinct body parts and different sized sleepers. Dream Cloud vs Avocado
– 6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.
– 10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
– 50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
– 100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.
Even though you’re likely to encounter some instant sinkage in the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through these layers, you are going to find the wrapped coils and feel fantastic support. This combo will appeal to a wide range of sleepers, but will suit stomach and back sleepers in particular.
If you’re going to share your mattress with a spouse and will need to use the whole surface area of the mattress, it’s likely to be crucial that you consider the amount of edge support it’ll provide.
I am particularly interested to see whether the DreamCloud will suffer the exact same fate as other compressed bed-in-a-box mattresses that fail to fulfill the edge support of more traditional innerspring versions.
Lying on my back, I felt just as supported at the edge of the bed as I did in the middle. Pressing closer to the side, I experienced a little compression due to the highest foam layers, but nothing too dramatic.
Shifting to my side, I noticed compression in the foam layers, but it didn’t carry over into the coil system under. This system, together with the polyfoam edge support around the mattress, did a great job of supporting my weight.
In this position, I wanted to simulate what it’d feel like to be sitting on top of the mattress in the morning when you’re lacing up your shoes and getting ready for work. A lot of foam mattresses undergo severe compression in this position, but the DreamCloud actually held up fairly well.
