As a hybrid mattress, the DreamCloud fulfills many of our criteria for what a excellent bed should provide. With eight unique layers of comfort and support, the DreamCloud uses all of the proper materials in its construction. Dream Cloud Microplush Mattress Pad Reviews
From the tufted cashmere cover that provides good airflow, to the gel memory foam in the uppermost comfort layer, the DreamCloud was made to promote a cooler night’s sleep. Below that are a mixture of polyurethane foam and latex layers, meaning this bed includes better quality comfort materials than most other hybrid mattresses.

Despite the fact that it uses multiple memory foam layers, there’s no hug or significant contouring to the bed. If you’re looking to sink into a mattress, move on from the DreamCloud.

A pocketed coil support center keeps you aligned all night long, particularly so for all you back sleepers on the market.

Construction Dream Cloud Microplush Mattress Pad Reviews

The DreamCloud has a tall profile for a mattress at a whopping 15 inches. The eight-layer construction is broken down into foam and wrapped coil components, which operate in tandem to supply the sleeper with a strong innerspring lift and lots of comfortable pressure relief.

Given all of the distinct materials at play , I am stoked to get into these layers to see how well they interact together. Dream Cloud Microplush Mattress Pad Reviews

construction-1

Cover – The cover is composed of a cashmere and polyester blend for a soft texture up top. It’s also quilted with memory foam, which provides the sleeper with immediate relaxation.

Foam Layers – Below the cover, you will discover three thin layers of polyurethane. While these segments are soft to the touch and provide some satisfying sinkage, they also respond quickly to pressure, so that you won’t feel trapped in the mattress. The middle of the three layers is especially essential because of the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it’s comprised of perforated latex foam. Latex in general is great at releasing heat, so the addition of those small ventilations promotes even more cooling.

Pocketed Coils – The base layer of polyurethane transitions into the firmer support section of this mattress, which is made up of a pocketed coil system. These individually wrapped springs provide the mattress excellent bounce and help to disperse motion throughout the mattress. The coils also aid in moderating temperatures as the distances between them allow for continuous air flow.

Foundation Layer – A thin layer of high-density polyfoam is found in the base of the mattress, with the major function of cradling the pocketed coils and providing a solid foundation for the whole mattress.

Firmness

After taking a look at the construction of the DreamCloud, let’s chat about the firmness and texture. I started off by putting mild hand pressure to the mattress and instantly felt the soft foam of the quilted cover and first layers. My hand sunk into the material and I could feel some instantaneous pressure relief. Pushing in farther, I began to interact with all the pocketed coils below and experienced a pleasant lift from the springs.

At this point I want to let you know that people of different body shapes and types will feel firmness differently. As opposed to giving only my view on the overall firmness level of this mattress, I invited three additional individuals to give their opinion as well. This will provide you with a better feeling of the firmness range you can see from the bed.

firmness test-1

As you can see in the graph above, the testers were pretty much in agreement about the firmness of the DreamCloud, giving it a mean score of 7.75. Compare this to the market norm of 6.5 for medium firmness and it’s clear that this mattress is pretty firm.

I personally gave the bed a 7.5 and concur with the rest of the testers that it is definitely a solid bed. While you’ll feel some slight sinking because of the lavish foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils in the center will lift you out of this bed and make you feel like you’re sleeping on top of the mattress.

Pressure Map

Rather than simply explaining the feel of this mattress to you, I wanted to give a visual representation of where someone may feel pressure points form while lying on the mattress. To do so, I put a pressure map on top of the bed and lied on my back, side, and tummy. You can find the results on the picture below where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).

pressure map-1

Back – When on my backside, my weight was equally distributed throughout the mattress, so I did not feel as though I was sinking into the bed at all. The quilted cover provided quality relief at my lumbar area and the pocketed coils helped to lift me from the mattress and keep my spine in alignment.

Side – As you can see in the graph above, once I rolled onto my side, I began to feel pressure forming at my hips and shoulders. But, I felt supported while the top foam layers alleviated what distress I felt in this position.

Stomach – Shifting over to my stomach, I thought the DreamCloud did a fantastic job of lifting my hips up and from the bed, which is key for stomach sleepers. I should mention that I managed to transition across these positions with relative ease.

Motion Transfer

If you plan on sharing your mattress with a spouse, you will want to find out what it will feel like if another individual crawls out of bed in the morning or tosses around at night. This next test is intended to demonstrate the high level of motion that is detectable from one side of the mattress from another. Dream Cloud Microplush Mattress Pad Reviews

To show you this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 lb steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and measured the disturbance it caused: the larger the lines, the bigger the disturbance.

The DreamCloud shows a little bit of disturbance for the four inch drop, which simulates somebody rolling around and adjusting their position on the opposite side of the bed. While the 8 and 12 inch drops show slightly larger spikes, I would still consider the mattress to be pretty good at isolating movement, as a result of its individually wrapped coils. This indicates that you’re not likely to be overly disturbed by your mattress mate’s midnight shimmies, which makes this an awesome option for couples.

Sinkage Test

While buying a new mattress, most men and women want to know whether they will feel like they’re sinking”into” the mattress or lying “on top” of it. To picture this sinkage, I put four balls of different sizes and densities (a 6 pound medicine ball, a 10 pound steel ball, a 50 pound medicine ball, along with a 100 lb medicine ball) on the mattress then quantified how much they compacted the top.

The variations in size, weight and density are supposed to mimic different body parts and different sized sleepers. Dream Cloud Microplush Mattress Pad Reviews

6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.

10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.

50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.

100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.

While you’re likely to experience some instant sinkage from the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through these layers, you are going to hit the wrapped coils and experience fantastic support. This combo will interest a vast assortment of sleepers, but will satisfy back and stomach sleepers the most.

Edge Support

If you are going to share your mattress with a partner and will need to utilize the whole surface area of the mattress, then it’s going to be crucial for you to think about the amount of edge support it will give you.

I’m especially interested to see if the DreamCloud will suffer the exact same fate as other compacted bed-in-a-box mattresses which fail to fulfill the edge support of more conventional innerspring models.

Laying on my back, I felt as supported in the edge of the bed as I did in the middle. Going closer to the side, I felt a bit of compression due to the highest foam layers, but nothing too dramatic.

Changing to my side, I noticed compression in the foam layers, but it didn’t carry over to the coil system below. This system, along with the polyfoam edge support round the mattress, did a good job of supporting my weight.

In this position, I wished to simulate what it’d feel like to be sitting on top of the bed in the morning when you are lacing up your shoes and getting ready for the day. A good deal of foam mattresses undergo a lot of compression in this position, but the DreamCloud really held up fairly well.
