As a hybrid mattress, the DreamCloud fulfills many of our standards for what a quality bed must have. With eight unique layers of support and comfort, the DreamCloud uses all of the right materials in its construction. Dream Cloud Versus Purple Mattress
From the tufted cashmere cover that gives good airflow, to the gel memory foam in the uppermost comfort layer, the DreamCloud was made to promote a cooler night’s sleep. Below that are a mix of polyurethane foam and latex layers, meaning this mattress contains better quality comfort materials than most other hybrid mattresses.
Even though it utilizes multiple memory foam layers, there is no hug or significant contouring to the mattress. If you’re searching to sink into a mattress, then proceed from the DreamCloud.
A pocketed coil support core keeps you aligned all night long, particularly so for all you back sleepers out there.

Construction Dream Cloud Versus Purple Mattress
The DreamCloud features an astoundingly tall profile for a mattress at a humongous 15 inches. The eight-layer construction is broken down into foam and wrapped coil parts, which work in tandem to supply the sleeper with a strong innerspring lift and lots of comfortable pressure relief.
Given all the distinct materials at play here, I’m stoked to dive into these layers to see how well they interact together. Dream Cloud Versus Purple Mattress
Cover – The cover is composed of a cashmere and polyester mix for a soft feel up top. Additionally, it is quilted with memory foam, which provides the sleeper with instant pressure relief.
Foam Layers – Under the cover, you’ll find three thin layers of polyurethane. While these sections are soft to the touch and supply some pleasing sinkage, they also respond quickly to pressure, so you won’t feel trapped in the bed. The center of these three layers is especially important for the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it’s made up of perforated latex foam. Latex generally is good at releasing heat, so the inclusion of those tiny ventilations promotes more cooling.
Pocketed Coils – The bottom layer of polyurethane transitions into the firmer support section of the mattress, which is composed of a pocketed coil system. These individually wrapped springs provide the mattress excellent bounce and help disperse motion throughout the mattress. The coils also aid in moderating temperature as the spaces between them allow for continuous air flow.
Foundation Layer – A thin layer of high-density polyfoam lies at the bottom of the mattress, with the main function of cradling the pocketed coils and offering a solid foundation for the entire mattress.
After having a look at the construction of the DreamCloud, let’s chat about the firmness and feel. I started off by applying light hand pressure into the bed and immediately felt the soft foam of the quilted cover and top layers. My hand sunk into the material and I could sense some instantaneous pressure relief. Pushing in farther, I started to interact with all the pocketed coils beneath and experienced a nice lift from the springs.
At this point I’d like to note that individuals of different body shapes and types will sense firmness differently. Rather than giving only my view on the general firmness level of the mattress, I enlisted three other individuals to present their opinion too. This will provide you with a much better feeling of the firmness range you can see from the mattress.
As you can find in the chart above, the testers were pretty much in agreement about the stability of the DreamCloud, giving it a mean rating of 7.75. Compare this to the industry norm of 6.5 for medium firmness and it is clear that this mattress is pretty firm.
Personally, I gave the bed a 7.5 and concur with the other testers that it is definitely a solid bed. At the same time you’ll feel some slight sinking from the lavish foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils at the core will lift you out of the mattress and make you feel like you’re sleeping on top of this mattress.
Rather than just explaining the feel of this DreamCloud to you, I wanted to provide a visual representation of where someone may feel pressure points shape while lying on the mattress. To do this, I put a pressure map on top of the mattress and lied on my back, side, and stomach. You can see the outcomes on the picture below where pressure is denoted from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back – Once on my back, my weight was evenly distributed throughout the mattress, therefore I did not feel as though I was sinking into the mattress in any way. The quilted cover gave quality relief at my lumbar area and also the pocketed coils helped lift me out of the bed and keep my back in alignment.
Side – As you can see in the graph above, once I rolled onto my side, I began to feel pressure forming at my hips and shoulders. However, I still felt supported while the top foam layers relieved what discomfort I felt in this position.
Stomach – Switching over to my belly, I believed that the DreamCloud did a great job of lifting my hips upward and from the mattress, which can be crucial for stomach sleepers. I must mention that I was able to transition across these positions with comparative ease.
If you intend on sharing your mattress with a spouse, you’ll want to know what it will feel like when the other person crawls out of bed in the morning or tosses around at night. This next test is meant to demonstrate the high level of movement that is detectable from one side of the mattress from another. Dream Cloud Versus Purple Mattress
To show you this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 pound steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and then measured the disturbance it caused: the larger the lines, the larger the disturbance.
The DreamCloud shows a little bit of disturbance for the 4 inch drop, which simulates somebody rolling around and adjusting their position on the other side of the bed. While the 8 and 12 inch drops show slightly larger spikes, I would still regard the mattress to be pretty good at isolating motion, as a result of the individually wrapped coils. This means you’re unlikely to be overly disturbed by your bed partner’s midnight shimmies, which makes this a great solution for couples.
When purchasing a new bed, the majority of men and women want to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking”into” the bed or laying “on top” of it. To visualize this sinkage, I placed four balls of different sizes and densities (a 6 pound medicine ball, a 10 pound steel ball, a 50 lb medicine ball, along with a 100 lb medicine ball) on the mattress and quantified how much they compacted the top.
The variations in size, weight and density are supposed to simulate different body parts and different sized sleepers. Dream Cloud Versus Purple Mattress
– 6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.
– 10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
– 50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
– 100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.
Even though you’re likely to encounter some immediate sinkage from the soft foam at the top, by the time you sink through these layers, you’ll find the wrapped coils and feel fantastic support. This combo will interest a wide range of sleepers, but will satisfy stomach and back sleepers in particular.
If you’re going to share your bed with a partner and will need to use the whole surface area of the mattress, it’s going to be crucial for you to think about the amount of edge support it’ll give you.
I am especially interested to see whether the DreamCloud will suffer the same fate as other compacted bed-in-a-box mattresses which fail to fulfill the edge support of more traditional innerspring models.
Lying on my back, I felt just as supported at the edge of the bed as I did at the center. Going closer to the side, I felt a little compression due to the top foam layers, but nothing overly dramatic.
Changing to my side, I noticed compression in the foam layers, but it didn’t carry over into the wrapped coil system beneath. This system, along with the polyfoam edge support around the mattress, did a great job of supporting my weight.
In this position, I wanted to simulate what it’d feel like to be sitting on top of the bed in the morning when you’re tying your shoes and getting ready for work. A lot of foam mattresses undergo a lot of compression in this position, but the DreamCloud really held up fairly good.
