As a hybrid mattress, the DreamCloud meets many of our criteria for what a excellent mattress must have. With 8 exceptional layers of support and comfort, the DreamCloud utilizes all of the proper materials in its construction. Dream Cloud Versus Saatva
From the tufted cashmere cover that gives great airflow, to the gel memory foam in the uppermost comfort layer, the DreamCloud is designed to promote a cooler night’s sleep. Resting below are a mixture of polyurethane foam and latex layers, meaning this mattress includes better quality relaxation materials than most other hybrid mattresses.

Despite the fact that it uses multiple memory foam layers, there is not any hug or significant shaping to the mattress. If you’re looking to sink into a mattress, move on from the DreamCloud.

A pocketed coil support center keeps you aligned all night long, particularly so for all you back sleepers out there.

Construction Dream Cloud Versus Saatva

The DreamCloud has an astoundingly tall profile for a mattress at a whopping 15 inches. The eight-layer construction is broken down to foam and wrapped coil components, which operate in tandem to supply the sleeper with a firm innerspring lift and plenty of comfortable pressure relief.

Given all the distinct materials at play , I am stoked to get into these layers to see how well they interact together. Dream Cloud Versus Saatva

construction-1

Cover – The cover is made up of a cashmere and polyester blend for a soft texture up top. Additionally, it is quilted with memory foam, which provides the sleeper with immediate pressure relief.

Foam Layers – Under the cover, you will discover three thin layers of polyurethane. While these sections are soft to the touch and supply some satisfying sinkage, they also react quickly to pressure, so that you won’t feel trapped in the bed. The center of the three layers is especially essential because of the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it is made up of perforated latex foam. Latex in general is great at dissipating heat, so the addition of those small ventilations encourages more cooling.

Pocketed Coils – The base layer of foam transitions into the firmer support segment of the mattress, which is made up of a pocketed coil system. These individually wrapped springs provide the mattress excellent bounce and help disperse motion throughout the mattress. The coils also aid in regulating temperature as the spaces between them allow for continuous air flow.

Foundation Layer – A thin layer of high-density polyfoam is found at the bottom of the mattress, with the main function of cradling the pocketed coils and offering a sound foundation for the whole mattress.

Firmness

After having a look at the construction of the DreamCloud, let us talk about the firmness and feel. I started off by applying mild hand pressure into the mattress and instantly felt the soft foam of the quilted cover and first layers. My hand sunk into the material and I could sense some instant pressure relief. Pushing in farther, I started to interact with all the pocketed coils below and experienced a pleasant lift from these springs.

At this point I’d like to note that individuals of different body shapes and types will feel firmness differently. As opposed to giving just my opinion on the overall firmness level of this mattress, I enlisted three other individuals to present their opinion too. This will give you a better feeling of the firmness range you can expect from the mattress.

firmness test-1

As you can see in the graph above, the testers were pretty much in agreement about the firmness of the DreamCloud, giving it an average score of 7.75. Compared to the market standard of 6.5 for medium firmness and it’s clear that this mattress is really firm.

Personally, I gave the mattress a 7.5 and agree with the other testers that it’s definitely a solid mattress. At the same time you’ll feel some slight sinking from the plush foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils at the center will lift you from the bed and make you feel as though you’re sleeping on top of the mattress.

Pressure Map

As opposed to simply describing the feel of the DreamCloud to you, I wanted to provide a visual representation of where somebody may feel pressure points form while lying on the mattress. To do so, I placed a pressure map on top of the mattress and lied on my back, side, and stomach. You can find the outcomes on the image below where pressure is denoted from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).

pressure map-1

Back – Once on my back, my weight was evenly dispersed throughout the mattress, so I did not feel as though I was sinking into the bed at all. The quilted cover provided quality relief at my lumbar region and the pocketed coils helped lift me from the mattress and keep my spine in alignment.

Side – As you can see in the chart above, after I rolled onto my side, I began to feel pressure forming in my hips and shoulders. However, I felt supported while the top foam layers relieved what distress I felt in this position.

Stomach – Switching over to my stomach, I thought the DreamCloud did a great job of lifting my hips up and out of the bed, which can be crucial for stomach sleepers. I should mention that I was able to transition across these positions with comparative ease.

Motion Transfer

If you intend on sharing your bed with a spouse, you’ll want to know what it will feel like when another individual crawls out of bed in the morning or tosses around at night. This next test is meant to demonstrate the high level of motion that’s detectable from one side of the mattress to the other. Dream Cloud Versus Saatva

To illustrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 pound steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and measured the disturbance it caused: the larger the lines, the larger the disturbance.

The DreamCloud demonstrates a little bit of disturbance for the 4 inch drop, which simulates somebody rolling around and adjusting their position on the opposite side of the mattress. While the 8 and 12 inch drops reveal slightly larger spikes, I would still regard the mattress to be quite good at isolating motion, thanks to the individually wrapped coils. This means you’re unlikely to be overly disturbed by your bed partner’s midnight shimmies, making this a great option for couples.

Sinkage Test

While purchasing a new mattress, most men and women want to know whether they will feel like they’re sinking”into” the bed or laying “on top” of it. To picture this sinkage, I placed 4 balls of varying sizes and densities (a 6 pound medicine ball, a 10 lb steel ball, a 50 lb medicine ball, along with a 100 pound medicine ball) on the mattress then quantified how much they compressed the surface.

The variations in size, density and weight are meant to mimic distinct body parts and different sized sleepers. Dream Cloud Versus Saatva

6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.

10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.

50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.

100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.

Even though you’re going to encounter some instant sinkage in the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through these layers, you’ll hit the wrapped coils and feel fantastic support. This combo will interest a vast range of sleepers, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers in particular.

Edge Support

If you’re going to share your bed with a partner and will need to use the entire surface area of the mattress, it’s going to be crucial for you to consider the amount of edge support it’ll give you.

I’m particularly interested to determine if the DreamCloud will endure the exact same fate as other compacted bed-in-a-box mattresses which fail to live up to the edge support of more traditional innerspring models.

Lying on my back, I felt as supported in the edge of the bed as I did in the middle. Pressing closer to the side, I felt a bit of compression due to the highest foam layers, but nothing too dramatic.

Changing to my side, I once again noticed compression in the foam layers, but it did not carry over into the coil system beneath. This system, along with the polyfoam edge support around the mattress, did a good job of supporting my weight.

In this position, I wanted to simulate what it’d feel like to be sitting on top of the bed in the morning when you are tying your shoes and getting ready for work. A good deal of foam mattresses experience severe compression in this position, but the DreamCloud actually held up fairly well.
