Because it’s a hybrid mattress, the DreamCloud fulfills a number of our standards for what a excellent bed should have. With 8 exceptional layers of comfort and support, the DreamCloud uses all of the right materials in its construction. Dream Cloud Versus Puffy Lux
From the tufted cashmere cover that gives good airflow, to the gel memory foam in the uppermost comfort layer, the DreamCloud was made to deliver a cooler night’s sleep. Below that are a mixture of polyurethane foam and latex layers, meaning this bed includes better quality relaxation materials than most other hybrid mattresses.

Even though it uses multiple memory foam layers, there is not any hug or significant contouring to the mattress. If you’re searching to sink into a mattress, move on from the DreamCloud.

A pocketed coil support core keeps you aligned all night long, especially so for all you back sleepers on the market.

Construction Dream Cloud Versus Puffy Lux

The DreamCloud has a tall profile for a mattress at a whopping 15 inches. The eight-layer structure is broken down to foam and wrapped coil components, which work in tandem to supply the sleeper with a strong innerspring lift and plenty of comfortable pressure relief.

Given all the distinct materials at play here, I’m stoked to dive into these layers to see how well they interact with one another. Dream Cloud Versus Puffy Lux

construction-1

Cover – The cover is composed of a cashmere and polyester blend for a luxuriously soft texture up top. Additionally, it is quilted with memory foam, which supplies the sleeper with instant relaxation.

Foam Layers – Under the cover, you’ll find three thin layers of polyurethane. While these segments are soft to the touch and supply some satisfying sinkage, they also respond quickly to pressure, so you won’t feel trapped in the bed. The middle of these three layers is especially essential for the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it is made up of perforated latex foam. Latex in general is good at releasing heat, so the inclusion of these small ventilations encourages more cooling.

Pocketed Coils – The bottom layer of foam transitions to the firmer support segment of the mattress, which is composed of a pocketed coil system. These individually wrapped springs provide the mattress excellent bounce and help to disperse motion throughout the mattress. The coils also assist in moderating temperatures as the distances between them allow for steady air flow.

Foundation Layer – A thin layer of high-density polyfoam lies in the bottom of the mattress, with the major function of cradling the pocketed coils and offering a solid foundation for the entire mattress.

Firmness

After taking a peek at the construction of the DreamCloud, let’s chat about the firmness and texture. I started off by applying mild hand pressure to the mattress and instantly felt the soft foam of the quilted cover and first layers. My hand flowed into the material and I could sense some instant pressure relief. Pushing in farther, I began to interact with the pocketed coils beneath and experienced a pleasant lift from the springs.

Now I want to note that people of different body types and shapes will feel firmness differently. Rather than giving just my view on the overall firmness level of this DreamCloud, I enlisted three other individuals to present their opinion too. This will provide you with a better sense of the firmness range you can see from the bed.

firmness test-1

As you can see in the graph above, the testers were in agreement about the stability of this DreamCloud, giving it a mean score of 7.75. Compared to the market standard of 6.5 for medium firmness and it’s clear that this bed is pretty firm.

Personally, I gave the bed a 7.5 and concur with the other testers that it is definitely a good bed. At the same time you’ll feel some slight sinking because of the plush foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils at the core will lift you from this bed and make you feel as though you’re sleeping on top of this mattress.

Pressure Map

As opposed to simply describing the feel of this DreamCloud to you, I chose to give a visual representation of where somebody may feel pressure points shape while lying on the mattress. To do this, I put a pressure map above the mattress and lied on my backside, and tummy. You can find the outcomes on the picture below where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).

pressure map-1

Back – Once on my back, my weight was equally distributed throughout the mattress, therefore I didn’t feel as though I was sinking into the mattress in any way. The quilted cover provided quality relief at my lumbar region and also the pocketed coils helped to lift me out of the bed and keep my spine in alignment.

Side – As you can see in the graph above, once I rolled onto my side, I began to feel pressure forming at my hips and shoulders. However, I still felt supported and the top foam layers relieved what discomfort I felt in this position.

Stomach – Switching over to my belly, I thought that the DreamCloud did a fantastic job of lifting my hips upward and out of the mattress, which is crucial for stomach sleepers. I should mention that I managed to transition across these positions with comparative ease.

Motion Transfer

If you intend on sharing your bed with a spouse, you’ll want to know what it will feel like if another individual crawls out of bed in the break of dawn or tosses around during the nighttime. This next test is intended to demonstrate the intensity of motion that’s detectable from 1 side of the mattress from the other. Dream Cloud Versus Puffy Lux

To show you this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 pound steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and measured the disturbance it generated: the bigger the lines, the larger the disturbance.

The DreamCloud demonstrates a small amount of disturbance for the 4 inch drop, which simulates someone tossing around and adjusting their position on the other side of the mattress. While the 8 and 12 inch drops reveal slightly bigger spikes, I’d still regard the mattress to be pretty good at isolating movement, thanks to its individually wrapped coils. This means you’re unlikely to be overly disturbed by your bed partner’s midnight shimmies, making this an awesome solution for couples.

Sinkage Test

While purchasing a new mattress, most people want to know whether they will feel as though they’re sinking”into” the bed or laying “on top” of it. To picture this sinkage, I placed 4 balls of different sizes and densities (a 6 pound medicine ball, a 10 lb steel ball, a 50 lb medicine ball, along with a 100 pound medicine ball) on the mattress and quantified how much they compacted the top.

The variations in size, weight and density are meant to mimic different body parts and different sized sleepers. Dream Cloud Versus Puffy Lux

6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.

10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.

50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.

100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.

While you’re going to experience some immediate sinkage from the soft foam at the top, by the time you sink through those layers, you are going to hit the wrapped coils and experience amazing support. This combo will interest a vast range of sleepers, but will suit back and stomach sleepers in particular.

Edge Support

If you are going to share your mattress with a partner and need to use the entire surface area of the mattress, it’s likely to be crucial that you consider the amount of edge support it’ll give you.

I am especially interested to see whether the DreamCloud will suffer the exact same fate as other compressed bed-in-a-box mattresses which fail to fulfill the edge support of more traditional innerspring versions.

Lying on my back, I felt just as supported at the edge of the bed as I did at the middle. Pressing closer to the side, I felt a bit of compression because of the highest foam layers, but nothing too dramatic.

Shifting to my side, I noticed compression in the foam layers, but it did not carry over into the coil system under. This system, together with the polyfoam edge support round the mattress, did a great job of supporting my weight.

In this position, I wished to simulate what it’d feel like to be sitting on the bed in the morning when you’re tying your shoes and getting ready for the day. A lot of foam mattresses undergo severe compression in this position, but the DreamCloud really held up fairly well.
