Because it’s a hybrid mattress, the DreamCloud fulfills a number of our criteria for what a quality bed should provide. With eight unique layers of comfort and support, the DreamCloud utilizes all the right materials in its construction. Dream Cloud Versus Nectar
From the tufted cashmere cover that provides good airflow, to the gel memory foam in the uppermost comfort layer, the DreamCloud is designed to promote a cooler night’s sleep. Resting below are a mix of memory foam and latex layers, meaning this bed contains better quality comfort materials than most other hybrid mattresses.
Even though it utilizes multiple memory foam layers, there’s no hug or significant contouring to the bed. If you are looking to sink into a mattress, then move on from the DreamCloud.

Construction Dream Cloud Versus Nectar
The DreamCloud has an astoundingly tall profile for a mattress at a humongous 15 inches. The eight-layer construction is broken down to foam and wrapped coil parts, which work in tandem to provide the sleeper with a strong innerspring lift and lots of comfy pressure relief.
Given all of the different materials at play , I am stoked to get into these layers to understand how well they interact with one another. Dream Cloud Versus Nectar
Cover – The cover is composed of a cashmere and polyester mix for a soft texture up top. It’s also built with memory foam, which supplies the sleeper with instant relaxation.
Foam Layers – Under the cover, you will find three thin layers of foam. While these sections are soft to the touch and provide some satisfying sinkage, they also respond quickly to pressure, so that you won’t feel trapped in the mattress. The center of these three layers is particularly important for the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it’s comprised of perforated latex foam. Latex in general is good at dissipating heat, so the inclusion of those tiny ventilations encourages even more cooling.
Pocketed Coils – The bottom layer of polyurethane transitions into the firmer support segment of the mattress, which is made up of a pocketed coil system. These individually wrapped springs give the mattress excellent bounce and help disperse motion throughout the mattress. The coils also assist in moderating temperatures as the spaces between them allow for steady air flow.
Foundation Layer – A thin layer of high-density polyfoam is found at the bottom of the mattress, with the main function of cradling the pocketed coils and offering a solid foundation for the entire mattress.
After taking a peek at the construction of the DreamCloud, let’s chat about the firmness and feel. I started off by putting mild hand pressure into the mattress and instantly felt the soft foam of the quilted cover and first layers. My hand sunk into the material and I could feel some instantaneous pressure relief. Pushing in farther, I began to interact with all the pocketed coils beneath and experienced a pleasant lift from these springs.
Now I’d like to let you know that people of different body types and shapes will sense firmness differently. As opposed to giving only my view on the general firmness level of the mattress, I invited three other individuals to present their view too. This will provide you with a much better feeling of the firmness range you may expect from the mattress.
As you can find in the graph above, the testers were in agreement about the stability of the mattress, giving it a mean rating of 7.75. Compare this to the industry standard of 6.5 for moderate firmness and it’s clear that this mattress is really firm.
I personally gave the bed a 7.5 and concur with the other testers that it’s definitely a good bed. At the same time you’ll feel some small sinking from the plush foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils at the center will lift you out of this bed and make you feel as though you’re sleeping on top of the mattress.
As opposed to simply explaining the feel of the mattress to you, I chose to give a visual representation of where somebody may feel pressure points form while lying on it. To do this, I put a pressure map on top of the bed and lied on my back, side, and tummy. You can find the results on the picture below where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).
Back – Once on my back, my weight was evenly distributed across the mattress, so I didn’t feel like I was sinking into the bed in any way. The quilted cover provided quality relief at my lumbar region and the pocketed coils helped to lift me from the mattress and keep my back in alignment.
Side – As you can see in the graph above, once I rolled onto my side, I started to feel pressure forming at my hips and shoulders. However, I felt supported and the top foam layers relieved what discomfort I felt in this position.
Stomach – Shifting over to my stomach, I believed that the DreamCloud did a great job of lifting my hips up and from the bed, which is key for stomach sleepers. I should mention that I was able to shift across these positions with comparative ease.
If you plan on sharing your bed with a partner, you will want to know what it will feel like if another individual crawls out of bed in the morning or tosses around at nighttime. This next test is meant to demonstrate the high level of motion that’s detectable from 1 side of the mattress to the other. Dream Cloud Versus Nectar
To illustrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 lb steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and then measured the disturbance it generated: the larger the lines, the bigger the disturbance.
The DreamCloud shows a small amount of disturbance for the four inch drop, which simulates someone tossing around and adjusting their position on the other side of the mattress. While the 8 and 12 inch drops reveal slightly bigger spikes, I’d still consider the mattress to be pretty good at isolating movement, as a result of the individually wrapped coils. This means that you’re unlikely to be too disturbed by your mattress mate’s midnight shimmies, which makes this an awesome option for couples.
While buying a new bed, most people want to know whether they’ll feel like they’re sinking”into” the bed or lying “on top” of it. To visualize this sinkage, I put four balls of varying sizes and densities (a 6 pound medicine ball, a 10 pound steel ball, a 50 lb medicine ball, and a 100 lb medicine ball) on the mattress and measured how much they compressed the surface.
The variations in size, weight and density are supposed to mimic distinct body parts and different sized sleepers. Dream Cloud Versus Nectar
– 6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.
– 10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.
– 50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.
– 100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.
Even though you’re going to encounter some immediate sinkage from the soft foam at the top, by the time you sink through these layers, you are going to find the wrapped coils and experience amazing support. This combination will appeal to a wide range of sleepers, but will suit back and stomach sleepers in particular.
If you’re going to share your bed with a spouse and will need to utilize the whole surface area of the mattress, it is likely to be crucial for you to think about the amount of edge support it will provide.
I’m particularly interested to determine whether the DreamCloud will endure the exact same fate as other compressed bed-in-a-box mattresses that fail to live up to the edge support of more conventional innerspring versions.
Laying on my back, I felt as supported at the edge of the mattress as I did in the center. Pressing closer to the side, I experienced a little compression due to the top foam layers, but nothing overly dramatic.
Shifting to my side, I once again noticed compression in the foam layers, but it did not carry over into the coil system below. This system, together with the polyfoam edge support around the mattress, did a good job of supporting my weight.
In this position, I wished to simulate what it’d feel like to be sitting on top of the bed in the morning when you are lacing up your shoes and getting ready for work. A lot of foam mattresses undergo severe compression in this position, but the DreamCloud really held up fairly good.
