As a hybrid mattress, the DreamCloud meets a number of our standards for what a excellent bed should have. With 8 unique layers of comfort and support, the DreamCloud utilizes all of the proper materials in its construction. Dream Cloud Mattress Warranty
From the tufted cashmere cover that gives good airflow, to the gel memory foam at the uppermost comfort layer, the DreamCloud is designed to promote a cooler night’s sleep. Below that are a mix of polyurethane foam and latex layers, meaning this bed contains better quality comfort materials than most other hybrid beds.

Despite the fact that it utilizes multiple memory foam layers, there’s not any hug or significant shaping to the mattress. If you are searching to sink into a mattress, then proceed from the DreamCloud.

A pocketed coil support core keeps you aligned all night long, especially for all you back sleepers out there.

Construction Dream Cloud Mattress Warranty

The DreamCloud features an astoundingly tall profile for a mattress at a humongous 15 inches. The eight-layer construction is broken down to foam and wrapped coil components, which work in tandem to supply the sleeper with a strong innerspring lift and plenty of comfy pressure relief.

Given all the distinct materials at play here, I’m stoked to get into these layers to see how well they interact with one another. Dream Cloud Mattress Warranty

construction-1

Cover – The cover is made up of a cashmere and polyester mix for a soft feel up top. It’s also quilted with memory foam, which provides the sleeper with instant pressure relief.

Foam Layers – Under the cover, you will find three thin layers of polyurethane. While these segments are soft to the touch and provide some pleasing sinkage, they also respond quickly to pressure, so that you won’t feel stuck in the mattress. The center of the three layers is particularly important because of the temperature regulation of the DreamCloud as it is made up of perforated latex foam. Latex in general is good at releasing heat, so the inclusion of these small ventilations promotes more cooling.

Pocketed Coils – The base layer of polyurethane transitions into the firmer support section of this mattress, which is composed of a pocketed coil system. These individually wrapped springs give the mattress excellent bounce and help disperse motion throughout the structure. The coils also assist in moderating temperatures as the distances between them permit steady air flow.

Foundation Layer – A thin layer of high-density polyfoam lies in the base of the mattress, with the major function of cradling the pocketed coils and offering a solid foundation for the whole mattress.

Firmness

After taking a look at the construction of the DreamCloud, let’s chat about the firmness and texture. I started off by putting mild hand pressure to the mattress and immediately felt the soft foam of the quilted cover and first layers. My hands sunk into the material and I could feel some instant pressure relief. Pushing in further, I began to interact with the pocketed coils below and experienced a pleasant lift from the springs.

Now I want to let you know that people of different body types and shapes will feel firmness differently. As opposed to giving just my opinion on the general firmness level of this DreamCloud, I enlisted three additional individuals to present their opinion as well. This will give you a much better feeling of the firmness range you may expect from the mattress.

firmness test-1

As you can find in the chart above, the testers were pretty much in agreement about the firmness of the mattress, giving it a mean rating of 7.75. Compare this to the industry norm of 6.5 for moderate firmness and it’s apparent that this bed is pretty firm.

Personally, I gave the mattress a 7.5 and concur with the other testers that it’s definitely a solid mattress. While you’ll feel some slight sinking because of the plush foam top layers, the individually wrapped coils in the center will lift you out of this bed and make you feel like you’re sleeping on top of this mattress.

Pressure Map

Rather than just explaining the feel of this mattress to you, I chose to give a visual representation of where somebody may feel pressure points form while lying on the mattress. To do this, I placed a pressure map on top of the bed and lied on my back, side, and stomach. You can find the results on the image below where pressure is represented from blue (low pressure) to red (high pressure).

pressure map-1

Back – When on my back, my weight was equally dispersed across the mattress, so I didn’t feel as though I was sinking into the mattress in any way. The quilted cover provided quality relief in my lumbar area and also the pocketed coils helped to lift me out of the mattress and keep my back in alignment.

Side – As you can see in the chart above, after I rolled onto my side, I started to feel pressure forming at my shoulders and hips. However, I felt supported and the top foam layers alleviated what distress I felt in this position.

Stomach – Shifting over to my stomach, I believed that the DreamCloud did a fantastic job of lifting my hips upward and out of the bed, which is key for stomach sleepers. I must mention that I managed to transition across these positions with relative ease.

Motion Transfer

If you intend on sharing your bed with a spouse, you’ll want to know what it’ll feel like when another individual crawls out of bed in the break of dawn or tosses around at night. This next test is meant to demonstrate the intensity of movement that’s detectable from 1 side of the mattress from the other. Dream Cloud Mattress Warranty

To illustrate this motion transfer, I dropped a 10 lb steel ball from heights of 4 inches, 8 inches and 12 inches and then measured the disturbance it generated: the bigger the lines, the larger the disturbance.

The DreamCloud demonstrates a little bit of disturbance for the four inch drop, which simulates someone rolling around and adjusting their position on the opposite side of the bed. While the 8 and 12 inch drops reveal slightly bigger spikes, I’d still regard the mattress to be pretty good at isolating motion, thanks to the individually wrapped coils. This means you’re unlikely to be overly disturbed by your bed mate’s midnight shimmies, which makes this a great solution for couples.

Sinkage Test

When buying a new bed, the majority of people wish to know whether they will feel like they’re sinking”into” the bed or lying “on top” of it. To picture this sinkage, I put 4 balls of varying sizes and densities (a 6 lb medicine ball, a 10 pound steel ball, a 50 lb medicine ball, along with a 100 lb medicine ball) on the mattress then measured how much they compacted the top.

The variations in size, density and weight are meant to mimic different body parts and different sized sleepers. Dream Cloud Mattress Warranty

6 lb medicine ball: 1.5 inches of sinkage.

10 lb steel ball: 2 inches of sinkage.

50 lb medicine ball: 4.5 inches of sinkage.

100 lb medicine ball: 5.5 inches of sinkage.

Even though you’re likely to encounter some instant sinkage from the soft foam on top, by the time you sink through those layers, you’ll hit the wrapped coils and feel fantastic support. This combination will appeal to a vast range of sleepers, but will suit stomach and back sleepers in particular.

Edge Support

If you are going to share your mattress with a partner and will need to use the whole surface area of the mattress, then it is likely to be crucial that you consider the amount of edge support it’ll give you.

I am particularly interested to see whether the DreamCloud will suffer the same fate as other compressed bed-in-a-box mattresses which fail to live up to the edge support of more traditional innerspring models.

Lying on my back, I felt just as supported at the edge of the bed as I did at the center. Pressing closer to the side, I felt a little compression due to the highest foam layers, but nothing overly dramatic.

Shifting to my side, I once again noticed compression in the foam layers, but it did not carry over to the wrapped coil system under. This system, along with the polyfoam edge support round the mattress, did a great job of supporting my body.

In this position, I wanted to simulate what it would feel like to be sitting on top of the mattress in the morning when you’re lacing up your shoes and getting ready for work. A lot of foam mattresses undergo severe compression in this position, but the DreamCloud actually held up fairly well.
